“Great place for families”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 4, 2011

I stayed there for two nights during a conference. The area is a gem in Algarve and a stay at the hotel was quite a self-sufficient package for a couple days of relaxation. The food was OK, but I agree that there should be some more restaurants added to the dinner choices. The pool was good too. We rented bike for 17Eur/day and rode them to Falesia beach, another great experience. There is a play ground for children as well, with a lot of gifts at a small shop. Overall, I guess it may not be the best choice for a conference considering the location, distance from major airports, facilities and relatively expensive internet, but must be ideal for relaxation; esp. couples and families. I had a chance to briefly explore some other hotels in the area, others were more affordable but none appeared to be in the same level of service or indulgence.

We choose this hotel because we were in desperate need of some rest and relaxtion after a stressful period, it was a good choice, from the moment we walked through the door it was such a pleasure, the staff were very attentive, the hotel was very clean with good decor. Our room overlooked the pool and was extremely comfortable, with our bed being turned down each night, the bed linen was so clean, brilliant white and lovely.
We were on dinner, bed and breakfast rate and the evening meals were well cooked, with a good choice of food.
It was a nice walk down to the marina of an evening, but the hotel was equally comfortable if you didn't want to venture out. The bar man made lovely mojito's.

Wow what a hotel this is! We arrived early in the day and were told our room would be ready in 15mins, which we thought was impressive as it was so early. We were then even more delighted to discover we had been upgraded to a suite, which was quite simply stunning. We were pool facing, and I was happy that we had the great view while also happy that with the balcony doors closed you could not hear a thing. The air con was also very quiet. The pool areas are superb, we decided to spend the first few days at the main pool, and the last few days at the quieter adults only pool which was lovely and set back from the rest of the pools. Breakfast was typical Hilton buffet, with a choice of cereal, pancakes, french toast, waffles, eggs, bacon, sausages, hash browns, fruit, salad and lots of fruit juices. We had lunch either at the Ruby bar, or the poolside restaurant, but if you'd rather something cheaper, there is a small pizzeria and cafe about 5 mins walk away by the supermarket. In the evenings there is a free shuttle bus to the Marina, and despite what is said below this does NOT only go 3 times a night. It runs from 7-9 on a non stop basis, and as it is only 5mins away you'll never wait longer than 10mins for the next bus. The taxi back was NEVER more than 5 Euros. The Marina is great with loads of food options from pizzas, steaks, fresh fish, Chinese, Japanese, Indian etc...and prices are extremely reasonable. We have decided we'll be back there very soon to stay again at this wonderful hotel!

Room Tip: Mention you are on Honeymoon if you are!!!

