“not cheap, but excellent value at the end”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 9, 2011

The hotel is located in the old town area, with view to the left up to the castle hill. Probably some high rooms may catch a glimps of the castle, but I doubt it to be direct view, since all houses are same level there and should block the view. My room surely didn't have had any view like that, but was more like a small appartment: corridor, writing desk room, sleeping room and bath room. Well the whole hotel is more old fashioned, traditional and yes: not wheelchair compatible at all. On the search for my room after checkin I also did discover some rooms on floors, that you cannot reach by the elevator, but need to go out on 2nd or 3rd floor, walk down the corridor to the very end, turn right and climb up other stairs to reach your rooms corridor ! Anyhow if you read their website with pictures and history, you wouldn't expect it to be entirely modernized. If you are not going there for a central location inside a historical hotel, I'd recommend another (modern) hotel outside, sorry to say.

I was happy with my appartment - like room, I did like the location in the inner city. Currently they are doing some renovation work in the old city center, so roads are directed a bit strangely and parking may be a problem. The hotel offers parking also in the courtyard.
The furniture of the rooms is mostly old style, traditional, past time, historical... I liked it as an alternative compared to all look alike modern hotels. I guess none of their rooms will look 100% the same, already the building structure and the location of the rooms cannot allow an identical layout => I would really one day have a tour through all of their rooms and research on my theory ;-)))
The breakfast was very nice with great variety, the restaurant also looked nice. But I did prefer some beer gardens along the riverside more.
My final conclusion is: even though not being cheap it's an excellent hotel. But surely not everybody likes that "old stuff"...

Room Tip: rooms behind their beer garden restaurant .... on the left side of the courtyard are actually more...

The management owners were very rude and didn't deal with problems in a professional or friendly manner, always got the 'what is it now' attitude followed by a sigh. Never seem to have enough people on staff to deal with every day problems. I would say the management are living in the medieval times and haven't got a clue of how to run a hotel with professionalism or 'good' customer service. In this day, I know the hotel is in Germany, but for business travelers that don't speak the lingo, at least have someone on staff that can speak 'some' English. The biggest problem is the hotel is not totally wheelchair accessible, in case of any problems, the disabled person, sorry, you're stuck!!

We stayed at this fine hotel for 5 days while I attended an engineering conference in Munich. It is only 1/2 hour from the Munich Convention center. I took the train on one occasion and took my car on several other days....either is conveneint to Landshut.

Our room was clean, contemporary and "on the street" - we loved the muted street noise. The restaurant offers wonderful original German cuisine - along with excellent house wines. We had 10 days in Germany and stayed 5 at this hotel and the meals were the best of our trip.

The hotel is within a few blocks of all of the "action" and the nearby river running through town. There is a "park" located 1/2 block from the hotel where there were "vendors" and pretzels and beer and a great "local" band playing on weekends. Couldn't imagine a better hotel for the value (reasonable all around).

The hotel is in a great spot in the old town area. I stayed for business and the rooms were just a bit off from a business standpoint with no free plugs / points for a lap top at the desk... I used the plug next to the bed but cord wouldn't reach to desk. Rooms were comfortable otherwise with good standards of cleanliness. Hotel restaurant was good for breakfast, but I can't comment about menu for rest of day. Would recommend and stay again if I was in Landshut.

The location was very centrally located to walk around town and see the river, castle and church. The front desk was very helpful, polite and friendly. Our rooms were very spacious, clean with a nice business desk to work from. They had good internet access. The breakfast was wonderful with a very helpful staff.

Hotel Goldene Sonne in Landshut, Germany is a four star hotel in the center of the beautiful town of Landshut. We stayed one night at this hotel after our flight from the states. I had contacted the hotel earlier in the month via the telephone, spoke with Suzanne who was most helpful and decided this would be a perfect stay for our first night. I had requested a quiet room location, bathroom with a bathtub and shower and if possible an early check in. When we arrived at the hotel at 11 AM check-in was very quick and complete and was done by the owner, Karl Baier. Our room (226) was very nice with a large bed, very nice bathroom and the room was also very quiet. Perfect !!! The building is very old, 15c, and it has been very lovingly restored. The breakfast buffet the next morning was a feast with a wide range of choices served in a beautiful room. Sould we ever be in the area again, I would not hesitate to stay here. It was a wonderful start to our vacation in the Bavaria Forest area of Germany.

Tip: Every Friday Landshut has a street market and it is located on the Neustadt which is also the street the hotel is on. Walk around the town - it is beautiful.
