“What to expect.......”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed July 21, 2013

We are a family of four adults and one six year old staying at this hotel. The position of the hotel is fantastic with peaceful views of the most beautiful seascape looking over Gozo and Comino. The staff are friendly and helpful. There are pedalos and kayaks available in the all inclusive deal. You can hire a jet ski or small power boat for a reasonable charge.
The service in the restaurants is poor.....a two course meal at the sol e mare restaurant can take anything up to three hours. The food there is average and as its a paying restaurant not included in the all inclusive deal, really rather boring! You can queue at 5.30 each evening to get an all inclusive table but you ll wait even longer for your food than the paying guests! The room service cleaning seems haphazard....we ve had to ask for towels at least four times so far!
But......it's the sun, pool and sea that make this a great family place to be! Just be prepared for everything to take a long time......don't expect to get a drink in under20 minutes! So plan ahead!!
I d come back as its a good value holiday and our six year old loves everything here!

Dear Sir/ Madam,

Thank you for your review. Your description of our beautiful and unique
location is very important and interesting to know for our readers. It
gives them the exact picture what to expect for a perfectly relaxed and
stressless holiday.
We offer 3 different types of restaurants to our All Inclusive guests. One of them is the a la carte restaurant Sol e Mar Bistro.
It requires a reservation for a table in the evening. It has an All-inclusive Menu and also some price reduced dishes.
Thanks for mentioning our staff, your kind praises will be forwarded
to the whole Team. To describe our All- Inclusive package as a good
value holiday is very much appreciated.

It will be our pleasure to welcome you back in the Riviera Resort & Spa.

Just back home from 2 weeks at this hotel which is listed as a 4 star facility. The location is quiet and quite remote in comparison to other areas of the island however this suited us as a family as we enjoy peace and tranquility. If you enjoy being by the pool, sea and boat trips etc..then this would suit. Ideally located for Comino and Gozo trips which I would recommend. The hotel itself is particularly nice around the public areas such as bars, pools, reception, sitting areas and dining rooms. However the bedrooms are average by comparison to other 4 star hotels I've stayed in. Our room smelled strongly of "dirty mop" when we arrived and the toilets smelled of urine due to dirty loo brushes stagnating at the side of the toilets. Bedrooms were also swept out into the main corridor though did not then appear to be vacuumed. Overflow within wash basins were also filthy and not long after we arrived we could see and hear housekeeping staff arguing about being fed up with complaints from guests which even if this was the case should not be voiced within earshot of them. Food was "adequate" although very repetitive and included watered down juices for breakfast. We were advised by staff to book the Sol e Mar bistro which was not included in our all inclusive holiday package as the food served there was "great". We went there one evening where I had the worst steak I have ever eaten - very chewy and unable to be cut with a steak knife without great difficulty. This restaurant was a disappointment. Many staff within the hotel appear over worked, stressed and mostly looked miserable. Not very welcoming. We were also not advised that we could use Hola Beach which is a lovely addition to the hotel where we spent most of our time. We found this out at the end of week one. Many other guests were exactly the same. You actually have access to pedal boats and sea kayaks as part of your all inclusive stay. You can have some cocktails within the hotel but not at Hola Beach where you have to pay for them which is a bit bizarre given that it is owned by the same hotel?
Animation staff were great as were other individuals such as Igor, Tsolt, Karen (bar staff) and Elias (Hola Beach). Blue Waves staff were also great - they rent out boats, boat trips etc and are based at Hola Beach. We enjoyed Malta as a destination and visited many interesting areas such as Valletta, Mdina, Lascaris war rooms, Comino, Gozo etc..we would definitely return to Malta but definitely not to the Riviera Hotel and Spa. We spoke to other guests who described the hotel as "the Ryanair equivalent of hotels". A lovely location however staff desperately need team building and more time spent with regard to promoting better customer service across all staff groups. This may lead to a happier workforce?

Room Tip: Inland rooms are quieter as much of the night time "buzz" is at the front of the hotel how...

Dear Sir/Madam,

I am happy to read ,that your family enjoyed the peace and tranquillity of the location and beautiful surroundings of our hotel. Thank you for mentioning the ideal position for boot trips to Comino or excursions to Gozo.
Hola Beach is our newly refurbished Beach Club. I regret not having met you during your stay, I could have given you this very important information earlier. It is a great edition to our hotel. To give the right information from the very beginning of your holiday ,is of great importance.
The bar at Hola Beach is open from 10am - 5pm and most drinks at Hola Beach are inclusive of your All Inclusive package.
Thanks for pointing our staff members and our Animation Team for their very good service. It is a great motivation to read the appreciation of their work.

Just returned from a week's stay at the Riviera Resort.Probably one of the best holidays we've experienced.Hotel was great, staff very friendly and helpful.Food was varied and well presented, couldn't fault it and made more enjoyable by eating outside.Location is convenient for day trips tp Gozo (local ferry) and Comino (ferry virtually outside the front door!) We'd visited Malta a few years ago but stayed near Valletta so thought we'd like to see a different part of the island and were not disappointed. We'll certainly be back!

