“Redcastle hotel”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed April 9, 2013

I spent my 53rd birthday at the Redcastle Hotel on April 8. We spent one night there and overall it was a great experience. I had a terrific back and neck massage - an experience I plan to repeat - the setting was wonderful and the views from the restaurant were terrific. The staff were exceedingly friendly and the room was comfortable. The meal was superb though I was a bit surprised there were so few choices of fish, given that this is a seafront restaurant. The downside was that even though the hotel didn't seem to have very many guests when we stayed on April 8, we were told it would cost 30 euro extra for an 'ocean view' room. So an opportunity was missed as far as I am concerned to have guests leave raving about the view, when all of the rooms with a view were obviously not filled. Also there was a sign left in our room that it would cost 8 euro corkage for every bottle of wine or whatever that people wanted to bring into their room if it was not bought in the hotel. I have never seen this 'tax' before and it seems ludicrous. We were also bothered by a fire alarm going off while we were asleep, though it only lasted for a couple of seconds, Then a note was slipped under our bedroom door around 5.30am saying we had not signed for drinks ordered with our meal the previous night - though my wife had signed for those before we left the restaurant. This was easily sorted out next morning. I would go back to this hotel because of its setting, quality of food and friendliness of staff, but the management side maybe leaves a bit to be desired,

Dear Guest
Thank you for taking the time to write a review and for choosing to celebrate your special day in the Redcastle Hotel. I will certainly pass all of your comments on to our team here and we appreciate all forms of feedback. I apologise that the alarms disturbed your stay; they are more often than not activated for reasons beyond our control. We do apply a corkage charge for any alcoholic beverages consumed in the Hotel that are not purchased from the Hotel, we are a licenced premises and do operate the same policy as any bar or restaurant. I am sorry to read that you were disturbed with a noticed about signing your bill when you had already done so. Your comments regarding our staff are much appreciated and they do pride themselves in their attention to detail and service. I hope you will return to the Hotel again soon and thank you once again for your comments

This is my 6th time at the hotel and as usual service ws excellent and food beautiful. Down side was our room was over a generator which went on and off all night and the fire alarm went off several times during the first night. First time I have ever been charged corkage for bringing in our own wine - which we won in the local town's ballot. 7 euros but thankfully it wasn't a bottle of spirits - corkage for those were 20 euro!!! Will still be back in the autumn.

I would like to say that I had a very enjoyable stay at Redcastle. Family break with 3 kids (12,9 and 5 years old) - staff were great - food was good - facilities were perfect for family. -
Hotel was good base for exploring Inishowen peninsula - Beaches at Malin (Five Finger Strand) is world class
Keep up the good work.

Hotel good, food good, staff very pleasant, nice location for a break, but not great for touring Donegal. Bedroom furniture a bit dated and tatty.
Pity about drunken loud wedding guests until 5 a.m. on both nights we were there - no sleep.
Would definitely go back if I was attending a wedding.
