“charming hotel with ample space ,easy access to more entertaining spots”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed May 10, 2010

I travelled to the Cay Beach over the easter period this year with my mum and 6 month old daughter. It wasn't too far from Las Palmas airport (30min drive) which was okay and we received a warm welcome upon arrival. Getting around the hotel was good with a pram as they have made an effort to put a ramp wherever stairs appear but obviously as these are bungalows there are no steps once inside your apartment. We found the apartment to be very spacious and clean though the number of ants present did put me off a bit. I love to empty the suitcase as early as possible to provide a home from home experience, though I found myself franticaly removing all items i'd put in the drawers to avoid shaking them out daily.
Avoid opening the back door after around 5pm as this appears to be when the drainage system kicks in and it lets out an awful smell.
Night-time entertainment is very limited but you could quite easily catch a taxi into nearby areas for this.
Staff were friendly though if you choose to eat at the restaurant in the evenings BEWARE OF THE WAIT. There only ever ppeared to be one woman serving all 15+ tables, thats; taking the orders, clearing the plates, taking orders for those wanting to take out, serving in the bar, taking payment and everything else inbetween. She was absolutely lovely clearly under too much pressure. Employing another waitor/tress would allow for better customer service.
The choice at breakfast was vast though they could do with extending the hours.
Nobody ever seemed to go into the pool and we were told by a few guests that this was because the water was too cold. I didn't brave it myself but was quite content lazying around it amongst many others.
This really is a family friendly accomodation with a kids pool, playground, mini-golf and play area. I would consider going back, its just a shame you can't easily take a short walk into a lively area,, although it's not far, it's a taxi ride. In general thumbs up :-)

This hotel was ideal for a week of rest and relaxation. Located ina quiet smart area of maspalomas this friendly, effciently run hotel is ideal for couples and families. Staff at the hotel are helpful and very pleasant. The rooms are spotlessly clean and well equiped with all mod cons. Each bungalow also has a patio where you can happily sit having that pre-evening drink before going into Maspalomas. One advantage of this hotel is that the pool area is very large with (in our experience) plenty of sun beds and umbrellars. We certainly had no problem getting shade and sun loungers with plenty of space are around. We only had one meal in the restaraunt which was nice although this is because we tend to like to go out in the evenings for a change of scenery. If you like to go out most of the bars and restarants are a short taxi ride away (only 3-4 euros) howevr there are planty of taxis so you can always just pick one up outside or the hotel will call one for you. I would defintely stay here again if I came back to Gran Canaria.

My fiancee and I stayed at these apartments for two weeks in August 2009 and I have to say that I was a little worried going here based on some of the reviews I had read. Some people mightnt have enjoyed their stay here but we certainly did. The room was cleaned daily and was comfortable to stay in. The kitchen has a little stove and a fridge-freezer and plenty of cutlery, dishes and glassware. TV doesnt have much to watch but people dont go on holiday to sit and watch TV. The pool was small but good for a quick dip. Very packed with kids firing plastic balls at each other which might end up hitting you. Thats a bit irritating but not against the kids, more the dopey parents. Bar staff were friendly and fast at serving. The exercise chap was excellent at his job and most people joined in his regime in the late morning. Pool side area is not slippy and clean. If you want a pool chair you gotta get up at 630am and place a towel over it otherwise they go very quickly. We were self catering so I cant comment on the food. The hotel is a short and cheap taxi ride away from Maspalomas beach which is brilliant for shopping and also for just relaxing on the beach in the afternoon. Lovely promenade walk at night and theres a great bar where you can sit outside and listen to a bunch of chill out music as well as a live singer who is quite good. A whole bunch of assorted restaurants are also there so you wont go hungry! Excursions with Thomsons are excellent, except stay away from the submarine one in Purto Rico. Its a little disappointing. In fact stay away from Puerto Rico full stop. Its tacky and dull. Definitely visit the water park though and do the camel ride through the sand dunes if possible. Also visit the animal park where you will see (and hold) a bunch of tropical birds and a few raptors. Lovely walk around for a few hours although it is mostly uphill and gets tiring if you arent too fit.
If you like cats you will love the apartments. Cats everywhere and they arent dirty. Very friendly and really cheeky for food (the big lion-like cat knows that the fridge equals food and used to look at me and paw the fridge!). I saw one cockroach outside and it was dead. Not loud at night so your sleep wont get disturbed. You have to pay a small sum for the air conditioning but it is very efficient at cooling down the bedroom (only room that has it). There is internet access in the main reception which ir pricey but youd only use it if you really needed to check your emails or something.

In summary it was a pleasure to stay there and Id love to return someday.

