“Charming”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 14, 2012

This parador offered charming rooms in a convent. Great location with wonderful views. The roads approaching are so narrow, we weren't sure the car would fit. (a little scary). Parking is free in front but VERY limited. We got the last space. Don't know where you would park if not there.
Good location. Nice breakfast. We had the Golden Package for seniors,so very good value.

Room Tip: If you qualify, ask for senior discount. (Must do ahead of time.) Get there early for parking.

This is, correctly, a star down on Carmona and Granada but still lovely with another stunning setting. In some ways, from a distance and from below, it is arguably the most impressive of the three. Very large bedrooms, off exquisitely arched corridors, with a wide central staircase gives the place a real traditional feel. It is the end window to the mirador bar however which is most memorable, along with the 2 cliff side terraces.

The food is certainly more rustic and suffers from serving frozen fish - which we mistakenly chose one night. Beyond that everything else was fine save the perennial problem of slow service - understaffing to my mind. It is however beautifully positioned for Cadiz, Jerez and even Seville and well worth a visit.

We were expecting the parking problem mentioned in earlier reviews but this seems to have been resolved. The narrow nature of the streets obviously has not - do not come in a large car and always take the, longer, circular route out of the square.

We spent 1 night in this Parador and it was definitely worth the effort of negotiating the v narrow streets to get to the Hotel. I would agree with previous comments to get there early particularly if you want to avail of the parking outside the hotel. The views from the Parador are stunning and the parador itself is full of character. Our bedroom was overlooking the square and was v clean and spacious as was the bathroom. We possibly have had better breakfasts elsewhere as the choice was not v good.

Room Tip: As streets are one way if you take a wrong turn you are back to square one, be v careful driving as...

The views from the terrace (and the rooms) at this one are definitely worth the price. But arrive early so you can get the full value of the views--and to get one of the few parking spaces in plaza out front. The drive to and from parador are along some of the narrowest streets I've ever driven. Another option is to park at underground garage at west end of town, consolidate essentials from your luggage into a backpack, and walk the 10-15 minutes to parador (uphill going). Many fine tapas bars (Caven, Italico) along the way. Be sure to buy some baked goods from convent or macaroons (sultanos) from nearby bakery.

Room Tip: Get there early--mid afternoon the latest--for prime rooms

We stayed here for 8 nights which is obviously much more than the 2-3 days average trip at this hotel. The location at the peak of the town facing the old cathedral and central place offers a stunning view which can be enjoyed on the terrace for all guests or from rooms with balcony. During the nights this hotel is really quiet and offers guest a very relaxing time which is sometimes hard to find in spanish nights :-)
If the breakfast would be a bit less pricy or a bit more of variety and the parking situation (you need to park your car outside oldtown for 10eur/night in the garage or for free on the sandy parking lot downtown) would be a bit more comfortable I would have granted 5 points instead of 4 but I can recommend this hotel as one of the best choice in Arcos de la Frontera.

Room Tip: Rooms with balcony are the most quiet rooms and offer a stunning view

Spent a couple of nights here and were absolutely delighted to find this hidden jewel in the parador crown. We arrived here after spending 3 nights in the Parador in Ronda which itself is a great location. However, whilst we loved the Ronda Parador this parador was even better. We were lucky to get a room with a balcony overlooking the valley and we spent much time simply watching what was going on in the valley.

Getting there is a bit tricky as the local council had stopped anyone other than taxis and residents from driving to the parador. You could drive there to drop off your bags but you had to remove your car immediately after doing this. The parador has negotiated a special rate at an underground car park just before the main entrance but they did not provide very good directions to find it. We ended up on the other side of the town and parked up. We then started to walk up the massive hills to get to the parador but soon abandoned this and took a taxi instead!

Restaurant in the parador was good although the choice at breakfast was nowhere near as good as the Ronda Parador but acceptible. Regarding food do not expect many restaurants at around the parador most were simple bars with tapas. There were only a handful of bars and restaurants within easy walking distance so be warned.

Room Tip: make sure you get full directions to where you have to park your car as you cannot park outside the...

We wanted to travel along "white towns" of Andalusia, and this place was one of our stops. This is a "real" parador, i.e. located in a historic building. Very good inside. Great spacious room and bathroom. I particularly liked that there were "old" toiletries in this parador, as I don't like the new ones. Starting from February, 16 there is no free parking for Parador guests, you would have to drive back to the town. That's a bit inconvenient. The nearby church has very nice bells. It's not very handy that they start sounding at six a.m. From any other point, this is a very good place.