I read all these reviews and don't think I was in the same place as other folk.
Positives: The rooms were very nice and the staff were EXCELLENT. The hotel was very clean. The Spa was beautiful, although we didn't use it. Great for golfers as there are 3 golf courses around the hotel (one closed at the moment)
The pools were very good
Negatives:
1) Very disappionted in the food available. The breakfast was fine, typical Hilton buffet breakfast. The only restaurant open in the evening was a buffet restaurant full of small children. There were no restaurants in the immediate area, the golf club house mentioned previously was closed. If you did not want to leave the hotel it was the buffet or a snack menu in the bar i.e. burgers, cheese toasties, lasagne, not what we thought was 5* food
2) Was dissapointed at times at the lack of cleaning around the pool in the afternoon. Golfers would come in and have drinks and the empty bottles and plastic cup lay about for ages.
3) Hotels' position.... I keep ready about this 15 /20 min walk to the marina. Well I am sorry, we are fit, healthy early 60 year olds. The first time we walked in the morning when the temperature was only about 25* ! it took 40 mins and that was only to the very start of the Marina. That day we decided to walk to the Beach Club for lunch, we thought it would be beside the Marina, wrong it was another 20 min walk in now 30* heat. When we got there it was very disappointing, we were told they only had a choice of 3 types of sandwiches. We didn't go on the beach but the parasols looked very small. There was nothing interesting about the area
The next time we dicided to walk to the Marina for lunch so it was later in the morning. This time it took us 50 mins. It is, in the main, a very pleasant walk but there is absolutely NO SHADE in the roasting heat. In fact we felt the only shade in Vilamoura was the umbrellas round the pool. With it being a fairly new resort there are no old leafy trees.
4) Please note this is a very popular hotel for chindren 0 to 5 year olds at this time of year. Lots of tiny babies crying in the dining. This was no ones fault it just did not suit us.
5) During the day the Hotel transport goes every hour straight to the beach and back with no stop at the Marina. In the evening there are 3 buses to the Marina 7,8 and 9pm but with no return. So the choices are to walk or take a taxi, 5euros before 10pm 6 euros after, each way. We felt a 5* hotel should offer more transport for their guests at this really quite isolated hotel. A bus going to beach stoppng at the Marina would be more serviceable.
6) Have been in quite a few Hiltons, disappointed in this one , don't think on the whole deserves the 5* ticket.
7) You have to enjoy the sound of running water with the pool facing rooms as there are 2 large waterfalls. Fortunately they are switched of at about 6 pm
I DO NOT RECOMMEND THIS HOTEL TO AN OLDER CLIENTELLE

Room Tip: Sound of 2 waterfalls with pool facing rooms

We stayed in the Algarve for just over a week culminating in a night at the Hilton as a treat for my birthday on our last night. Our room wasn't ready when we arrived (early) but we were given a very warm welcome and were able to use all the facilities. The staff were all very friendly and efficient and the service was great. We had lunch at the hotel and a couple of drinks which weren't too expensive considering we were in a 5 star hotel.
However, we appeared to have been put in a twin room when we had booked a deluxe king. Very hard to tell as the beds are close together but we had a single duvet each. Our room was on the first floor just above the reception area and there wasa wedding reception taking place in the evening in the courtyard overlooked by our balcony. It was nice to watch all the speeches etc but later it on it wasn't so nice when we returned after a night. The music was extremely loud even in our room with the door closed! It was also deafening in the recepton area and bars. Spoiled the ambience a little bit but couldn't actually complain about it and get them to turn it down.
Breakfast was delicious with loads of choice. Would definetly return if I got another good deal

Stayed at the Hilton for 9 nights at the end of May and, overall, it was a pleasant experience. Lots of positives but the odd negative. Rooms are modern, clean and functional, and much better than many 5 star hotels where rooms really need updating. The staff were excellent and a real credit to the hotel. If like me you like nice wines, and are partial to a nice single malt, brandy or port, you will not be disappointed as the bar stocks a very good selection of drinks. Expect to pay your typical 5 star price for drinks - if you don't want to, don't stay in a 5 star hotel!

The hotel catered well for young children and there was plenty to keep them occupied. The free shuttle bus to the marina was also helpful. The marina is not quite the stunning paradise I had been told it was. Some impressive boats but when you've seen one 2 million pound yacht, you've seen them all!! A mix of very good restaurants, some not so good ones, the usual sportsmans bars and a strip club just off the main square.

The negatives - well the main one was the quality and choice of food. The breakfast was good and lunchtime meals were reasonable. However, we found the evening meals to be disappointing. Certainly not what you expect of a 5 star hotel and simply not in the same league as a couple of all inclusive hotels we have stayed at in Turkey who cooked on a much larger scale; the Hilton only has 150 rooms not 450. On a positive note, half board vouchers can be used at lunchtime which we took advantage of on four days, eating down at the marina in the evening. The air conditioning was barely adequate in our room for the end of May and would not cope well with mid August I fear.

Finally, the Hilton always seemed to have its commercial hat on and did not have some of the nicer touches that often come with staying at small family run establishments. That said, it is a very good hotel but not a world beater.
