“Wonderful food! Great skiing accommodation!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed May 27, 2013

Fantastic choice for our first skiing holiday. Excellent proximity to the Golden Jet (about five minutes walk around the corner, 10 minute waddle if wearing ski boots). Wonderful range of facilities, the outdoor pool was excellent for an evening swim, though a little cold and the jacuzzi area didn't work.Tucked away at the back of the pool is a secret cabin with a sauna and shower - wonderful after a chilly dip in the pool and for easing sore muscles after a day on the slopes! Spa facilities were lovely with a great range of showers, though I would watch out for the naked European's if you're a reserved Brit! They also have a store room for all your ski equipment and a bar with a wonderful selection of drinks for the evening. The best thing about the stay, however, was running down to the restaurant every morning and evening. The food is quite simply SUPERB and the waiting staff extremely attentive and friendly. I cannot recommend this hotel enough if you have a hearty appetite!

Buying wine won the staff over - before splashing the cash they were a little stiff - suggesting they are not well looked after.

Rooms were great bar no drink making facilities/mini bar.

Facilities were good; though Brits should watch out for European habit of nakedness throughout the spa area, despite many guests being morbidly obese.

A good stay though - the food was SIMPLY EXCEPTIONAL and the staff were very friendly after the midway point.

3 of 5 stars Reviewed February 16, 2013

This is supposingly a 4 star hotel. According to the reviews on Trip Advisor it is supposed to be excellent. I do not agree (not at all) and was negatively surprised. In my room the furniture was at least 20 years old and the room looked rather sadly decorated (was there any decoration??). My TV set was an old big box with a remote with buttons totaly faded and unlegible!! The SPA is devided in two areas (corridor in between) so every time when you go from one are into another are you have to swipe your room card to open the door..totaly unpractical. Reception staff was not always very helpful.
Breakfast is one of the highlights and the staff serving it was very friendly. Very nice room for skiis & boots.

Room Tip: Take a look before accepting the room..maybe other rooms are better than mine?

Very good hotel close to the cabin lift and ski slopes. It is just walking distance (250m) to the ski lifts and slopes. Excellent service, very friendly staff. Their spa complex is just amazing ! Very generous breakfasts and delicious dinners. Highly recommended hotel in Schladming !

We stayed here for two nights with half pension and found this hotel to offer good value. A five course dinner with vegetarian options was a pleasant surprise in the small charming town in central Austria. Our room was huge (maybe 20 x 25 ft) and had an extremely comfortable bed. The internet connection was somewhat of a problem at first until I realized you need to have a cable to use your computer (no WIFI).

The best part of the town is the drive north up the hill toward Ramsau which winds around some of the prettiest villages you can imaging.

The walk into the town of Schladming from the hotel was interesting once you got there, the walk itself along a busy road much less so.

This is a small, family run hotel in a peaceful setting on the outskirts of Schladming. A pleasant 15 minute walk brings you to the town centre (recommendation: take the Panoramaweg south of the hotel to avoid a lengthy stretch walking along the road). We booked a larger room facing south and, although we were disappointed not to have a view, it was very comfortable, clean and quiet. We were there in the pre-season, an awkward time for hoteliers, so that there were very few guests and no doubt fewer than normal staff. Nevertheless the service was, with one exception mentioned below, very good and helpful.

Two things spoilt our stay slightly. The first was the internet, which, while free, has some problems. It would not allow connections to my email IMAP servers, either using Outlook on my Windows PC, or using my iPad. It also was reluctant to connect to my wife’s VPN server, though would do so eventually after much coaxing. These are not problems encountered anywhere else in Austria (out of 6 other places where we have used internet so far on this trip), or anywhere else in the world that I can recall with more than 100 different networks used). I hope the hotel owners will have this problem investigated and remedied for future travellers.

The other issue we had was with an overenthusiastic but poorly committed house maid, who ignored the do not disturb sign on our door and who placed the dirty towels put in the bath for cleaning back on the towel rail. Another previously unencountered fault in many years of travelling.

Otherwise we enjoyed a very pleasant stay, but my ratings must reflect these two bad experiences.

Comfortable well equipped and spotless rooms, friendly and efficient staff, nice restaurant and wellness area, very good location at 5 minutes walking distance from the old Planai station. A nice choice for your skiing holidays and good value for money.
