“Resurrecting historical glory”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 1, 2013

This temple, the epicentre of archaeological and historical cities in and around the Sirpur village, is truly enchanting. The sprawling lawns surrounding the temple will make you behold the beauty of this place. This is most important amongst the few temples here that are still in preserved state.Dating back to 625-650 AD,built by queen Vasata, this is a temple made of bricks and it is considered as one of the finest brick temples of India with a stone door frame. The photograph of ASI noticeboard posted here enlightens about the historical background of this place. There is also a museum here that showcases the sculptures excavated by ASI from surrounding areas.
When in Chhattisgarh,This place must be seen. Every year in the month of January, Sirpur National Dance And Music Festival is organised here when many of the artists of international fame perform here. This temple represented State of Chhattisgarh in RD Parade on 26.1.2013 and secured 3rd position amongst the representations of states.

“This deserves a World Heritage Status”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 13, 2013

The Laxman Temple is located in the village Sirpur in Mahasmand dt of Chattisgarh at a distance of 90 km from the state capital of Raipur. Among the numerous archaeological finding iN Sirpur, the Laxman Temple stands out to the most attractive one. This is probably world'd oldest brick temple surrounded by a whole temple complex. This temple was long neglected but now it is wonderfully renovated by the ASI and the Chhattisgarh Government. There is also a museum in the temple compound which holds some exquisite sculpture of Buddhism, Vaishnav and Shaiva sects which have been excavated in and around the temple compound. There are many other sites excavated around this temple complex and a 3-4 hours visit to Sirpur is a must if you are in Raipur.
