“Enjoy the solitude...”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed January 25, 2014

This former hunting lodge had all the elements to make it a classic jungle retreat. But alas, some of the features that made it a delight for easy-going tourist looking for solitude close enough to the marvellous city of Jaipur are no longer there.

The lake which not very long ago (Asiad games 1982) hosted the rowing compeition has just disappeared taking away with it the birds that flocked here and the water sports activities leaving you with very little to do.

The rooms are great, the service impeccable and the food not so bad (though a tad lower in terms of spread and quality than you would expect from the Taj Group), but unless you have a group of your own and can create your own group activities there is pretty little you can do here.

Recommended only if you are the kind that can spend days togetherr reading books, lazing in the pool or watching a few birds that can still be seen.

The drive is long from Delhi is long and the traffic is a bother but once you are there the place is beautiful peaceful and the staff Very Warm . The food is not bad but of course we were there for New Year eve and it was cold so keeping the food warm in such an open space could be a challenge

Room Tip: The Rooms on the first floor give a great view and those facing the Garden and Pool would be good to...

This hotel itself is beautiful.
We chose historic suite, which was excellent, there were 2 big beds (One of which we used for putting our 3 yr old to sleep.)
The bathroom and jacuzzi was spacious.
Only issue we saw was that the city Jaipur is 40-50 km away from this hotel, and we had to hire a car for site seeing which added to cost.
The restaurant staff was polite and welcoming. They cooked special cheese pasta and Poha on two occasions for our kid on our request.
If someone is looking for a hotel in city from where all site seeing spots can be visited fast, this is hardly right place but to this hotel experience itself , I would have given something more than excellent if such rating is available here.

Room Tip: All rooms good but better go for the middle option: Historic suite. It is experience worth rememberi...

What a lovely heritage property. Unfortunately the lake is no more but the beauty of the place still retains its charm. Isolated as it is a an hours drive from Jaipur so no city activity at all. Get togather a bunch of friends or family and enjoy the excellent hospitality of the royal staff. The food is limited although well made. Went there with friends a total of 10 couples and we had a blast. Rooms are elegant , well furnished and huge. Enjoy.

Room Tip: Chose rooms on the first floor facing the garden . Have a lovely view.

This cute place is a perfect getaway from the hustle and bustle of a metro. The location, architecture and ambience all complement each other to transport you into a world far from the madding crowd. Mr Jagat Sankotra and his graceful wife add that special personal touch in looking after guests that give one a near taste of royalty. They went to the extent of reserving a room with two double beds when I confirmed that we were travelling as a family with two kids. The room was very tastefully decorated and well maintained. The luxurious bath with a large oval marble tub added to the royal feeling. The property is laid out on lavish grounds and has a medium sized pool - great for a dip and then simply lazing about. The views of the Lake and across it were very serene and peaceful - ideal for short walks and just unwinding.
I only hoped for a little better fare at the restaurant where the buffet spreads were rather limited compared to other Taj properties. The same was true of other small courtesies that one gets used to with the Taj group. But I guess that may have to do with the size of the hotel and limited occupancy - though I did not understand why the website kept displaying no availability when in fact most rooms were vacant....
All in all a very nice place to break away and get recharged!

It was a perfect weekend. The lodge is 45 minutes drive away from Jaipur centre. Although you do not see any water body from the property, the view is very pleasant. We had booked the deluxe rooms, but were upgraded to the suites. The rooms were big and comfortable, but the pillows not so much. Food was great, service even better. We were three couples and used almost all the activities available on site, lawn tennis, tables tennis, billiards, cricket (they need to change the table tennis bats). Overall, great stay.

Room Tip: Take the one next to the spa, on the ground floor.

4 of 5 stars Reviewed November 11, 2013

My wife and I have recently returned from a seven night ‘Golden Triangle’ tour of northern India. We booked the holiday via The Holiday Place which we had neither used nor even heard of before. Our booking stemmed from a Travelzoo recommendation and I am pleased to say that everything went like clockwork. We were met at the airport by a representative from Sita and this company handled everything from our arrival through to our departure. We had the same driver for the full week but had different guides in the various locations.

Whilst on this tour we stayed at The Suryaa in New Delhi, the Wyndham Grand in Agra and at the Gateway Ramgarh Lodge near Jaipur (all subject of separate reviews). The Ramgarh Lodge was once the favourite hunting retreat of the Maharaja of Jaipur and I was looking forward to staying here. I had read rave reviews about the place and consequently my expectations were high. I wouldn’t say that I was totally disappointed but neither was staying at the hotel the highlight of the tour that I was anticipating.

There was only one other party staying at the Ramgarh Lodge at the same time as us. It was a larger group of adults and young children, however, and I believe that they had more than one room. The children were not badly behaved as such but they were boisterous and very noisy. We stayed at the Ramghar Lodge for two nights and both nights we were wakened by this group. The first night we had gone to bed early but the second night this group arrived back from their travels at about 2am. This is not the fault of the hotel staff of course, it was just our tough luck. The shame of it was that the Lodge has been much heralded as a quiet retreat for rest and relaxation.

Each hotel was completely different to the others but inevitably one draws comparisons. The breakfast at The Suryaa was by far and away the best we had during our tour, not just for the range of choice but also for the quality of food on offer. There were so few people staying at the Ramgarh Lodge that a buffet style breakfast was not practical so our breakfast was cooked fresh to order each morning. The food was nice enough but nothing out of the ordinary.
Our booking at the Lodge was on a half board basis and so we had two evening meals here. We were asked what time we wanted dinner and then a set three course meal was served; both meals were very nice but again nothing exceptional. On both occasions we were the only people in the dining room so there was more waiting on staff than diners. We obviously had their undivided attention but this proved almost uncomfortable. There was someone watching us eat throughout our meal and this lack of privacy also made conversation between my wife and I feel somewhat awkward. We couldn’t fault the service, we would just have preferred it to have felt a little more intimate.

Our room at the Lodge was very nice but nowhere near matched the opulence of the rooms at the Wyndham Grand. During our tour every room we had was equipped with a hairdryer, a fridge, a safe and tea/ coffee making facilities, and the Lodge was no exception.
The Lodge was set in beautiful grounds with a fantastic uninterrupted view of the surrounding countryside. The abundant and varied birdlife was all I hoped it would be and I have taken some wonderful photos.

Overall I thought the Ramgarh Lodge was very good but not quite worthy of being rated excellent.
