“Excellent hotel for tourist and business visits”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 4, 2005

I have been staying at the Giadrina hotel during most of the period Jan to Oct 2005. Most of the time on my own (due to work) but my wife also visited several times.
Before selecting the Giadrina hotel I stayed at or checked out several other hotels in Frascati.
To me these are the main advantages of the hotel.
-Central location in Frascati (very charming town)
-Some rooms have large terrace with an excellent view
-Nice rooms and bathrooms
-Nearby parking lot behind/below hotel
(about 2€/night). Around "busy hr" 6-7 pm you may have to wait a few minutes for a free space.
-Very close to Railway station. Trip to Rome takes 30 min, ticket 1.7 €
- Very friendly and service-minded hotel staff (some speak English)
- Excellent value for the price

The hotel does not have AC and during August there were a few very hot nights. However thanks to getting a fan in the room it was OK for me.
The Cacciani restaurant in the hotel building is superb.

Stayed two nights here towards the end of June 2005. A good location with some nice views but hotel is very poor. Our room was not clean with human hair on bathroom floor and bedroom floor not swept. Terrace large but very grubby and balustrade covered in cobwebs and grime. Terrace light did not work and furniture old and rickety. On complaint staff did change us to another room which was slightly cleaner. Beware if using this hotel in summer months as there is absolutely no air conditioning! We had to sleep with doors open resulting in lots of insect bites. In breakfast room it was stifling and food not covered with flies buzzing around. Coffee was hot though!! Watch out for mini bar costs being added as both ourselves and our friends were presented with charges for things not used - this was waived when taken up at reception. Not so much as a thanks or cheerio when we left. This hotel is probably good in cooler months as a one night stop as there are other hotels close by with better facilities for less or similar rates.
PS Rooms certainly do not look like website photographs!!

We stayed only one night in this hotel wich is right in Frascati's center. Our room was number 42 with a beautiful terrace and an amazing sight. It was not a very large one even though sufficient, tubs are old and water was warm and not hot. Please note that the hotel has not a parking but you can find some on charge nearby.

Great value for money. We paid 90 Euros per night for an excellent room with great views over Rome and a good breakfast. The pictures of this hotel look nice, and the reality is the same (for a change).

It's the 2nd time we've visited Rome and both times we've stayed in Frascati. Only a 25 minute journey from central station (costing only Euro 1.70!) I'd recommend a stay in this fantastic suburb, and in this hotel. On our previous visit we stayed in Hotel Mercedes (also in Frascati) which was also nice (with great views and facilities) but it's a bit of a walk to the station and Frascati itself (up a hill!).

Now I would never consider paying 3 or 4 times as much to stay in a shoddy hotel in central Rome. Save your money and stay in Frascati!

We stayed there for 5 nights in November 2004 and had no complaints. The prior review about the "40's" rooms is very accurate. Our view was breath taking. We found the staff there very helpful when asked. Otherwise, they left you alone. I consider that a great complement. Breakfast was adequate, we got to know the woman running it in the morning and she was charming after getting to know her.

I would take issue with the previous review however, regarding the attached restaurant. It was as pointed out very nice and while the prices there were a bit higher than others it was widely regarded as the most elegant restaurant around and if you were staying in the hotel you got a 10% discount making it very affordable. Upon arrival they pour a glass of Frascati Prosecco that was very enjoyable and we ordered a bottle with our meal and it was only 10 or 12 Euros and an exeptional bargain. The view was again one of the best we found. At night you can see the lights of Rome and during the day the view is equally breath taking. The food there is undoubtedly the best we had in Frascati and would rival most of the restaurants in Rome. While no one spoke very much English in the restaurant our waiter was fairly young and was very patient in explaining what he could of the menu. Service was very, very good. If we go back to Rome we would definitely day trip back to Frascati for that restaurant.

All in all we would definitely stay there again and recommend it without hesitation.

The Giadrina is good value for money in this part of the world and we have stayed there twice.

It's located right in the heart of Frascatti within easy reach of the station and is a handy 12-minute car ride from Ciampino Airport.

The views from the rooms at the "back" of the hotel (overlooking the Station and the plain beyond) are superb. It's worth paying as small premium for the "40's" rooms which have huge, semi-private sun terraces, though ours lacked enough furniture if we had wanted to
soak up the sun on the terrace.

Try to avoid the rooms at the "front" (above the main entrance). They also overlook the street, which has traffic winding up the hill - and over the noisy cobbles - until late evening and from early morning.

The breakfast is adequate - yoghurt, little choice of cereals, pastries, cake and excellent fresh-brewed caffé. (Less sure about the tea, the English Breakfast-type was in short supply when we were there.)

You enter the hotel into a small lobby and up in the tiny lift to the first floor reception. The staff speak reasonable English, but are not over-attentive.

Below and separate from the hotel is a very swanky restaurant... with equally swanky prices on the menu. €12 to €18 for starters alone. I guess you are paying not only for the food but the chance of getting a table with a great view.

We avoided it and strolled just down the hill (out of the door, ahead and to the left perhaps 80 paces) to the excellent Ristorante di Apollo where they serve a superb fillet steak with fries and excellent pizze.

Overall more than adequate for one or two nights and the best place we've found for an overnight, away from the Autostrade, yet within easy striking distance of Ciampino.

Very good value at around €90 for two B+B when we were there in the Summer of 2004.

Our only "complaints" were the lack of air-con in our room. Maybe some of the others have it, you could check/request it during the hotter months. Also the parking is "on street" and you have to feed a meter or walk a good way.
