“A lovely hotel”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 12, 2013

Been to Vilamoura a couple of times and love the resort. Decided to try the Lake spa resort this break as quite liked the look of the hotel. Wasn't disappointed. The hotel is lovely. We arrived on Wednesday morning very early. We were given a room straight away and the reception staff very friendly and helpful. The pool area is very nice and we spent most of the first afternoon their enjoying a nice lunch. As some of the other reviewers had mentioned the prices are a little steep but the service is great and the chilled relaxed and friendly vibe of the place makes it worth it. Sun bed were many and unlike some hotels the lovely four poster beds were free for the taking rather than the usual 20 plus euros most hotels like to pop on top of your bill. The man made beach was well designed and the lake great. We didn't get chance to use the spa but was told by others it was a amazing so thats a must on my list for my next visit. All in all yes go for it

Room Tip: We may have had a room with more sun during the day but we didn't ask to be moved as we new we w...

Returning to the Lake Spa resort for a second time I was a little anxious that it would not meet the standards I had enjoyed last year. I need not have worried--the staff and service were just as good and it was lovely to see familiar faces (a sign of efficient management) . Yes you can eat more cheaply in the marina but not to the standard of cuisine in the Lake or the comfort of the in house restaurants. The quality of food and service meant that we only ate at the marina one evening and for us that was enough--back to the Lake!!!
Room service was faultless and every request attended to immediately and with courtesy.
Negative comments would be cost of in house laundry (I made the mistake of having two garments washed and the cost was more than the m@s value!!!)
However I am booking for 2014 (and will do my own washing!!)

Room Tip: second floor garden

We recently went for a week to The Lake. Accomodations were what they should be for a hotel of this price class. Service was impeccable, but we were missing some kind of personal touch. Don't bother to eat at the hotel; there are plenty of better and cheaper restaurants around the marina. We rented a bike for a week, which was very convenient. It saves you plenty of useless and time consuming walking time between the resort and the village.
The quality of the sunbeds at the pool was lousy.

Room Tip: Ask for a room at a higher level.

We stayed in the Lake & Spa resort for our honeymoon.

It is a beautiful hotel, with that little bit of luxury.
We had one of the garden view rooms and it was a very well set out room with a good solid queen size a bed and a very nice bathroom with big walk in shower and nice big bath, with a good supply of soaps, shampoo’s & shower gels.
They come in early evening and turn over your bed and leave a little chocolate on it.
The hotel staff are very helpful and nothing was too much bother for them.
The breakfasts are good enough with a plentiful supply of everything, we had B&B so it was included in the price but I’m not sure it would be worth the €29 advertised at the entrance.
We never ate at any of the restaurants in the hotel as we preferred to go out to the marina but they we're competitively priced with what was available outside.
The pools and sun loungers are good (I found the water a little cold) and you are supplied with towels, there are also chill out beds which I will come to on my few negatives about the hotel,
They have a pool side bar which supply decent enough food at a reasonable price.
They also have a lake (Hence the name) which you can take boats out on, which is nice.
The grounds the hotel are on are quite large with a nice walk through to the beach which loungers are also available on.
We used the Spa facilities once for a Hot Stone massage which was very good if a little pricey.
They also have a well-stocked gym.
All in all we had a fantastic time and will probably visit again.

There were a few negatives though and dependent on how important these things are to you would probably reflect on your view of the place.
The Chill Out beds are virtually impossible to get, even though it says reserving of these is forbidden it isn't policed so I would guess you need to get there the early hours of the morning to reserve a spot.
The Wi-Fi is very weak you can just about get a signal in your room and it is close to impossible around the pool areas.
There were a lot of children in the hotel for September though most seemed preschool age and all of which were incredibly noisy, I know the Portuguese are very family orientated but it sort of took the edge of relaxation at times.
And finally the room hasn't got a coffee maker in it, not a big issue for me but my wife was a little put out by this.

We booked an expensive holiday through Bath Travel, who were the agent for Prestige Travel, probably paid two commissions?
The holiday was B&B basis, at more than £2300 for one week.
Flights went well, taxi good, the hotel we were told by the agent was nearly full, and we had one of the last rooms available. The hotel offers three restaurants, but only one was available due to lack of people staying at the hotel. The room was good as was the staff, the balcony said overlooking garden, well a bit of grass and a hotel footpath hardly seems the same! the food was same menu each night at the hotel restaurant.
we walked to the nearby marina in the daytime, but was advised to be careful at night as there was an unlite section between the hotel and marina and robberies and muggings had taken place there. No very reassuring! As is usual, hotel prices for drinks were expensive, and to crown it all the weather was bad all week, rain and high winds. Never again!!!!
During our stay we found out that we could have bought this holiday for less than half what we paid, that left a bad taste in the mouth.

Room Tip: Go for the rooms overlooking the lake or the panoramic view.

Booked via Voyage Privee web site which we often use -
Arrived around 1 pm room ready and overlooking pools and sea

The good
Friendly staff
Well appointed rooms
Good breakfast
Plenty of towels for pools
Competiitive prices on food and drink around hotel v Marina
Free parking
Staff good at organising cabs hotel bookings etc
Location great - close enough to Marina but quiet and peaceful
Close to beach - nice walks
The bad
Very uncomfortable sun beds - not 5 star by any means
Little or no pool service for drinks etc
Pools freezing and mainly empty
Lacks atmosphere overall
bars / spa / restaurants need better deals and publicity no encouragement to guests to stay in hotel

We paid around £150 per night B&B which we thought good - a large amount of time on our short breaks are spent poolside R& R - sunbeds were terrible - not 5 star and this let our overall experience down - very competitive in the Algarve for hotels etc - needs to take note of guests comments and would improve quickly - we would go back at this price though

Room Tip: Rooms closest to Marina have sun in the evenings on balcony

Our first visit to Portugal and we made a big mistake in choosing Vilamoura,it is not as advertised in travel brochures. It's dire, full of tacky cheap shops, noisy bars, nasty looking cafes, pounding music and shaven headed stag parties and I could go on.
The Lake Resort is in an area of reasonable calm 5/10 mins walk from the Marina, although we did have shouting from the balconies by a noisy group one evening.
Be aware because of it's size it accommodates a diverse range of customers and groups.
The grounds of the hotel were impeccably and attractively maintained .
The reception staff we found to be excellent, helpful and intelligent .
The room was comfortable ,beds firm and super comfy.
You will see from my photos however that the balconies are too close and there is very little privacy.
The cleaning of the room was a problem as a previous reviewer has commented, often not cleaned till after 4pm.
The turndown service at night was done once in seven days, the rest of the time the cleaner came knocking on the door at 5pm with a chocolate disturbing our peace, so I think this aspect lets the hotel down.
Breakfast was fine but very bustling and not much room to serve yourself.
We ate at the hotel every night and the food was good. Fusion was more Italian style and at Mare Nostrum we had a beautifully cooked Chateaubriand. We found the staff to be efficient
There are plenty of sitting out areas although as some have mentioned the sun bed hoggers were in evidence before 8am.
The Spa is wonderful, very professional with a large range of treatments and I would recommend.
This will be our last visit to Portugal,I am sure there are better resorts to stay at in more rural areas but our view has been tainted The only redeeming feature of the holiday was the hotel
which went some way to enliven our stay.

Room Tip: 3rd floor rooms should be quieter
