GENERAL OVERVIEW: £180 for two people for 4 nights all inclusive equates to £22.50 per person per night (that is purely for the accomodation and food not including flights etc). If you were to book a basic Premier Inn or similar in the UK, you generally couldn't get a room for that price. So don't expect 5* luxury and you won't be disappointed.
BOOKING IN: When we arrived we went to the Tossa Centre (across the road) as this is where we had booked for. We were told we were across the road in Tossa Beach. Not particularly happy with that initially but off we went. We enquired as to why we had been booked in at TB and were told they were full at TC but our room was quiet and had recently been refurbished. Receptionist was apologetic but said there was nothing she could do. We did speak with several other guests who had booked into one and ended up in the other during the time we were there, so not sure why the original requests could not have been met. It is made very clear that no smoking is allowed in the rooms and that a fine will be imposed if there is a hint that this rule is not adhered to. We are none smokers and had no objection to being in a smoke 'smell free' zone!
ROOM: Very clean, quite large, two double beds, lovely large, clean bathroom with shower/bath, toilet and basin (obviously!) and bidet. Nice clean tiling and floor. On the quiet side of the hotel over looking private gardens (room 207). Would not have wanted to have been on the other side of the hotel overlooking the pool and able the bar/evening entertainment. Down side was the air conditioning (or rather lack of) as the outside temperature was in the high 20's/low 30's during our visit at the end of May.
POOL AREA: TC pool gets the sun in the morning, TB in the afternoon. Always got a lounger when we wanted one, but not sure if you would in high season. Pools cleaned each evening and the pool area also cleaned daily.
FOOD/DRINK: Restaurant is in the TB hotel, snacks too were available in the TB, both had bars. Quality of drink was very good as were the measures!! All guests were requested to go indoors at 11pm, presume to reduce noise to local residents and hotel guests in rooms overlooking the outside seating area. We did not object to doing this although some people did. Appearance of inside bar area and restaurant is very 'canteenish'...ie rows of tables and chairs, no comfortable seating etc etc. Now onto the food, and this is where the place is let down. Have to say we never went hungry, but only had very small portions of the food available, mainly due to it not being very exciting and nothing remotely Spanish (Paella is served but only on a Sunday) however, if you were at home would you eat three course meals three times a day??
LOCATION: Few minutes walk to the beach (max of 5 minutes) few minutes more and you are into the old town and the shops, another few and you can be at the old walled town (a must visit!).
I found the sand really uncomfortable to walk on due to the heat of it and the sharp texture however, my partner is quite hardy and said it was ok for him! Watch out as you go into the sea as after a few yards it drops and the sea becomes quite deep, not really suitable for children paddling out too far. there are very nice beach restaurants who offer Paella and Sangria if you wish to have a taste of Spain.
AN EXTRA NOTE: nothing to do with the hotel but the transfers through From2Travel leave alot to be desired. We arrived at Gerona airport a little after 9.30am but didn't leave until 11.30am due to waiting for other flights to arrive. The rep also gave most people the wrong bus number to get on, she blamed the coach company and they blamed her for the mix up. Transfer time was 40 minutes including two drop offs before us, we were dropped off at the end of the road and had a few minutes walk to the hotel. We were told that 48 hours before our pick up there would be a notice posted in the hotel giving details of the pick up time. 18 hours before and there was still nothing so we had to call the office where we received no apology just a 'end of the road at 11.20am'....bit surprising as our flight was 3.45pm!! We were picked up at 11.20am as arranged but then were subjected to travelling all the way down the coast (past Pineda de Mar!!) and back up to Gerona airport where we arrived at approx 2.15pm. Look into alternative transfers would be good advice!!
