“Paradise”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 14, 2012

We stayed here for a month on study abroad. The apartments are nice and spacious with a great view of the Caribbean. The beach is only a couple hundred yards away. The grounds are well kept, and there is a bank and convenience store both within walking distance. There is a taxi stand next door, and a bus stop (to and out of city) across the street. The maids were very friendly! The only thing that could be better is the internet speed, but there are so many things to do nearby that it isn't necessary to be on the internet! Would highly recommend.

Room Tip: B4 is nice and has a great view, as does the villa.

We had a wonderful time there. We were a group of 18 adults and children. Some of us have been there before, but there were a few of us that traveled to Barbados for the first time. The island is beautiful. The villas are walking distance from the beach and we took advantage of that almost every day. The rooms were very spacious and clean. The friendly staff was there every morning to clean the rooms. There were a couple of minor problems with one or two of the rooms, but they were corrected quickly and without any complaint from the manager. She was great. The staff is very courteous and friendly.

The villa is within walking distance from grocery stores, restaurants, shops and a short enough drive from shopping. We felt very safe walking in that area at night also. The balcony was great for having breakfast or relaxing at night enjoying the beautiful surroundings. Each one of of enjoyed our stay and the children were not ready to leave. It was definately a good choice.

Have been to Barbados many times since 1989--generally to stay at ny time share in Sunset Crest. However, when I started a study abroad program there in 2005, Paradise Villas was recommended as an ideal site for our students. Access to the bus line and taxi stand made it ideal for them when they wanted to get around.

The beach is close. Yes, there are derelict buildings around but it is an area undergoing transformation. When the Four Seasons opens next door, I am sure they will clean up the beach even more. Students loved the option of walking down the hill to the beach. They also understood that the concept of "paradise" is relative...so they were able to look past the derelict buildings, the power station and the cruise ships and simply enjoyed the lure of the sea.

They reported that they felt that the units were very comfortable; they valued the sense of community they established with the staff and taxi drivers. They learned to use the bus system to go into Bridgetown, to the Gap and even to Oistins. They do not feel they were disadvantaged because they did not live in the Gap; in fact, they felt that living in the Gap would be a distraction from their real purpose for being there--learning about the culture and engaging in service-learning placements.

In all three programs (2005; 2007; 2009), students reported that they were glad we stayed there.

I had to spend a week in Barbados for business less than two months after my baby was born. I was very hesistant traveling to a third world country with a newborn. Paradise Villas was a dream. I stayed in the suite type cottage which was about 15 feet from the caribbean ocean (a perfect swimming beach). The room was very spacious and clean with a full bathroom and kitchenette. There is an ac but I found it best to leave the window open and get the breeze from the ocean. Even with the windows shut you can hear the waves (which were perfect to lull a newborn to sleep!). There is a grass courtyard with lounge chairs for sunbathing and the cottage had a private porch with cusioned benches and chairs-- perfect for watching the sunrise and having coffee!

Christine, the owner, was amazing and we were treated like family. When our flight back was canceled and we were laid over in Barbados for an extra day—I called to inquire about getting the cottage again for the night for the layover. Not only were we accommodated for the extra night at short notice but Paradise Villas volunteered to come and pick us back up from the airport. What I had feared to be a nightmare of a business trip will be remembered fondly as a great vacation. I would recommend this property to anyone and will certainly be heading back soon!

On a side note about Barbados--- the traffic is similar to a big city--- NYC OR LA, I have never seen an island with a fraction of the traffic. I have driven on the left side of the road in London quite a few times but narrow roads and crazy round-abouts make it extremely difficult for American drivers in Barbados. I heard about two traffic accidents with Americans and rental cars just in the week I was there. The island is not that large and cabs are easy to come by. I would highly suggest rethinking the expensive Bajan car rentals and just cab it

The apartments themselves are fine, clean and not too basic. The location is terrible. The apts are right next to a VERY busy and noisy road and behind is a 'lovely' view of a factory! The walk to the beach is only about 2 mins but you have to walk through a derelict building to get to the beach and there are broken beer bottles, rubbish etc The beach was very iscolated - which some people might like but as vagrants appeared to be living in the derelict building i felt very uncomfortable and stayed at the beach no more than 5 minutes. Once on the beach if you looked straight ahead or to the right, it was paradise but look left at the view of the ugly port and the cruise ships or behind you at the derelict buildings - forget it. having said all this, it is cheap and if you have a car and are happy to sunbathe on the patio you may be happy. It is NOT suitable for toddlers at all because there are loads of steps and no chance for you to relax.
Having said all this, we were moved to another of their properties - Barefoot Bay. This i can say no wrong about! It is in the perfect location - Worthing, next to The Gap - and is a beach front 2 bed apt. It has a huge porch and garden and is perfect for people with a family. We will stay at Barefoot bay whenever we can from now on (at least in the summer months when we can afford it!!).

i was there in 2002, the people were very nice and kind, it is plain but very clean and had everything i needed. i would only say that the foliage outside was a little overgrown. the areas surrounding the apartments were deserted so i always made sure that i went with someone down to the ocean. i was warned by the people around there not to go alone although no one ever bothered me. located off spring garden highway, crossing the street can be tricky as the people drive fast. but i cannot complain about the Paradise Villa. i felt comfortable and welcome there.

Just returned from a vacation in Barbados where we stayed at Paradise Villas in Black Rock. This is just on the outside on Bridgetown as you drive towards Holetown. The rates were reasonable and the place was very well maintained with daily maid service. Beach towels were supplied clean every day. Excellent location for people interested in cricket as the Oval was only 2 km down the hill, just a nice walk. The bus stop was located across the street so made travel easy, as well a local taxi stand was located in a lot next to the buildings so plenty of options if you did not have a car. We did not rent a car and had a easy time going all over the island. One set of buildings, out of three, is adjacent to the road and if you have trouble sleeping is a bit noisy but if you're busy as we were it was not a problem! If you like the night life it is a bit removed from points within walking distance so you have to plan to get to and from areas like the Gap. Based on some places we saw in the Gap and location to noise and traffic we preferred our location and the time it took to get back and forth. Overall we throughly enjoyed our stay.
