We visited here in September and it is well worth adding to any itinerary in the Kongsberg area. The complex houses not only the mining museum but also a skiing museum, a mineral museum, Norwegian Royal mint museum, an armaments museum and last, but certainly not least, the amazing 'silber kabinett' a room dedicted to silver specimens from the Kongsberg silver mines. There was also a display of old mining photos. A key part of the museum is the tourist mine established at the site of the old access and surface works of the Kongens Gruve silver mine, a few kilometres out of town. A visit here involves a noisy ride in a small train into the heart of the underground workings, good value and very educational. It's a pleasure to see the pride that Norway obviously has for its industrial heritage.
