“another great holiday”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 25, 2012

We stayed at Sandy Golf in March this year. It was our second holiday in these bugalows and i can recommend them. Each bungalow has it`s own garden area and a small enclosed area for hanging washing. The staff are polite and helpful and the cleaners always do a thorough job. Evening entertainment is in the Green Golf complex across the road. It`s a 20-30 minute walk to the beach but a free bus service runs several times a day to the beach and into Playa del Ingles. We are going again on the 17th november. Can`t wait!!

First time to GC and we wanted a quiet break. Having read the reviews, this resort ticked our boxes but there were a couple of reasons we didn't give this a 5 star rating.

Good points: Very clean and well maintained with cleaners coming round most days. Sheets were changed throughout our 2 weeks. Facilities within the bungalows were as you'd expect; 2 ring hob, cooking utensils etc. There was no micro or grill but that didn;t bother us. Large patio with 2 sun beds - would have been nice if each bungalow had two of the comfortable sunbeds rather than those horrible white plastic ones. Most bungalows seemed to have one of each. The resort itself is well maintained and the pool was very nice. Never busy enough for it to be crowded and white plastic loungers were always available. Only used the pool bar on our last day which was OK. Transport to and from beach and town was available which we used most days.Resort was indeed quiet and we had asked to be away from road which was accommodated - although it wasn't a busy road, it still had it's traffic.

Bad Points: Were not fussy travellers but the beds were awful. Didn't manage to sleep once throughout the night and after a week, we were so tired. However, on our last day, we were given the use of bungalow 38; just opposite reception and noticed that the beds were proper sprung mattresses. We mentioned this to reception who said all beds were the same. We explained that the beds in our bungalow (030) were not the same and she said she'd look into it. Nevertheless, the beds we had were the worst in all our travels which clouded our opinion on the resort.

Overall a very good resort, and just what we needed and had the beds been more comfortable this would have received 5 stars. Would we return? Yes.

Had such a good time in June that we're going back again next week! We've been going to Sandy Golf for the past 6 years and quite honestly, I don't think that you can beat it for value.
The complex is very well maintained and the gardens are beautifully kept. We really like the location - it's very quiet and peaceful yet within easy reach of some really good restaurants along the front at Meloneras. The pool is just great and there are always plenty of sunbeds available. The rooms are very clean and comfortable and the patio area is a real bonus - very spacious. ideal for sunbathing and eating. It's the ideal place to chill out.

We have just returned from the Sandy Golf, and as ever, have had a lovely holiday. I cannot fault the place, from the lovely staff to the well kept gardens and pool area. It is perfect for us.

There is no entertainment here, so the evenings are quiet, just right if all you want to do is sit on your patio and have a meal and a drink. Of course, if you want some nightlife Playa del Ingles is only a short taxi ride away, the best of both worlds.

The courtesy bus to the beach is a bonus as it is quite a walk.

A short taxi ride to the San Fernando district takes you to several big supermarkets - Mercadona, Hyperdino and Spar, the best place to stock up at the beginning of your holiday and much cheaper than the local smaller supermarkets.

If you are on half board, these meals are taken over the road at the Green Golf and the bar at the Sandy Golf is only open during lunch time and the afternoon. We cook in alot and find the facilities in the kitchen quite adequate to organise simple meals and snacks.

We cannot wait to go back.

Room Tip: We always ask for a bungalow in the inner circle nearer to the pool

Started going to Sandy Golf about 6 years ago when we watched it being renovated and have been going every year since and going again in a couple of weeks. It’s a great place to chill out and relax. There is plenty of space between the bungalows and the gardens and rooms are well maintained. It’s quiet and relaxing, with no problems getting a sun bed around the pool, in fact you might be the only ones there as most people seem to enjoy using the courtesy bus down to the beach. It may only be two star but it has everything you need, we even manage to cook three course meals for friends. The walk to the beach is a good 25 minutes but worth every minute for the cool beer when you arrive! Taxis are plentiful and only cost about 4 euros. Explore the real Gran Canaria and find the large supermarket in San Fernando and the fish mongers and butchers down the road.

Room Tip: Had a number of different rooms and can't complain about any.