Room Tip: We were lucky to have a sea view which was great.

Dear Sir/ Madam,

I would like to point out, that our whole Riviera Team is very pleased to read your excellent write up. Your kind remarks are very much appreciated. Our aim is to make our guests leave The Riviera Resort & Spa with every intention of coming back.
Our staff is always willing and happy to do their utmost to be as helpful and informative as required and needed.
Guests can enjoy their food outside on our beautiful Terraces, with great views of our neighbouring islands Gozo and Comino. This makes it a unique place to dine. Our hotel is ideally situated for trips to Comino and Gozo.
Whilst we are glad that your second stay in Malta was a great experience, we are hoping to welcome you back for your third visit.

A four star hotel that should be if anything a three star...the hotel was probably good many years ago but is now pretty much sufferiing from wear and tear....the rooms were basic. And certainly not of 4 star quality.....the cleaning was also basic.

The staff are pretty friendly but look severely overworked....at least they tried their best.....there are several restaurants at the Riviera but the food is pretty much the same each day and the quality is not even average...Malta is surrounded by the sea but there was very limited fish on the menu......a huge dissapointment. I once asked for an apple for my daughter and was looked at like I had two heads! They give you lunch boxes when you decide to go on a tour during the day....the water was good...only the water!

The animation was very good....an international team which clearly had to do their best in difficult circumstances. A special thanks has to be given to Fabio, Marco, Elisabetta, Sandra and Romana who daily provided excellent animation for adults and children......If you ever come across them again you will be most fortunate also because they being international spoke different languages including English, Italian, German.....the management staff at the hotel were not gifted with respect to languages.

The Riviera is situated in the north of Malta...close to other large hotels which were all full...the Riviera was half empty which I think says a lot. While close to Comino and Gozo, there is nothing close to the Riviera, even a pleasant evening's walk was not feasible.....not a great location.

As per the title, it was all an interesting experience.....cant recommend this place to anyone and I certainly will not come back here.

Dear Sir/ Madam,

I would like to thank you for taking the time to write this review.
Thank you for describing our staff as friendly. It is important for us, to give our guests the best possible service.
We offer our guests 3 different types of restaurants. The main restaurant Mirasol ( Buffet form), the a la carte Restaurant Sol e Mar Bistro, and our Melanzane Trattoria ( offering Pizza, Pasta, Paella and various types of salads).
Our Buffet at The Mirasol Restaurant consists of an array of antipasti, 1 type of soup, 2 types o Pasta, 2 types of meat, 1 type of fish and a selection of desserts.
The Sol e Mar Bistro has an All-inclusive Menu with appetizers, main courses and desserts and All-inclusive drinks.
It requires a reservation on the same day for the evening. The Trattoria is next to the diving centre, no reservation is required and guests can either order a pizza on the table or eat Paella, pasta and salads from the buffet.
Your suggestion to improve the variety of the lunch packet will be discussed in the next management meeting.
A lot of thanks for mentioning our fantastic Animation Team. They are always so full of energy and motivation, offering plenty of activities and shows. Every Monday they are organising a party at Hola Beach and every Thursday a Pool Show. These 2 activities are becoming very popular with our guests. I will forward your kind praises to the whole Team.
Hotel excursions can be very easily organised. Guests can book with their representative, with reception and also with our friendly Bavarian Sales representative from City Sightseeing. Because of the great bus connections, it is just as easy to plan a rip to whatever destination by yourself.

This was our first visit to Malta, and it lives up to its friendly reputation, we stayed at the Riviera beach and spa hotel where we had a room overlooking the pool and a sea view. Air condition worked all night so it was easy to sleep in the July Heat/
My thanks must go to the staff of the complex, and I think it is worth naming Karen in the lobby Bar and Millena in the pool bar who seem to be working 24 hrs. a day and are pleasant when ever you meet them. The unsung hero's are with out doubt the guys and girls that work in the restaurant they are always helpful and pleasant.
The hotel without doubt is value for money and I would certainly recommend to friends and family.
One word of caution before booking through Supreme travel rep make sure the trips you are booking are suitable for you, ask if the trips are suitable for people with walking difficulties etc. other than that they are not bad for value and certainly the GOZO trip is worth taking as you get a Air con bus and a guild who certainly knows her stuff. I had no trouble changing a trip that we found was unsuitable for us but it would have been a problem if we had not met people who had taken the trip the day before.

Room Tip: Upgrade to a pool and sea view well worth the money

The place is located in quiet area, amazing view and crystal water. Room was clean although looking tired. Nice drinks, on the beach just beer and wine. Staff very friendly.
Food was poor, very small choice and tasteless. We had nice pizza in Trattoria melanzane restaurant which belongs to hotel.
For the price of £399 which we paid I can say we are happy.
