My expectations were belied. Except for the location which gave outstanding views of the Panchachuli Range, everything else was average.
The rooms are spacious but are in need of a facelift - strange for a hotel which is perhaps less than 2 years old. The furniture looks cheap, the doors have cracks through which cold air was coming in, there are no carpets & the curtains are too light to prevent the cold. The only thing good about the rooms are the windows - a view of the Himalayas through which gives the feeling that the mighty Panchuchli is a stone's throw away. You can see it lying down on the bed.
When I browsed through the website prior to the visit it claimed uninterrupted back up power. When we arrived we were told that back up power is only provided between 5pm to 11pm & that during that period no heater or hot water supply can be provided. When I drew the attention of the hotel management to the information given in the website, the contents of the website were promptly amended !
Foe a place like Munsiyari, especially in winter when temperatures go below the freezing point & it is snowing outside, this can be an ordeal. A filament type of room heater was provided which gave the room more illumination than warmth. It was only after a show of displeasure that the hotel management relented a bit & allowed us to use the heater with back up power - though only upto 11pm. To add fuel to the fire (or may be ice to an icecream), there was a power outage for over 24 hours during our stay.
The food was ordinary - nothing much to write home about. The single bearer - a really hard working guy tried his best to satisfy all guests. Obviously that was grossly insufficient. The management staff was rude initially but changed after the show of displeasure.
Besides the room, the surroundings also seemed to need a facelift. There is much room for improvement - landscaping the garden, raising the boundary on the road side to provide privacy etc. which I was assured were in their plans.
Despite all this the hotel management claimed that they were still the best in business in Munsiyari - may they are - but they are far from being a memorable place to write home about
