“Highlight of our trip”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 12, 2013

This was a pretty expensive excursion, but well worth it. For reference this tour is the "KS 16 King crab safari by riverboat to the Russian borderline, with King crab meal".

We went on this tour during July. It was about 3 hours long. They provide warm weather clothing, life jackets and rain ponchos (if needed). Once we left the docks Hans stopped at two crab cages and pulled out 20 crabs for all of us. On the way to the Russian border Hans expertly prepared the crabs for cooking while also being a great tour guide, giving the tour in 4 different languages: English, French, German and Russian.

Once we got to the border they have a very nice picnic area setup where they steam the crab and tables for us to feast on. At first we though that 20 crabs wouldn't be enough for us, but even though we enjoy eating crabs and these were delicious, we couldn't finish it all. In addition to the delicious crabs, they provided white wine and dessert (cloud berries with cream).

Even though this was expensive, it was a fantastic experience and the highlight of our trip. Many thanks to Hans and his team.

“Snowmobile Safari: Simply Superb and Brilliantly Hosted”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 9, 2013

As part of a Hurtigruten cruise on MS Trollfjord (Fabulous) a visit was arranged to Barents Safari and to drive a snowmobile across a frozen fjord.
We were met off the ship by the husband and wife team who run the adventure centre, and transported the few miles with a running commentary about the geology, wildlife and industry and, of course, the fabulous scenery.
On arrival we were immediately struck by the exceedingly high quality of the equipment, from the snow scooters to the safety equipment and clothing. We were kitted out, given an excellent, easy to follow safety briefing (in three languages simultaneously!), and had the snow scooters demonstrated to us. Then we were off across wild terrain, onto the frozen fjord in convoy, reaching speeds of 70 kph on the flat areas, but all the time watching for slush or irregularities - really part of the excitement and sense of adventure. The sunlit scenery, the perfect freshness of the air, the sheer adrenaline rush of the wind past your face as you raced across the ice: absolute, pure pleasure!
The return brought us to a Sami tent, hot coffee and dried reindeer meat, and more stories about the area.
A fabulous experience from beginning to end, made enjoyable and excitement by the owners and their highly professional and accommodating staff.
I'll be back at the very first opportunity!

“King Crab Safari”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed August 7, 2012 via mobile

We've just enjoyed a fabulous trip on a traditional river boat on the Pasvik river. The tour included selecting king crabs from a net, a brief history of the area and a visit to local icons along the river. We then continued to the Norwegian / Russian border to enjoy a simple feast of the delicious king crab. It would be hard to beat such a wonderful meal and the pleasure in cracking a claw and tasting the flesh of this freshly cooked local treat! Thank you Hans and the team at Barents Safari.
