Just returned today from a lovely stay at the Tossa Beach Hotel. After checking out the previous reviews, some good and some not so good, I can see some of both sides of the coin.
Lets start from the beginning and work from there.
We arrived around 12:30 on a Saturday and immediately found the staff to be very friendly and efficient and the foyer was spotlessly clean.
Beware though as there a few hidden charges that you need to be aware of:
€13 Tourist Tax before they give you the key.
€20 for the use of the safe for the week plus a (€10 deposit you get back when your return the key and receipt at Check-out).
If you want to use the fridge in the room, then you will pay the same as for the safe.
So that's €73 you have paid out on day one, if you want it all.
If you want WiFi then it's another €15/week.
All of these are optional apart from the Tourist Tax, but a must to be aware of if you think you are going on an All-Inclusive 'Budget' Holiday, otherwise your hard-earned holiday spending money could be gone before you start!
The rooms were very clean and well kept, with a daily 'Maid Service' who replaced towels and made the bed everyday. The TV in the room was mostly Spanish as you would expect, but with a little patience there are films on in English on the Neox Channel every night, as well as Disney Channel (in English) if you have kids and one channel that plays nothing but American Sitcoms.
The food was very good and the chefs and front-of-house staff work hard to keep it to a good standard. Although the hot choices were simple and the only potato dish is Chips, there are plenty of salads, pasta dishes and sauces to vitalize your taste buds if you are not too prude to try new things. There is always plenty of fruit and a selection of jellies, blancmanges, tubbed ice-creams and strange desserts to satisfy most people.
There is no a-la-carte option, but when you visit Tossa, there are so many restaurants to choose from, that you really don't need another one here.
Drinks in the Restaurant consist of soft drinks, sangria and red and white 'house' wines. The bar staff were always cheerful and helpful and the waiting staff were constantly working hard to keep the table clean and ready for the next diners.
Having lived abroad and spent most of my working life in different countries, I can honestly say that for All-Inclusive food, this is some of the best I have sampled.
OMG, you have to see it to believe it..... words cannot explain the musical act that appeared on the first night, so I will leave it there.
On the second night the entertainment was a Snake Act. Not a real drama if you like that sort of thing, but my wife and I really do not like them, but at a distance they were fine, until they started to walk around the bar..... nuff said, we shot out of there like we'd just done a runner without paying the bill!!!
The good thing is that the sister hotel 'Tossa Beach Centre' across the road also had entertainment on every night except Thursday where there is some sort of quiz or bingo going on in the bar area (share facilities).
Entertainment is always finished by 11:30 at night when the hotel suddenly becomes quiet to allow guests a good night's sleep.
Good selection of soft drinks, local spirits, cocktails, Amstel Beer on draught, house red and white wines and sangria. The snack bar was open during the day when the restaurant was closed.
The bar staff were excellent, cheerful and friendly, although they did seem to fear the very attentive hotel manager who patrolled the hotel like Basil Fawlty on a mission.
The pool in the hotel is clean and relatively small, getting sun progressively throughout the day, but still it's like an ice bath (i'm sure they empty it every night and fill it with leftover ice-cubes from the bar!)
The beach is about 2 minutes walk from the hotel and would put most of the UK beaches to shame with the cleanliness. Although it is a very fine Shingle Beach, It is raked clean every morning and really does look like the postcard. There is a really steep drop about 5 meters into the water though, so beware.
All in all, we had a fantastic holiday at a decent price and we are already looking to book for next year.
Thanks Tossa Beach.
Try and avoid the ground floor (rooms 1-9) as these are on the transit route through the hotel to th...
