I have recently just came back from Bandung and overall the trip was a pleasant and happy trip. Weather was good, cooling with occasional showers in the afternoon. What made my trip alittle bit disappointed was my trip to Mt Tangkuban Perahu.
I have read alot of reviews on Mt Tangkuban Perahu and I am looking forward to this place. I have rent a car through my hotel. The driver was good and when we were on our way to Mt Tangkuban Perahu, our driver reminded us not to buy the souveirs from there as it will be very expensive.
So when we reached there, our car was parked at Kawah Ratu. And a local guide walked to us and talked with our driver. And our driver told us to follow this local guide from this park. We took a lot of photos at Kawah Ratu. The place was really beautiful and big. There were many tourists there. THe local guide asked whether we want to made a trip to Kawah Domas, the only active and is open to public, so we agreed. And it needs a local guide to bring you to Kawah Domas. However i have read several articles online saying a local guide is not required. However because there was too many people talking with us, we agree to hire a local guide to Kawah Domas.
He brought us to the office to buy the tickets which is Rp$150,000 per pax and we have 2 pax. So total amount to be paid is $300,000 for 1hr which includes egg boiling, mud massage for the leg and hotspring. And he told us any additional of time taken, we need to pay for $150,000 per 30mins.
SO we started our walk downslope...the place is abit difficult to walk as its quite slippery and alot of tiny pebbles and stones. There was a total of 5 guides excluding the local guide us following us. On our way there, they seems to be friendly, chatted with us and helped us took alot of photos.
So when we reached Kawah Domas, it was already 1hr as we stopped several times for photo taking and the route was really not too easy to walk..it was a very tired jouney. When we reached to the Kawah Domas, we were told to buy an egg at Rp3000 for egg boiling...I thought that was included in the fees we paid earlier on...but well, we didn't say much as it was not very expensive. And we had the leg mud massage which was a nice experience. The place was nice but hot. The hotspring egg was really nice...i love it. The place is really nice and its really quiet as there isn't much tourists (maybe we were early). After that the tour guides started to sell us the sourveirs such as magnet, necklace, bracelet, keychains etc. Initially I thought since they are quite good, if the things are not very expensive, I do not mind buying from them. After they told me the price, i got a shocked. The 2pc magnet costs Rp$400,000. Its daylight robbery....and they started to ask us to buy things from them for a very long time which i guess it took us another 20mins. And we refused to buy from them.
Then during the journey back, the guides totally ignore us. When we reached the security counter, they said they can sell the magnet to me at Rp$90,000. BUt i was quite turned off by them, so i rejected and head off to my driver and car And we were "late" by an hr, so we need to pay another Rp$300,000.
Overall Mt Tangkuban Perahu was a nice place....but because of the actions by the local guides, it really spoilt your day to this place as you really can't enjoy the scenary as they were busy talking to you.
so next time pls go not hire a local guide
