We attended a friends wedding at Gretna Green, and after a long drive, was hoping to get a good nights rest for the Wedding the following day. However, even though the rooms looked nice, the beds and furniture had been made out of MDF. Solid boards had replaced the bed slats, and the mattress did not make up for the missing springs or slats that normally come with a bed.

They charged extra for a fold down camping bed for my 15 year old daughter who flatly refused to sleep in it, the walls were so thin you could hear your neighbours radio and television. The pillows were of the thinnest foam going, and you needed to use your own cloths to rest your head.

The cost was way above what any normal traveller would expect. The bar prices were extortionate and were cashing in on being miles from the nearest town.

Had it not been a wedding, we would have been out of there in an instant. I can understand the positive reviews that come from the newly weds on here, but all in all it was a highly painful experience, never to be repeated.

We found that the weeding was impersonal and like a conveyer belt, and would advise those who want a normal wedding and have no need to elope, to get married at home. It would be more enjoyable for friends and family that attend.

We defiantley recommend this place if your looking to get married in the area!

The staff- were WONDERFUL they put us both at ease and really took care of you! They answered my questions for months before hand over email/phone! we were concerned before we went that it would be like a conveyer belt but it really wasnt, we were treated like we were the only wedding they were looking after that day- they set everything up exactly the way we wanted it and I was very fussy! Just the extra touches they went to from leaving chocolates and wine in our room to a congratulations card at the wedding- they even made up the very alkward cake boxes and put our cake in them! The whole day they consulted with us/the wedding party to exactly what to do and what we wanted it took all of the stress out of it!

The grounds are lovely, I must admit it rained on our day but there was still plenty of places to take pictures and it certainly didnt dampen our day!

The rooms- the bridal suite is lovely! its large (which you need when getting ready) the other rooms are pretty basic and plain.

The food- was lovely and the guests get a choice of starters and deserts with the meal package which everyone appreaciated!

Value- The prices you see is exactly what it is - there are no hidden charges and so much is just included its excellent value! You do have to pay corkage fees if you want to take your own wine/champagne but you do not pay it until the wines opened- until then they chill it for you!

The disco- dont be put off by the shared disco- by that point everyone is in excellent spirits and you all get the opportunity for a first dance if you want it! the atmosphere was great!

We loved this place we had the perfect wedding and we think our guests loved it to!

I had my wedding and reception at the Forge on 3rd September, and had such a wonderful time. My husband and I travelled down the night before and stayed in the bridal suite for 2 nights and the rest of our family (6), stayed on the wedding night.

Everything went to plan,as the staff are very welcoming, helpful and efficient. My Dad was unable to take the few stairs to the breakfast room, so staff put out a table for him and my Mother downstairs.

We were only a party of 8, and there were 2 bigger parties, so we got the party room, which was just lovely! Plenty of privacy. Table decorations were lovely, and the welcoming photograph of our wedding, was on the table waiting for us...very touching!

The Bridal suite was great and the whirlpool bath amazing. Complimentaty chocolates and sparkling wine on both days, and engraved keepsake glasses.

The Forge is so beautiful, which made my wedding photos all the more special, as are the gardens.

A big thank you to Colin Carpenter for my album and dvd, they are amazing. I received them the next day! Also special thanks to Craig Irving, our piper, who is just wonderful, and gratefully played our requested song. Fiona and June, hair and make-up done a wonderful job on myself and family, and my flowers were from Gretna Flower Basket, and were amazing value for money. Faballoons, balloons were lovely.

Overall, a truly wonderful time had by all, and will most definitely return for our 1st anniversary.
