Owner description: The Picts in stone - Meigle Museum has an impressive collection of Pictish carved sculpture, including cross slabs, recumbent gravestones, a hogback stone and rare architectural fragments. These demonstrate both the artistic vigour of Pictish society and the skill of its stonecarvers. The former schoolhouse housing the collection backs onto the graveyard where most of the stones were found. The present church at Meigle dates to around 1870, but there has probably been a church on this site for over a thousand years.

I visited the museum and found the most amazing array of stones in one place ,they were very easy to look round as they were displayed verticle and set out so you can see both sides,
the lady who was there was so helpfull and her knowledge was first class, I learned a great deal here about the picts and would recommend a visit to any one, super day trip. Andy Duncan

“Fascinating Collection of Carved Pictish Stones”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 31, 2012

Picked up a leaflet while in Kirriemuir for a weekend, and were guided to the museum (the sign is easy to miss) by the very helpful proprieter of the Joinery, a super cafe on the corner with excellent home baking! What a wonderful exhibition. Lynda, the friendly curator, is an expert on her subject. She was most informative, and helped put the stones' history in context. Most of the carvings are still clear and the guide booklet details the images on each stone. We spent a long time exploring and comparing. Amazing, the worlds that can be contained in a small building. I thoroughly recommend it. I doubt if you will find a better collection anywhere.

“Really interesting visit”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 21, 2012

Visited the Meigle Stones Museum by chance after a recommendation from the shop keeper down the road. Lynda's talk was very interesting and engaging. The history of the stones was fascinating worth an hour of our time without a doubt.
