“We can't wait to go back!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 16, 2013

From the minute we arrived at Penbontbren and Richard came out to greet us we knew we had found somewhere special. There was a birthday card waiting for me in our suite and even a phonecall to enquire about my wife's wellbeing when she was not well. We decided to stay another night and did not want to come home even then! This was 5 star accommodation, 5 star hosts, 5 star food, just perfect in everyway. We cannot wait to go again!

We chose this place for a few days break in early March when the weather can be unreliable to say the least and outdoor activities cannot be relied upon. There's nothing worse than being trapped in a cramped bedroom when the weather is miserable and you can't get out and about. No such worry here. The suites are fabulous, providing all the room you need to chill out and enjoy without having to worry about setting foot outside. We were lucky though and the weather was kind to us, meaning that even in March, we could open the patio doors onto our own private terrace and look out over the beautiful and peaceful gardens. I can only imagine how fantastic this would be in the summer, sitting out in the early evening with a glass or two of your favourite, which incidentally you can choose from the extremely well stocked and surprisingly inexpensive mini-bar. The rooms were decorated and furnished to the highest standard with some lovely extras that show that the owners have put a little more thought into what goes into making the difference between a standard hotel room and a comfortable home from home (selection of books/magazines, "pod" coffee machine, home baked cookies, iron/ironing board, bathrobes etc).
The bed was so capacious, that when lying on each side, myself and my partner struggled to reach out and touch each other! The bathroom is clean and contemporary with plush white towels and luxury toiletries and the shower was excellent and powerful.
Breakfast is served in the main building (room service available for a small charge) with a fantastic choice and the quality was superb.
Due to it's remote location, mobile phone signal was non-existent and the free wi-fi was intermittent. For some this may be a problem, for others I suspect, it may be a blessing as it only serves to reinforce the fact that this is a relaxing escape from daily life.
Richard is a fantastic host for whom nothing is too much trouble and it is clear that he loves this place and revels in welcoming guests and ensuring that their stay is everything that they hoped it would be.

Room Tip: With only 5 suites, all in the converted barn, I am confident that all would be of equally superb st...

We really enjoyed our stay at Penbontbren and will definitely return soon. One of life's little luxuries ! Super value for money. Very comfortable and clean with attention to detail playing a valuable part making our stay an extremely pleasant and happy one. Richard our host gave us a very warm welcome. We look forward to another treat and hope to stay longer this time with some of our family.

Room Tip: We believe all the suites are lovely.

For the price of a B+B you get a whole suite with a beautiful sitting room, so it can be a place to relax and unwind during the day or for long lazy evenings. The owners cannot do enough for you. At last - somewhere where our dog is welcome too . Couldn't be better. Have been twice just for long weekend breaks and will certainly go again. Was full to bursting on Valentine's Day so are not the only ones to appreciate it.

Room Tip: Book in advance if want to bring the dog as only accommodated in some suites.

We stayed at Penbontbren last August for a 2 night break, and it really wasn’t enough! This place is absolutely perfect, from the owners to the décor it was a little welsh haven. Llangranog is one of my favourite places in UK having holidayed here as a child for many years but being such a small place, finding a nice B&B can be tough, so discovering Penbontbren was great. We had originally booked our dates for 24th and 25th august, but due to work commitments had to change the dates to 25th and 26th – we emailed to see if this would be ok and it was changed no problem. When we arrived the owners were really friendly and helpful and the rooms were simply immaculate. Spotlessly clean and beautifully decorated, the bathroom was lovely and my husband and I both enjoyed a long soak in the lovely tub after a day on the beach. The breakfast had a great selection available, and was some of the best I have tasted, and served in the beautiful dining room with sun pouring through the floor length windows, it was just perfect. A special mention has to go to the grounds as they were flawlessly kept.
I can’t wait to return this summer for a longer stay!

Not having any clue on where to go or where to stay, just by chance, we drove down the little lane on a Friday evening, not really expecting much. On arrival, Richard came straight out and welcomed us, and informed us there was a room free. As soon as we saw the room, we fell in love. It was much more than we could have hoped for, just beautiful. The room has absolutely everything you could want or need, and is very comfortable, clean and luxurious. We had a lovely bath, and the mini bar rates are very reasonable!! As for the breakfast, there is a great selection, and the food is cooked to perfection, and the eggs are incredible (from their 'girls' aka hens). I would definitely recommend staying here, and we will certainly visit again. Great staff, facilities, food and atmosphere! Tres bon.

Room Tip: All of the rooms are great!

Rarely do you come across a place to stay that's "just right", but Penbontbren is one of the rare experiences of life which succeeds. From the moment Richard welcomes you, you feel so at home, absolutely nothing is too much trouble. Genuinely. Richard and Huw have created a special place of such prolific high standards in all aspects, the reviews are all so justified. We cannot wait to return to the calm relaxation this place generates. We're so glad we found you. Thank you so much for caring enough to make others feel like this! Diolch yn fawr.

Room Tip: All are excellent
