“Real care and attention”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 13, 2011

Stayed here for one night while on a coach tour. Lovely German spa town, handy for Munich and southern Bavaria. The staff were very welcoming and helpful. Our bathroom was a little small with poor lighting, but the bedroom was fine. The food was pleasant and obviously chosen to appeal to British visitors.

No point in just repeating previous reviews which we found to be helpful & accurate.

Bad Aibling is a pleasant village an hour further on from Munich (yes another Leger customer). Just a couple of tips that might be useful. The family owners are very anxious to please and service was good.

The room sizes differ widely with ours being of similar dimensions to a medium sized dog kennel. The wardrobe was tiny with no drawer space for undies, socks etc, which we had to leave in the suitcases. Only trouble was there was no obvious spot to put the suitcases without much hopping & skipping.

There was no air conditioning or fans (late September so it didn't matter) - there was a hanging garment bar but no hangers - no room safe - no fridge - no tea/coffee making facilities - pillows were huge & fluffy but completely useless in supporting ones poor old neck. I don't think they have any stiff neck problems in Germany judging by similar experiences at other locations..

Food was fine - breakfast being spartan.

Take a walk to the Kurpark & the Village (very close) - we found an excellent Bistro called Sebastianibrau in the centre (set back on the right). Waitresses spoke a bit of English & prices were very reasonable for a limited but more than sufficient menu. Look for a typical bistro/pub with tables outside. We went on two nights the second being quite busy.

Stayed for three nights on a Leger Battlefields tour. The hotel is in a traditional Bavarian style and very comfortable. The ladies of the family dress in lovely dirndl costumes and are very efficient. The staff are very attentive, and nothing seems to be too much trouble for them.

My bedroom was quite warm, but this is not a problem if the windows and curtains are used to effect.

The food was good and plentiful, and the beers not expensive.

For those with cars, there is plenty of parking across the road, and there are nice local walks for the lively ones.

The lift is small, but amazingly fast for such an installation.

I was sorry to leave, and would have no hesitation returning in the future.

Room Tip: The lower rooms are cooler.

This hotel is distinctly average. Unfortunately, we stayed there on a Leger Battlefields Tour in the middle of a heatwave. The first room we were shown to was in the attic and it was like walking into a furnace, despite all the windows being open. There is no airconditioning or fans at this hotel and, when it is hot, you will cook at night. Fortunately, we were able to change rooms to one on the first floor and the temperature in this room at night was 31 degrees C, which was far cooler than the attic room! The bedroom was large, with a sofa and very spacious. However, the bathroom was tiny and only just large enough to turn around in. The lighting was also extremely poor and it was like walking into a dark cave, as there was no window. The breakfast in the morning had a very limited selection and, once this had been taken by the early risers, was not replaced. The evening meal was quite nice, however, and was taken in the garden area. Only problem was this meant you also became a meal - to the millions of mosquitoes. Everyone in our group had lots of mozzie bites, so be warned and take repellent with you. I bought some in Bad Aibling and it set me back 8 Euros for a small bottle of Autan!!

This cute pink Victorian style property's lobby smells like my dear deceased grandma's house, delicious food cooking, a bit of stale cigarette smoke. I felt very at home here.

Our room was on the first floor. It was spacious, full of light and clean. The floors are old, so they squeak when you walk, but it's not irritating, it's sort of charming.

Breakfast was unremarkable, normal German fare. But, dinner in the restaurant (beer garden) down stairs was lovely. Try the steak with herb butter, so much cholesterol, but delicious. It was really nice to be able to have a few beers with food and then take the little elevator up to the room.

The hotel is run by a real live family--three generations with the youngest being a precious baby boy. Service is genuine, but relaxed. The mother of the family helped us book bicycles and remembered to give us a guest card to save us money, without us having to remind her.

The hotel is right next to the Kurpark, which is an idyllic place to stroll and enjoy the little pond and fountain. Orchestras play there fairly often. There's a small garden on the property too. Nice to stroll around after dinner.

Make sure you visit the Italian Ice restaurant in "downtown" Bad Aibling. That place and the Hotel Johannisbad make Bad Aibling a neat place to spend a few days.

  • Liked — Friendly atmosphere, beer garden on premises
  • Disliked — Wished it was a little less expensive, but there are few other places in Bad Abiling
