“Great Value”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed September 14, 2012

What a pleasant surprise the Miami Tossa Hotel is. It is not flash but doesn't pretend to be. What it is is a friendly, very clean, family run Hotel. The decor is dated, the furniture is old- except the very comfortable beds (in our room anyway). Some reviewers mentioned poor staff. I personally found them friendly and helpful. They speak Spanish? The Hotel is in Spain what do people expect. I do not speak Spanish but still managed to communicate without too many problems.
If your looking for a five star hotel then dont go to the Miami. If you want a clean comfortable hotel that is value for money then do not hesitate

Room Tip: Rooms at the front corners of the Hotel have two balconies so have a choice of sun or shade most of...

My 8 night stay at Miami was unplanned but turned out to be a pleasant surprise.

Compared to other (more expensive) "budget" hotels in Tossa, my room had space to move, big balcony doors, a balcony bigger than many in Tossa, the bathroom and bedroom were both simply decorated in white, housekeeping were great - good supply of fresh white towels every day.

The staff are helpful, the reception, lounge and terrace bar areas are large and give you a sense of space compared to some small hotels/pensions with no public areas. There are books you can borrow, and li-los and umbrellas you can borow for the beach (I left my li-lo there!)

Yes, there was no wifi, but if you find a another bar or restaurant with WiFi you can go online there. Yes, I got woken up by the bin men every night, but this is something which can happen in any hotel or pension. Yes, there was no air conditioning but if you keep the blinds and curtains drawn during the day and open the balcony doors when you are in the room, you can manage the temperature of the room fairly well. Yes, there was a bit of a musty smell when I arrived, but if you air the room it does lessen.

I had actually arranged accommodation elsewhere in Tossa in advance of my arrival in the town, but when I checked in the place was so awful I cancelled and moved to Hotel Miami - and was very pleased I did! I had read some of the online reviews of Miami, some of which were not great, and so I didn't book there in advance. But now that I have stayed there I would stay there again. If you have realistic expectations of what to expect from a hotel at this budget you will not be disappointed by Hotel Miami.

3 night break for a birthday celebration, hotel very basic but spotlessy clean with clean towels daily. No air con in the rooms and not massive rooms to say the least but does the job to just sleep in. Billy the night porter is by far the greatest asset of the hotel.. even though he classed me as one of the lads, but wicked sense of humour, helpful and banterful (See Billy for the secret swimming pool, best kept secret in tossa). Meals are the hotel are cheap and bloody lovely highly recommend the 1/2 chicken, chips and drink for 8 euros. Overall lovely little break in a gorgeous little spanish town in the beautiful sunshine.

Room Tip: Pay the right money to be given a room with a view, as apposed to cheap room rate with a view of the...

You certainly get what you pay for... The night porter Billy was hilarious (shame he's an Arsenal fan) helped us out with a few inquiries including where to find a swimming as the hotel do NOT have their own ( Billy will thank me for that 1). Tossa de mar is perfect for a little get away with beautiful scenery.

Ok... so this hotel is not the Ritz but I am not sure what people are expecting at under 40 euros per night in high season.

It is a little outdated but spotlessly clean. The room was made up with clean linen every day. The bathroom was clean and the shower powerful and there were no issues with hot water.
The breakfast is basic standard fare, cereals, yoghurts, bread, croissants, ham and cheese. The orange juice is at least cold and served in decent sized glasses! The coffee is yum.

The family who run the place are Spanish (of course!) and yes, they don’t speak English but why indeed should they? You don’t find many seaside B&B owners in England speaking Spanish. They do speak some French and frankly you should make an effort to greet someone and order a drink in their native language, not your own- plain good manners!

The noise of the dustbin lorries and street sweepers is a bit of an issue at 4am, but we got used to it, after all you don’t have to get up at 7am and go to work! Also the bins would get nasty in the heat if they were not emptied every day!

A computer with internet is conveniently situated in the open plan dining room, just the thing to check your email- 50c per 10 mins (cheaper than your phone!)

The Terrace bar in front of the hotel is nice with an awning and trees best of all, the beer is only 2.25 euros a pint (as much as 4.50 euros near the beach) The roast chickens are lovely and only 8 euros for half a chicken and chips.

The resort is a 5 min brisk walk or a 10 min saunter down the High St full of lovely shops. Once you are in the beach area there is a vast array of lovely restaurants and bars. You can get a very decent 3 course dinner for 12.50 euros with wine. The castle area is lovely and although the restaurants near the castle are more expensive, the quality is good.

We love the beach at Tossa, it is coarse sand which does not get everywhere! The sea is warm in the summer and great for swimming as it shelves to 5 foot deep within a few feet of the shore. The beach is very cosmopolitan with couples and families from all over Europe, predominently Spanish and French.

If you are looking for an English bar on every corner, you will be disappointed, but if the lure of a pint of Strongbow, egg and chips and English TV is too strong we recommend Sherwoods, in a little side street at the north end of the beach (near the supermarket)

Just remember you generally get what you pay for in this world and the Miami is a clean basic hotel that will not break the bank.

Room Tip: Rooms on the front are quieter, even though they overlook the road as the bin lorries go down the si...

Have just returned from a week at the Miami Tossa Hotel. First impressions were pretty basic and it is basic but very clean and we had clean towels every day and cant fault the cleaners. Our thanks to Billy for making our stay even better, with our little chats when we came back in the evening and whatever task we set him, he always delivered!! Thank you Billy and pass on our thanx to Phil, our own personal tour guide.
