“End of year vacations 11”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed November 4, 2012

Many little details made us decide taking another Hotel for these end of year vacations for 12-13 in Maspalomas. Mainly the problem was with the Food & Beverage (buffet and swimming pool side) - Rooms are Okay, but not for the price we paid.

This was our 11th visit to this Hotel and the second time this year and we had another great stay. hotel is clean, rooms are good but could do with some renovation we stayed on the 7th floor and the views are spectacular. The hotel always makes you feel so relaxed and that complimented by the service given by some particular staff in the restaurant especially Enriques who always makes our visits so memorable but supported by Nicos and solimun. The hotel is under a new manager and it appears he has made some small changes but have had a big value for myself and wife's holiday. See you again next year.

Ok, I'm biased as this was our 9th time in this hotel. The buildings are spectacular with massive spaces for sunbathing. The rooms all look out to sea - higher rooms are best - and are well-furnished. We stayed half-board: breakfast is really good with lots of choice. Dinner is a buffet and has a range to suite most tastes. We swapped on 3 days to have a buffet lunch instead and it is like dinner but fewer choices. The pool bar does good snacks for lunch and we ate there a few times - everything gets charged to your room.

As regulars we got one free meal in the Gaudi restaurant - it is superb - it would have been worth the money if we had paid for it!

The piano bar on top floor (reception) is a relaxing place for an evening drink.

The hotel has a small shopping centre adjacent at the beach and it has a supermarket on ground floor. There are a few bars there too and the Chao Chao Italian restaurant is good for a night out.

A 15 minute stroll along well kept prom takes you to the Faro and Varadero centre - lots of restaurants on front and The 19th Hole for live music (Gerry Lane is worth listening to). If you don't want to walk 4 euro is the taxi fare.

Room Tip: Higher rooms are best but some are pricier. Floors 1 and 2 are below pool level and look onto stree...

We arrived with fairly high expectations after looking over H10's own website, and the reception area didn't disappoint. We were checked in and off to our rooms within no time.

Rooms: the rooms were lovely and a great size. The views were over the pool and the sea. All rooms seem to have a large balcony with nice furniture. Very disappointed though to see that no tea & coffee facilities in a 5* hotel! They charged us 5 euro per day! There are no information packs in the rooms either- so you have to guess the minibar prices, guess how to use the phone & air con etc. Also no information on the restaurant opening times or how to book the A La Carte restaurant. Simple yet not available!! 5*??

Pool: pools were lovely, but everyone reserves beds- even though there are signs everywhere. The staff do not remove them as they say they will. The beds are very old and need replacing as some are very grubby. The beds in the adults only area are all gone by 10am so beware.

Meals: We only ate in the buffet restaurant and the food was consistently good. As with all buffet hotels the food can be a bit cold and repetitive. The staff were OK, not particularly quick off the mark with getting your drinks.

Beach: we were disappointed with the beach as no white sand and blue seas, but rough waters and rocks. We went to Maspalomas beach once and again it was very rough and the rocks under the sea were dangerous as you couldn't see them!

Location: the hotel was a good 30 min walk from Meloneras upmarket shops and bars. There were a few supermarkets and a few restaurants but not worth raving about. Meloneras was lovely and a taxi was only 3 euros each way.

Overall we would only return to this hotel if there was a decent offer on and if we wanted to just chill by the pool. If you want a hotel with great local facilities- look elsewhere. We would recommend it but would make sure that friends and family knew all the above!

Dear DevonTravella,

Thank you for sharing you opinion about your stay at the H10 Playa Meloneras Palace***** on Trip Advisor.

We are happy to read that you enjoyed your holiday with us but we are also sorry for not having achieved your expectations.

We would like to make clear some of the points that you have mentioned:

First of all, the coffe-tea service is a normal service in a city five star hotel, but not in a vacational one. Furthermore we offer this service for only 4€ a day.

You are totally right with the lack of information of the Minibar but we would like to inform you we are preparing a book with different types of information referring to the hotel. However all the information about restaurant opening times is given by our staff of reception when you make the checkin. Our guests can also find this information in the lifts, in the information area in front of the main restaurant, etc.

