We arrived here for a four night stay ans on being shown the room we were to have I was ready to leave. Very few of the rooms here have a decent view. After a lot of complaining, we were allocated a junior suite which was really lovely and with a fabulous view down the garden to the Kizkalesi.

Although the temperature was still in the 30s, there was nowhere to sit outside underneath a parasol. They'd all been taken away for the winter, as had the outside restaurant tables and chairs. It was as tho' the whole place was going into liquidation! Dissapearing as we looked on.

The restaurant - staff canteen morelike, was noisy and seemed unfriendly, and the food was to be found in strange places miles apart. Water at one end, juice at another, buffet in the middle and hard boiled eggs and chips (at breakfast?), were somewhere else. We were on half board and the evening buffet was the mornings leftovers in mayonnaise! I am not joking when I say this and was horrified to realise that I'd just eaten some cheese and processed meat that had been on the breakfast buffet for hours. Even the chips reappeared in mayo for dinner. We gave up and went out after that! Health and safety? Not!

Although this hotel gives itself a lot of airs and graces, there was something rather seedy about it. As if no-one cared. The staff certainly didn't!

The Bararossa has one true star. She is the Receptionist and her name is Havva. She was helpful, attentive, caring and, most importantly, she could smile. If only she were in charge of staff training, the whole hotel would be a happier place!

Room Tip: Only stay in a room with a view of the kizkalesi. Otherwise don't. There are other hotels with g...

I spent one night here in the wintertime. It was quiet and the staff was very helpful in the off season. The room was plain but clean. I recommend staying there in the summer season to get the full affect. There are other hotels in the area that would offer the same amenities for a lower price in the off season but don't get me wrong Barbarossa was nice....even in the off season.

Room Tip: Rooms on the back end have a sea view, very nice in the wintertime..

2 of 5 stars Reviewed April 12, 2012

Be sure that what you see in the pictures that this hotel publish in its website and what you get in reality is totaly different.
We have stayed in April, and were promised to have a buffet breakfast and a buffet dinner. But since we were the only (!!!) guests in the hotel the meals were served not in a buffet style.
The outdoors swimming pools were empty of water, the place was dirty (why to keep staff and water and pay so much if anyway no guest comes).
We wanted to use the gym but some of the athletic facilities were broken.
We wanted to use the indoors swimming pool, but it was half full, dirty and not heated.
After one night we decided to leave.
Staff is very helpful and nice.
The location is nice, infront of the sea and the castle.

Maybe in the summer it looks different.

Room Tip: You will see it from your window if you got luck and only in case you take the suit.

Barbarossa This is a good hotel. Staff on reception was very frendly. The room is spacious, clean. Dinner was good and varied, but the breakfast was worse. I think that it is the best hotel in kizkalesi. I can recomend for staying.

The staff here was very friendly, professional, and quick. The food was fine - they make a large amount, so it lost some quality, but there was a good variety. Great beach access and pool/kid's pool. The beach access in this busy tourist town is worth the stay. Reserved parking lots nearby as well. The wi-fi worked in our room.

4 of 5 stars Reviewed November 15, 2009

Spent four nights here, had planned only three. Booked one suite on the western side of the hotel. This was a little cramped and the WIFI didn't work particularly well. After two days we got moved to the eastern suite and this was much better. The view from both rooms, of the seemingly floating. ''Maiden's Castle'' were fabulous. We paid approximately 130 TLY per night. This included the suite and breakfast and dinner for both of us. Not bad value but if you're a vegetarian or somebody who will only eat vegetarian and fish. This place isn't for you. The restaurant was the only disappointment to the whole stay, Outside of the restaurant the staff were very friendly and eager to help. Unfortunately the same could not be said of the staff in the resteraunt. The food was also uninspired and unvaried. On the last two nights we couldn't take it anymore and went out for our dinner. It's a shame that this let down the rest of a very good pleasant stay in a fascinating and beautiful area.

Official Description (provided by the hotel):
It may have been a whim of the owner, or simply the perennial inspiration of the yachts, fishing boats and gulets drifting past, but the nautical theme of the Hotel Barbarossa is undoubtedly appropriate. Hotel Barbarossa commands lovely views of the Mediterranean inlet that washes the length of the peninsula and carries its myriad fleet of vessels down to the harbour of Kas itself. Barbarossa's pride is its seawater swimming pool, which is set into its surrounding promenade in such a way as to make you feel as though you could swim straight into the Mediterranean. ... more   less
