Great stay at the Riu Clubhotel Gran Canaria in Melonares.. We took 2 teenagers with us in July 2009. Flights on time, with Thomsons, the hotel welcomed us and another flight late in the evening with a cold buffet and drinks, which was a nice welcome.. Hotel provides free large bottles of water and theres a fridge in the room. Rooms all pleasant and clean/bright. Bathroom clean and good, free toiletries. Food and drinks were pleasant and ok. Large dining areas so plenty of room to sit and eat. A wide range of food and snacks and always something to have, whatever time of the day. If you stay, book the Mexican night at the snack bar between Thursdays and Tuesdays, the buffet is great. All the restaurants are buffet style but the chefs are on hand too.
Pretty promenade to the back of the hotel with some nice bars, restaurants and shops.
The only downside we had was that you had to put the towel on the sunbed around the pool early in the morning, even though the hotel has a policy that you cannot do it. Everyone did. Some english there when we stayed, but many other nationalities too.
