“A let down.”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed December 16, 2013

After reading the reviews found on this site, we decided to book this hotel for a weekend break. We have booked a Standard Double Room with Village View. Disappointingly we were let down for the following reasons; the quilts provided were torn and stained, the two sets of pillows provided were either very hard or very soft, so much so that my wife got a neck-ache in the morning. The beds aren't comfortable either and both my wife and I woke up with some back pain. The tunnel joining the two parts of the hotel smelled of stagnant water. We also expected that a 4 start hotel should serve fresh fruit during breakfast and not from a can. Juice should also be fresh and not concentrate especially something basic as orange juice. Even though the hotel states they have parking, it was closed when we arrived (at 2PM and the person at the desk who told us so didn't even offer an apology for any inconvenience caused) and it opened the following morning but closed again shortly after. I managed to get my car in however going down is no easy task, it is a spiral ramp that seems like never ending and had to reverse a few times in order not to hit the wall. The parking has room for about about 25 cars only and some parking spots had water dripping on them from overhead piping.

The hotel is not all bad obviously; it is generally clean and the indoor pool was well heated. The gym is also very well equipped for the occasional workout. The outdoor pool has a nice garden next to it which would make it lovely in summer. Comparing this hotel to other 4 star hotels that we have been to, we had no choice but to give it an average rating.

We like quieter resorts, and Mellieha was perfect for us rather than the busier spots around Sliema. Our transfer driver (all-included in the great deal from Travelzoo) said it was one of the best hotels he dealt with, and we were not disappointed. We were upgraded to a room facing the best view down the valley to the sea and across to the church. We sat on our balcony, and thought how lucky we were in December in warm sunshine. The room was spacious clean and comfortable, and the bathroom fine (though the drainage was very slow, so you started with a shower and ended with an ankle bath!). We were on half-board, and the food was pretty good, though the standard varied a bit from one day to another. As with another reviewer, we found the endless canned Christmas songs at mealtimes (in the first week in December) a bit trying. The bus stop is just outside (with buses to Valetta or Sliema every 20 minutes) and the helpful Tourist Information is just across the road. The wonderful walking along the Marfa Ridge and around Selmun Palace is not too far away, and we really enjoyed our four-night break.

Room Tip: There are some internal rooms best avoided. We thought those on the side, looking straight towards...

Having toured most of Malta by car and bus, we came to the conclusion that Mellieha was one of the best places to stay on the island, and the Maritim Antonine Hotel was a perfect choice for us. Admittedly, we stayed out of peak season so didn't experience the late-night noise from the street below that many reviewers complained about. Our room on the 6th floor had great views towards the church and sea beyond. The lifts worked smoothly and efficiently. Breakfast consisted of a wide range of buffet items - ranging from yoghurt and cereals to a full cooked English breakfast. And the price we paid for all this was incredibly good value! Any grumbles? Not really - apart from the incessant Christmas tunes during breakfast! Overall, I would highly recommend this hotel during off-peak periods and would readily stay here again.

Room Tip: Out of season, a room overlooking the street is absolutely fine and the higher up the better (purely...

we arrived later that we thought on the Tuesday so when we got here they had finished serving food, To be honest we were not expecting anything.

We did have a massive disappointment when we got to our room as we had booked an interior room ( to be honest we werent given a choice by the holiday operator.) I am claustrophobic so could not stay there..

We paid 4 euros a day for a room with a view outside, We didnt care where to be honest but glad we did it as the room overlooked the beautiful church and overlooked the bay. The room themselves are roomy and comfortable with very comfy beds. I had read reviews about flooding the bathroom and if you aim the jet of water low down you dont flood the place. The tv only has 2 english speaking channels but the MBC arabic channel has most of its programs in english with arabic subtitiles.

The breakfast are either full english, or continental with cereals. Coffee is strong and not too bad. It all fills you up for the day.

Evening meal has a very good selection of food and if there is one complaint and that we could have done with some Ice cream!!!

The bars are great and a wide selection of good drinks however the sports bar over the road is the best value.

All in all its been a great week and we will be back to this great hotel..which will be my 8th time and my wifes 6th.

Room Tip: dont stay in the interior rooms as there is no natural light.

On our holiday to Malta we visited both islands, Goza being the first. But due to our potential late arrival and missing the ferry we needed a hotel for one night on Malta close to port. Wifey found this hotel online at a price that was was unbelievable. I though she was kidding when she said that included breakfast and complimentary use of the spa pool. It was cheaper than a cheap meal and could not understand how they could do it especially when we eventually found it. It was lovely with a grand entrance befitting its 4* status. The room was good and served its purpose. Breakfast was really good with a great range of food and beverages.

A really good start to a really good holiday

My husband and I visited this hotel this year. It was our first visit to Malta
From the moment we checked in we were treated with old fashioned curtesy by all of the staff throughout the hotel. Nowhere have I experienced such welcoming attention
The buffet breakfasts were relaxing and plentiful, lots of choice, the evening meal was a delight and the restaurant under the efficient supervison of both the day and evening staff.
Our room maid Rita could not have been more helpful, and obliging and we can't wait to return maybe this time in the Spring. I thoroughly recommend this hotel to anyone and Mellieha is a lovely quiet restful hill village with all of the delights of Malta no more than 1 hour away. 4km from the ferry to Gozo and sandy Ghadiri Bay a short walk or 1 km road trip from the hotel for seabathing. Well Done Mr Reiss for the management of this hotel and it leads us to consider staying at more Maritim Group hotels in the future.

Room Tip: Ask for a sea view room well in advance but all rooms are comfortable with everything you need at ha...
