My partner and I stayed for 2 weeks at the Pergola in June 2013. We booked a pool view room on half board basis. Overall we really enjoyed our stay and would gladly go back.
Reception: A nice cool open space, good to relax in. The staff are freindly and efficient and took care of our needs without any problems. A luggage store was provided so that we could wander around as we arrived before check-in time.
Room 053: Same level as reception, so easy to reach. View of the upper pool only, as advertised. The room had a hospitality tray and complimentary toiletries. The room was clean and simply furnished but roomy enough. The black out curtains, ceiling fan and air con helped for a good night's sleep. However the air con was not overly effective and could only be used on a low setting as it was noisey on other settings. The balcony area was large. The bathroom was OK but the shower hose leaked a lot. Overall, the room was comfortable and clean.
Restaurant: This was clean, cool and plenty large enough. The service was always excellent and there was a good range of drinks available to order. There was plenty of food. Breakfast included the usual full english, fruits, cereals, cold meats/cheeses, and porridge (which goes well with honey!) The little prepared pots of museli and yogurt were delicious.
Dinner was excellent for a buffet, with a terrific choice of salds prepared and presented to a high standard. There were always pasta, fish and soup dishes, and a good choice of well prepared meat dishes. Note for kids - no chips, which we didn't mind.
Facilities: We used the upper level pool area every day, which we enjoyed. It was generally peaceful with plenty of comfortable sunbeds. Unfortunately. although the area was maintained and facilities cleaned each day, the tiles and floor need a thorough clean and then need to to be cleaned each day after. We used the cave bar a few times, which was fine and fun. The indoor pool and jacuzi were not heated, but we liked using them anyway.
The hotel is built into the side a hill. Therefore it has a sort of terraced layout which is fun to get used to, and provides plenty of odd spaces in which chairs are provided to relax in. Reception provides a map and lift guide to help. Unfortunately there are few public areas from which to enjoy the lovely views - a perspex surround to the lower pool area would help. By the way, a walk following the road to the left out of reception leads to stunning views across the bay to Marfa, Comino and Gozo - this is especially good at sunset.
Location: Excellent - easy to reach the centre of town, lovely views, a good walk to the beach (regular buses run back up the hill). It's quiet, plenty of good restaurants, limited night life (which we were happy with). We used `Shoppers' supermarket for our provisions, a 10 minute walk. It's on the main road in the direction of St Paul's.
Overall the staff were very friendly and efficient and the hotel clearly takes a keen and genuine interest in guest feedback. We plan to go back next year.
Pricing seems to be honest - pay for the sea view if you want one, or pool view. The inland views co...

We are ever so grateful at receiving your very detailed review of the Pergola Club Hotel & Spa as indeed, as pointed out by your good self, we take a very genuine interest in guest feedback. We, in fact, strongly believe that without the evaluation of guest constructive criticism, we will not succeed in meeting our objective of constantly ameliorating our guest experience.
While we are very pleased that your overall experience was a very positive one, we are counting on hosting you again in 2014!
