I am a travel consultant within the UK so I like to be completely honest with my reviews.
I travelled with my Mother on the 24th October 2012. We were upgraded to a suite so I can only comment on the room type we had and the experience we had. I will try and be as clear and thorough as possible.
To be honest the room we had was perfect, this was a suite so it may have been different to the other rooms, I didn't get to see the standard room types. The suite we had overlooked the gardens, the pool and had a sea view. Room Number 3067.
The room was always spotless and one day when we were left out the do not disturb sign on the door the reception gave us a call in the evening to double check we didn't need anything.
I believe the hotel is having a refurb on the rooms but the suites hardly need it.
The all inclusive was brilliant, when we went it was 24hour all inclusive, I am not 100% sure if they will continue this once the refurb has taken place but I hope they do. The drinks include international brands which makes all the difference! You have a wide choice of cocktails, Spirits, and lager, also the odd tequila which we regretted the next day.
The food was plentiful and there was always something there that you would like even if your a fussy eater. I couldn't fault this.
The staff make this hotel amazing, they all work so so hard, they never seen to stop, they always have a smile on their faces and are always willing to have a chat or say hello whilst they are whizzing passed you.
Every member of staff work their socks off, from the waiters to the bar staff and entertainment, they were truely brilliant.
Special mention to Victor & Paco in the late night bar, they work through the night, they remember everyones drink orders and were constantly lovely. These two worked so hard and were lovely people aswell.
The hotel is on a promenade that leads to maspalomas one way and melonares the other, both are nice areas, Maspalomas has more designer based shops and a larger shopping centre. If you continue walking passed the shops you reach the dunes and Paddys Bar, a small irish bar that shows the football if the men are missing it. Nice area to walk along in the day or at night. Prob wouldn't recommend walking it at night alone or if you are two females alone, we made this error and got followed by a drunken group of men who took a bit of a fancy to us.
This is the only area that was a bit of a downfall, The entertainment team work so hard, they are active from morning through to the night and I honestly believe they are fantastic however...
the shows were rather poor for such a large hotel establishment, I thought RIU would be pushing fantastic evening performances, instead it was bad miming and rather random acts.
The team can speak all different languages, which is needed at this hotel, but the evening performance mostly in english were based on old theatre shows, a performance of the team miming to grease and a random one called the crazy show. This was the only let down really and I do feel bad saying this because I know how hard the animation team worked.
However the team activities in the day were brilliant from yoga to water polo the team got everyone involved and they looked lots of fun.
It is correct that there are varied nationalities at this hotel, however we found it no problem. The first night it was slightly intimidating but you just get on with it. When we arrived at first there were very few english due to the fact the schools hadn't broken up but once the weekend hit and the schools broke up within the UK then we noticed many more english people joined.
If this is something you would want ensure you go during school time.
This is definatley a hotel for children, they will have loads of things to do and will never get bored.
I believe this hotel is absolutely fantastic, from morning to night the team work endlessly to ensure all guest have an amazing time. I personally will be returning next year. Anyone reading the reviews who is unsure what to expect, you wont be disappointed. I hope that once the refurb has been done the hotel doesn't change to much as I think how it is now its deserving of the fantastic feedback it has been given.
