“Good! But could be better!”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed March 5, 2014 via mobile

The hotel is situated in a very nice location, ideal for people who want a relaxing quiet holiday. When it comes to the room it is slightly smaller than i'm generally used to but nonetheless it provided what you needed and were clean. We were given a room over looking the garden and the stunning view of Mellieha bay but from what i've seen i think all rooms have the same general view so that is great. When it comes to the building itself it doesn't lack anything for a 4 star hotel.

When it comes to food both breakfast and dinner were good, big selection, all fresh and fast service.

There are only 2 negative things that I would like to point out which could easily be improved.

1. Attitude - from check in to check out, I noticed many members of the staff (not saying all) with a sort of i-don't-care attitude which put me off a bit. Its seemed like some of the staff (reception, room-service & waiting) were not glad to help. Its like they were feeling forced, not sure why. Sometimes the smallest things in life can make the biggest differences. A smile never hurt anyone guys and it can go a long way :). I also believe the staff should be trained well on how to answer the phone when a guest calls. Most times when i tried to call reception or room-service all I heard from the phone was "Hello" or "Yes?" and thats it........again as I said before small things but they still can make a difference.

2. Internet - upon check in I asked about internet and the receptionist told me internet is at a supplement. I chose to pay 15 euros for the internet and i was given a card with a username and a code. The thing that bothered me the most was that the internet was very slow. For those who might be into computers the speed was around 0.7 Mb/s which basically means that it took my phone 2 minutes just to load a simple news site like bbc.com, so you can imagine how long it took me just to try and watch a video on YouTube......Not to mention that the wifi signal was very poor in the room, I had to stay moving around in the room just to find a small signal which disconnected often. My point is if you are going to provide the service and make people pay for it at least I expect to have a decent connection. So I would recommend increasing the amount of routers around the hotel and invest in better speeds.

All in all I enjoyed my stay at this hotel and should I have the opportunity I would return for another peaceful stay and would definitely recommend it to others.

Regards,

William Fiorentino

We booked this as a cheap week away to get some winter sun and had a nice time but wouldn't return. The hotel itself is nice enough, if not a little dated, and our room was always well cleaned. The views from the balcony were lovely (1st floor) and the TV was modern and had movie channels which we were weren't expecting. The facilities were, on the whole, fine- it was nice that there was an indoor pool which was always empty when we went at about 6pm. However, we were told by thomson that the hotel had specific facilities for children ( playground, own buffet etc) which were non existant or closed during our stay. This wasn't a huge problem as our daughter is only 16 months but it would have been nice to know.
For us, the let down of our stay was the restaurant; the food was bland and obviously catering purely to the older English guests, it would have been nice to have some variety. Even worse, some of the restaurant staff were down right rude about our little girl when she threw some food on the floor- if they are so adverse to mess, they shouldn't advertise themselves as a family friendly hotel! We always cleaned up after her anyway. Our worst experience was on my birthday, the vegetarian option at the buffet was mushrooms so I ordered off the special vegetarian menu which was a mistake, as, after a 45 minute wait, I received a burnt slab of vegetable lasagne made with peas and carrots- horrid.
All in all, hotel was ok, restaurant was pretty poor. This didn't ruin our holiday but we wouldn't go back.

Stayed here for a week in February, very lucky with the weather.
Hotel is tired but they are working on it, keys to room doors, don't see that too often now.
A bit out from any where really although the bus service is excellent.
Couldn't fault the staff apart from one surly bar man on our last night.
Hotel is offering weekend specials to the locals, they take over and eat like locusts, food seemed to improve when they were there too....
Bit out of the way for us and won't return, big world out there to visit.
Wifi wasn't free and very slow if you don't really need it don't bother.

My wife and I just spent 5 days at MBH. Our first floor room had marvelous views overlooking the bay and Mellieha village in the distance all lit up at night was beautiful. Enchanting gardens. The friendly helpful staff and good food were a bliss. The bus stop is just outside the Hotel grounds, with very regular buses that get you anywhere in no time at all and so cheaply; 6.5 euros for a week hop on any bus. In summer it must be great, as there is a large outdoor pool (besides the warm indoor one) and a private sandy beach with sunbeds and all facilities. Its sunny all year round in Malta, anyway. The room was very comfortable, with impeccable cleanliness. Splendid country and seaside walks in any direction from the Hotel. A big thank you for the manegment and staff for the outstanding service.

Room Tip: Any room has a seaside view, with Mellieha village on the hilltop at the opposite side of the bay. M...

It must be difficult for an hotel this big to do a makeover without closing over winter but this is what this place needs. Part of the dining room was being refurbished with a bit of dust and noise
but the overall impression was of happy staff, reasonable food and clean rooms. Good views except for the tar on the beach!

We really enjoyed our stay. Great views and staff were excellent. Easy to travel anywhere as bus stop just outside hotel and with daily fare of €1.50 cheap too. Food was good and entertainment everynight - although that could have been better at times.

Room Tip: All rooms have sea view!

we were in 1st floor room had the most gorgeous views overlooking the bay. and the village in the distance all lit up at night was beautiful . lovely gardens . friendly helpful staff and good food I usually like to be near centre of resort this hotel was out of the way but it actually didn't bother us the bus stop was just outside with very regular buses that got you anywhere in no time at all and so cheap 6.5 euros for a week hop on any bus i think this hotel is more for older people. there were mainly elderly there entertainment leans that way as well. some really good some not .we went with Thomson we were told by several that Thomson has the best rooms at the hotel though we didn't see others to compare a good hotel

Room Tip: wouldn't go lower than ist floor for views over the bay other guest said she had adjoining room...
