Stayed here and Abai. To us, KRL had less atmosphere and generally didn't feel as nice and we much preferred the Abai lodge. It did job, and from what I understand is one of the better places in the area. Please don't read this as me staying don't visit the area, definitely go, and maybe stay here for a night, but stay two at Abai. But don't expect an amazing lodge- not a patch on the likes of borneo rainforest lodge (go here first, or you'll be disappointed). Accommodation is average, food is average, and service is average. Tours are good, guides friendly and nice.

I'm glad we stayed here for two nights rather than one - we had three river trips with our fantastic guide Terrey and saw the most amazing range of wildlife! The early morning breakfast on the river was one of those experiences we'll always remember, and the communal areas where dinner & drinks were were nicely done, and the food was tasty. Our lodge was just by the river, spacous with a sofa and double bed, and although you're literally in the middle of the rainforest, we didn't get any unwanted friends inside! Great stay and can't imagine how anything could be improved without losing the whole jungle feel to the place!

We were very pleasantly surprised at the level of comfort experienced here. All the staff were charming and friendly and made us feel very welcome. The rooms were lovely and the surroundings beautiful. The food was good, but the drink was ridiculously expensive - although after being caught on the river in a monsoon a bottle of red wine was essential regardless of price!!!! The river safaris were fantastic and having breakfast on a boat watching 5 orangutans is an experience I will never forget.

We spent 1 night here after the Abai lodge. Loved both places very much. It's clean, simple and comfortable. The wild life was amazing.
Would love to be able to go back to both places again.
Our boat man and the guide were excellent.

It's not really the lodge you want at this resort-- it's the kind staff and the river adventures that make this place so wonderful. The chalets are spare but comfy (you can upgrade to a room with air con if you wish) and while the baths are a bit dated they work just fine. Buffet meals allow you to mix with other guests and make new friends and there's something for everyone on the buffet. Bring spare cash for tips and drinks (sodas or beer/wine) as they are extra. MOST importantly, bring your camera and insect repellent! The river trips are amazing. During our visit, the river was at full flood (not the best time for seeing animals) however, we still spotted crocs, monitor lizards, all manner of monkeys-- even babies!, birds and the highlight- two wild orangutans! Amazing guides like Terry and Junior (and all the rest) can show you the best of the river...and don't forget your binoculars!

Room Tip: Upgrade to an air con room if you wish.

We were in this lodge two nights. We arrived on 9 januari untill the 11th. After visited Sepilok we went bij boat. We were lucky, we saw 3 orangutans in te wild on te way to the lodge. We've made 3 rivercruisses and saw lost of wildlife: monkey's, a krokodile, hornbills, lost of other birds etc etc. The lodge is basic but perfect, the shower hot, the food is very nice and the staf so friendly. I can recommedent this place to everyone!!
The way back to Sandakan was perfect we saw pygmy elephants on the riverbank what a present!!

We were booked into the Abai Lodge for two nights but had to be moved to the Riverside Lodge due to a 'pirate' issue further along the coast - which was disappointing as we preferred the Abai. due to better location and the wildlife being more accessible.
The reception/dining room area and food were better than Abai Lodge - yup alcohol is expensive all over Sabah but ...
Anyhow we enjoyed our tours on the river and wildlife spotting. It was really enjoyed our tea and biscuits on the river, it was great with the engine off and just soaking in the environment.
