After checking in, we were shown to the lifts, which for the 1st to 7th floors required going through a few dingy hallways which do nothing to create a good impression, nor did the creaky lifts which were barely big enough to fit 2 people with small suitcases.
Our room (twin) was very small compared to most others in that kind of environment and whilst there were a lot more cupboards and places to store your things, this of course meant much less floor space and you were constantly banging into the cupboards and drawers trying to get past them.
The food in the restaurant was often cold, sometimes undercooked, and the menu had little variety. There were 4 themes they rotated between, Asian, European, Mexican and Spanish. Unfortunately, there were 4 nights in a row where we had been given European, and the menu looked even more "samey" then, as we were only there for 8 nights, it didn't get too bad, but I would hate to be there for 14!
Admittedly, it was my fault for not checking, but the rooms were not air-conditioned, which lead to a lot of broken sleep as the rooms were just far too hot, and being on the first floor (luckily, since we didn't want to go near the lifts again) meant that we didn't dare leave the windows open as there were often cockroaches and ants on the balcony that we didn't want to get into the room. There were standing fans rentable from reception for the low, low price of 30 euros a week, or, of course, you could go down the street to a local electronics shop and BUY one for 12 euros.
Speaking of things that cost extra, we were also told it was 1 euro per night for an extra pillow, when the ones they provided were so pancake thin (and only one per person), this was unacceptable.
Additionally, only 1 power plug in the room, and that was normally used to power the TV, so if you wanted to charge your phone/laptop/camera/ipod, you had no TV, and of course, if you have more than one, they need to take turns. Not a massive problem, but inconvenient.
They did organise games for the adults such as waterpolo, which were advertised on the hotels activity board, sadly, not one of them took place at the advertised time, so it was pot luck if you were available at the time.
Additionally, we may have been looking in the wring places, but I could not see anything particular to do or visit in the local area (though a free bus to Siam Park is right outside, which was handy) and it was a little way from the nicer beaches. Not a bad location in any sense, and it was certainly quiet, also good for the market (every Sunday) but the rest of the week it wasn't great either.
Good points included helpful and friendly staff (the hotel's pricing plans on fans and pillows etc were not their fault, and they were very helpful), the rooms were clean, the pool was nice, if a little small, if you were on at a buzy time of year, I could see it being cramped, and the shower rooms we booked for use on the last day were very nice.