If you’re looking for a peaceful, relaxing location in good quality accommodation, not too far from restaurants and bars but far enough away to be undisturbed, then Sandy Golf is absolutely ideal. However, there is one factor not mentioned in the brochure (at least not the one we used, anyway), and that is the proximity to the road (Avenida Neckermann) of some of the bungalows in the north western quarter and outer ring of the development. It didn’t cause us too much of a problem as we got used to it, and we never felt it bothered us enough to be asked to move to a different bungalow. When I took the photo from the road I realised that our bungalow was about as close as you could get! So if you think this might spoil your holiday, I recommend you ask for a bungalow on the opposite side or at least on the inner ring. It’s not as if the road is a motorway or anything and after 10pm it’s almost deserted, but from about 5.30 you get some delivery vans and all day the buses pass by quite often.

But in every other aspect the accommodation ticked every box for us. It’s spacious, modern and very clean. Our maid service was very good, although we’re late risers so we had to put the Do Not Disturb sign out and one day we missed the housekeeper, but that’s our look out. There’s a sink, fridge, hob, kettle, coffee maker which was all we needed as we ate out every night. Cooking might be a challenge for anything other than pasta because there’s no oven or microwave. There’s a handy little secure terrace out the back for drying towels, swim suits etc. Shoer was really good, too, plenty of pressure. The bedroom has loads of wardrobe and drawer space, there are twin beds pushed together which is odd seeing as 99% of people staying there are going to be couples. The safe is really useful and has loads of space, it’s bigger than the laptop-sized ones you get in most hotels, only 13 euro for the week. Another bonus as the evenings were really warm is the ceiling fan in the bedroom. Outside you have your own table and chairs, and 2 sun loungers although they are not the adjustable type and ours were hard plastic where some bungalows had plastic canvas ones which would be more comfortable. Might need to get a couple of inflatables to lie on next time. There’s also a retractable canopy over your sun terrace as well so plenty of shade available if you want it.

The free wifi is a bit patchy, basically unless you were within 10m of one of the antennae you don’t get anything on your terrace and certainly not inside. I had to walk and stand opposite it to get a signal.
The surroundings are very pleasant with trees and bushes everywhere, offering some natural shade and they are very well kept. The pool is great, never more than 1.5m deep and plenty of room. It seemed pretty quiet when we were there, I think it might have been kind of in-between seasons. As a result there seemed plenty of sunbeds available, although the amount of shaded canopies around the pool was limited (no parasols). We didn’t sit by the pool because you didn’t really need to anyway, you could sit outside your bungalow and then wander over to the pool.

The pool bar is only open from about 10 I think till 7pm, and the restaurant is basically shut. You can get snacks etc. (we only got drinks from there) but if you want a meal you have to go over to the Green Golf across the road but as other reviews have said the restaurant reminded me more of a works canteen, not very nice surroundings.

The Minimarket in the Green Golf is OK for the essentials but there is a supermarket still open over in the Faro 2 about a 10 minute walk (not much else there other than 2 bars and 2 restaurants) which has a bigger selection. We wandered over to one of the Spars in Playa to stock up, and got a taxi back.

The nearest restaurant is El Nublo in Faro 2 which is really friendly and good value. If you walk towards the Faro, the first restaurant we came across is an Italian called Grande Canale (as you might expect, right next to the bridge across the dry river bed). Food was good there, if you could put up with the plinkety plonkety live music (guy with a keyboard, basically). Most nights we took the 25 minute walk down to the Faro where there’s loads of restaurants and a couple of bars, like Paddy’s and the 19th Hole. We got a taxi back most nights, 4 euros.

Overall this is a really great value location for a perfectly peacefull holiday without noisy shouting or general disturbance, whilst being just close enough to the livelier places if you wanted to go there.

Room Tip: Avoid rooms 11 to 19 / 49 to 57 if you think the road noise would be an issue for you

We love this place so quiet at the time of the year we go, the bungalows are clean and compact and near the swimming pool. The bungalows are cleaned daily and fresh towels put in. The swimming pool is large, round, very clean and set at just the right temperature. We do not use the restaurant as we choose to go out at night for a meal. The staff are always helpful and deal with all our requests. We have been twice and are about to book our third. It is such a lovely place.

Room Tip: all the bungalows are in a circle so all the same distance from the swimming pool. All get the sun a...