Hotel was ok very clean and staff very polite and friendly. We only ate in the hotel during the day the food was ok no problems. The room was clean and cosy. We found the pool to be extremerly cold but once you got in it was noramaly ok. The only bad thing I have to say is about Gran Canaria in a whole and that is the amount of cockroaches there is. The hotel sprayed the room daily and luckily enough we never had any in the room but during the night they would appear from everywhere.

I would come back this hotel as it was quiet, peaceful and very relaxing.

What I loved most about this hotel was the pool are - large, spacious, clean and not too crowded. (And the heated jacuzzi!) Though I didn't travel with children there was a lot on in terms of entertainment for them and the hotel included facilities like tennis courts, play park and mini-golf.
The staff were friendly and helpful, providing bus timetables and information where needed. The pool bar food is tasty and cheap. The restaurant on site we never ate in, except for the last morning where we had the breakfast buffet, which had a good spread of hot and cold food and drink. If you're self catering and wanted to book in for any of the meals it was 7euro for breakfast and 10.50 for dinner.
The bugalows were basic but spacious, and were a nice environment for a base. We went self catering, but i think all the bugalows are equipped with the basic cooking apparatus. We had a maid to clean and change the towels most days - she even did the washing up when I destroyed a pan (!)
There were tiny ants running about towards the end of the trip, but I think that was more for leaving the doors and windows open all the time. Cats - plenty of cats, they're everywhere, enjoying the good life and lounging in the sun. They're friendly enough though, and often just come and sit in your company.
The hotel itself is situated about a 25-30 minute walk from the beach, but the hotel provided free shuttle buses which left hourly. For traveling to anywhere else there was a bus stop right outside the hotel for easy transport to neighbouring places like Puerto Rice (nicer beach) or Playa del Ingles.
The shop on site is a little expensive - especially since the exchange rate is essentially euro for pound, but there is a shopping centre an easy walk away with a bigger (cheaper) supermarket and a lovely german bakery, for all your carb-ing needs!
We went (unknowingly) during the carnival and turned up to Playa del Ingles following a family of men in drag we found at the bus stop. I wish we'd have known! It was a brilliant atmosphere, nothing like what you'd get back home, and definately something to bear in mind for next year.
For anyone who has been to very touritsy places you'll know to beware of shopkeepers and restaurant waiters, they'll all but drag you in (and i'm pretty sure one guy got lured into a false handshake and physically pulled into a shop). Just be stern, not unfriendly. If you're planning on being 100% polite on the trip you're gonna end up eating at every place you walk by and buying from all the tourist shops.
Like all coastal resorts you have ample oppertunity to do watersports, go on boats, cruises, etc. We went on the SuperKat which left from Puerto Rico. All-inclusive trip (food and drink) with watersports off the back of it, and a jacuzzi looking off the back of the boat. Judging by the range of people that were there I'd say it was for everyone, except very young children.
All in all, a fantastic time. The bad reviews for this hotel in particular confuse me - it was nothing but enjoyable!

We stayed at the Cay Beach Princess Bungalows, self catering from the 5th to 12th February 2010, through Thompsons, flying from Robin Rood Airport.
The hotel is situated away from the beach and Melonares Boulevard, but is ideal for peace and quiet and has a laid back atmosphere.
The grounds and bungalows are beautifully laid out in landscaped gardens, with swimming pools for adults and children and other activities such as Pool, Tennis and a childrens play area. The accommodation was spacious and clean, having a large Living/Dining area, small kitchen, Bedroom with adequate storage and bathroom with shower. and hairdrier.
The kitchen has a microwave, kettle and coffee machine, but a small oven would have been appreciated.
The small on site Supermarket had adequte supplies for our needs, but there is a larger supermarket about 10 minutes away, next door to a Chinese and Italian resaurant.
However it is a good walk to the beach or Playa Del Ingles, but there is a free buseach way and Taxis are readily available and fairly cheap.
All the staff at the Hotel were very friendly especially the Pool Bar staff. A cheap and reasonable breakfast for eating at the pool or in the bungalow as well as other reasonably priced snacks were also available, but the pool and bar did not open until 10-30am.
Our Thompsons rep was excellent and very helpful and attended daily at a set time.
The resaurant she recommended, was realy good. This was Caio Caio on Melonares Boulevard. Another excellent restaurant was The Gran Italia, but this was somwhat more expensive.
The Hotel is a good distance from the centre, but is ideal for families and older people like ourselves who just want to chill.
We must recommend the Grand Tour. The scenery is magnificent on a clear day and is well worth the effort, but the roads are narrow and twisting, so you need to be a good coach traveller.
We didnt have any meals in the resaurant, but we were told the were ok and there was entertainment for the children and adults during the day in the grounds and evening in the restaurant.