About the reservation of the sunbeds our Public Relations and Swimming-pool staff remove the towels twice a day before 10 a.m. After that time it is very difficult to know if the guests are swimming or away.

We would also like to explain you that the beach does not belong to the hotel. The Meloneras beach is a public and natural one which nature is having also volcanic stones.

We thank you for all your comments. They help us to improve day a day and offer our dear guests the best service.

Best regards,

H10 Playa Meloneras Palace Team.

Disappointed at this 5 star hotel. More a 3+ star. The food was really bad, except for the breakfast which was very good, although everyone was seated really close together and therefore no privacy. We had the choice of swapping our evening meal for a lunch but lunch was just as bad as the evening meal and we ended up eating out 5 out of the 7 nights even though we had paid half board.

We requested tea-making facilities (4 euros per day) and waited 4 hours after 3 calls only to get a broken kettle. We've never complained before but this was bordering on Fawlty Towers. Again, we asked for an iron and we had to wait over 3 hours to receive it.

My husband had back pain from the hard mattress but was unable to have the mattress changed.

Good points - great cleaning staff and dining room staff who were helpful and professional. We will not be staying again.

Room Tip: Less noise on the higher floors.

Dear George S,

Thank you very much for sharing your opinion on Trip Advisor and for the nice comments about our staff. It will be for sure a great motivation.

We are very sorry to read that you are dissapointed with our service and facilities. We work very hard every day to achieve our guests expectations and we regret to know that we could not this time.

We are very surprised to read that you found our gastronomy bad. The 90% of our guests find in our gastronomy one of the reasons to come back to the H10 Playa Meloneras Palace. However, we take notice of your comments in order to keep on improving.

We have already taken notice about the problems you mentioned with the broken kettle and the delay of the service. However there is a Guest Services department which goal is to help our guests and who would have saved you time dealing with these kind of problems.

In case you change your opinion, it will be a pleasure to welcome you again.

Kind regards,

H10 Playa Meloneras Palace Team

Everything about this Hotel is for a quiet, relaxing & "wind down" holiday but most importantly is your room position depending on your circumstances. The building reminds me of an octopus with 2 long legs! The centre is foyer, bar, dining area and spa on different levels with bedrooms either side. The hotel is built into the cliff with reception on level 6 (road level) and bedrooms down to level 2. The quietest side is to the left with rooms from level 7 down to 2. The more left you go, the quieter it is. If you want full sea view, ask for level 4 upwards. To the right more activity/noise with larger pool, children area, pool restaurant & bedrooms from level 7 to 4. Level 4 seems to be the only level with direct access to pool from your own terrace ideal for families. Sea view level 6/7. Fantastic double sunbeds with sheets & cushions looking out to sea. Up early if you want one of these but plenty of ordinary beds. You cannot reserve beds before 10am so if you get one, stay on it! Staff patrolling this & will remove towels. Full breakfast buffet, hot & cold, with freshly squeezed orange juice (no charge). Full dinner buffet also but very busy. This is what I was disappointed with, the ambience! You could go to the Gaudi restaurant but you pay extra & it was the other extreme-never anybody in it. Our bedroom/double sink bathroom was plenty big & spotlessly clean. Free safe but you pay for minibar. Asked for double bed but got twin pushed together. Pillows very hard & requested softer which was no problem. If you have late flight ask for courtesy room on check out as these have to be booked in advance. Hotel 10min. walk from Maspalomas along sea front but we were always happy to return to H10 for the peacefullness. One last thing, you pay for your stay on arrival. They give you a card for purchases etc. (no cash transactions). Take note-keep you dockets as your statement is not itemised & docket numbers do not correspond to numbers on statement.

What a wonderful hotel, great outdoor areas, comfy basket sunbeds with soft mattresses and pillows. No bed saving which is always monitored and very welcome. Rooms are large with wonderful views from very large balconies. Staff are very attentive and make guests feel very special, they also go out of their way to ensure any problems are dealt with. The breakfast and dinner menus are extensive and constantly replenished. Despite the hotel being full the public areas never feel crowded and their are always free sun loungers. Everywhere is very clean. The location is quiet with a lovely promenade walk down to Maspalomas. The golf course is nearby for those who play and a beach with a few shops for those who like the sea, however we love to stay by the pool.
