“Great stay!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 19, 2013 via mobile

Probably the best hotel in Gozo! Beautiful, spacious rooms and everything is well taken care of. The staff here are very professional and helpful especially at the front desk :) Dinner was good and selection at breakfast didn't disappoint

What you would expect from a great hotel!

Hotel is located in a quite village surrounded by country side. Location ideal for long country walks, rambling and biking. Rooms are very specious very well furnished, staff really nice and helpful. Hotel has a Spa with a large indoor pool. The Spa also has a new Hamam, which is free for residents. Breakfast is also a nice treat.

Room Tip: For a little extra take a Deluxe room. IF you intend to go around Gozo rent a car.

My husband, two children (ages 6 and almost 4) and I spent four nights at the Kempinski Hotel San Lawrenz, and it was easily the very best hotel stay I've ever had. We were there over Christmas Eve and Christmas Day, and found it to be the perfect place for a relaxing holiday. Our family stayed in a lovely and spacious Junior Suite, with a beautiful view of the pool and landscaping. The bathroom was large and well-appointed, and housekeeping did a lovely job of maintaining our room during our stay. The bed was not particularly comfortable (very soft - no support), but that was our only complaint. The bathrobes and slippers for both adults AND children were a nice touch! Our children also received Christmas stockings full of candy on Christmas Eve, which was a lovely gesture by the management and very appreciated!

The buffet breakfast every morning was fantastic, with plenty of options from which to choose. I especially appreciated the variety of pastries, savory items, and different meats and cheeses - be sure to try the local Gozitano cheese! The Christmas buffet included hot items, such as roast turkey, duck legs, sirloin, and fish, which was a lovely addition to the norm for a special day.

We dined at the cafe the first two days we were there. The food was very good and our servers were very friendly (special thanks to Katrin for being so wonderful with our children!). Unfortunately, every time we ate there, there was a problem in the kitchen with our order, so we had very long waits for our food. Again, the staff were very gracious about it, and even comped us our dessert and coffee at one of the meals.

Our kids made frequent use of the kids club of their own choosing - in fact, they woke up every morning asking when they could go! The staff there were friendly and competent, and I felt comfortable leaving my children in their care. The club was open 1000-1300 and 1400-1800, and was included in the room cost.

While our kids were enjoying themselves at the Kids Club, my husband and I enjoyed ourselves at the pool and spa! I highly recommend the Top to Toe package, which included a salt scrub in the Hammam, a 30 minute back massage (which was AMAZING), a 30 minute factial with mask, and a generous take-home gift. At 100 euro, I felt the price-performance was very good, especially given the competence and professionalism of Christina, the spa technician. Highly recommend! The pool facilities were very nice, and I appreciated that they had family hours (0930-1500) as well as adult-only time. My children begged us to take them to the pool every day, and we were happy to oblige.

When our four-night stay came to an end, all four of us were sad to leave and planning our return visit! I can honestly say I've never stayed in a hotel as lovely and accommodating as the Kempinski, and the customer service was beyond compare. I hope we get the opportunity to come back and enjoy Gozo again!

Room Tip: Families will appreciate the spaciousness of the Junior Suite, and the ability to draw the curtains...

We are a family of five with 3 young kids. We were looking to spend some time relaxing and be pampered. I have to say that the hotel met exactly these needs. Free car park (just few meters away from the entrance), luxurious surroundings, big room, all amenities, excellent SPA and a relatively decent gym for a hotel (mostly cardio machines and free weights). Good service throughout (chambermaids, waiters, pool attendants, etc). The pool areas are beautiful right in the middle of the hotel's extensive central garden, giving the hotel a tropical atmosphere. The hotel is situated in the outskirts of a small village, thus in a quite area, detached from buildings and main roads. Breakfast was excellent, biggest and most complete ever had ... Omelets, pancakes, yogurts, usual English breakfast items, honey jams, ice cream, cakes, juices, etc, etc & etc :-) However, we opted to eat out of the hotel, being members of Gusto, we decided to make use of the card and at the same time diversify our culinary experience.

The only downside is that it has a restriction on the age of the kids to enter the SPA area. Frankly i do not know if this is something regulatory or not, however we haven't had such restrictions in any other hotel. This risked to compromise our stay. Thankfully its not strictly enforced and mostly left to the good judgment of the parents to take care of their kids.

The hotel is probably the best we've ever stayed at. The staff make you feel comfortable and relaxed. No fuss! Location is superb. Facilities are of a very high standard and a heated indoor pool in winter is very relaxing.

Room Tip: Unless space is really of essence, you do not need to look for the bigger rooms, they are all well s...

This was the third accomodation in which we dtayed during our Malta/Gozo holidays and by far the best, still there were a few improvement areas. Below is what we personally liked and disliked:
Positive:
- We LOVED the nursery. It is normally only as of 3 yrs, but because there were not many other kids, Antoinette, the nursery leader, still took our not even 2 yr. old son. We could optionally also stay with him, which was great (as the weather was not always the best to do something outside).
- The service was very friendly and helpful
- The SPA area was nice & relaxing
- The breakfast was very good

Negative:
- Our room would need a renovation, especially the bath room was really old and not too inviting
- We both didn't like the Ayurveda treatment at all, which was on top quite expensive (as we didn't have Ayurveda before, jsut 'normal' massages it;s hard to tell whether this is just the way it is or whether we indeed had bad luck)
- the pools weren't heated (not even the babypool) and clearly too cold for a child
- it was a bit far out, so you are quite dependant on a car
- there was no outside playing ground in the hotel gardens

My girlfriend and me stayed two nights at the Kempinski Hotel San Lawrenz in December 2012.

December is definitely off-season. It wasn't possible to make use of the extensive pool and park facilities due to the cold wind etc. Nonetheless, we enjoyed the indoor hotel facilities fully, without any crowds to jostle with. The spa was adequate, with a good-sized gym. A quite nice indoor pool was also available. We didn't try any actual treatments.

Breakfast is one of the most important parts of a hotel experience to me. The breakfast was magnificent! High quality food and a large variety to choose from. A joy to get up in the morning looking forward to a good meal.

The restaurant is high-priced, but worth it if you want to indulge is some high-class service and food.

The only draw-back was the cold wind, which blew in through the not-so-well-sealed window and door to the room. One of the nights it actually howled so much that I had to put a towel under the door to stop the draught. But there you go, Maltese winter for you. I do not think this would be a problem in the summer.
