“Ok but could do with a tidy up”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed September 13, 2010

Ok but not 5 star. Pool area not as clean as it could be - leaves and pine needles not swept up daily. Paint peeling from the outside of the garden rooms, Block paved paths had paving stones missing. Patio to our room not swept. Sun loungers in need of replacing. The whole hotel looked like it needed some attention to bring it back to the beautiful place it could be. I think they are spending too much building new apartments and not attending to the existing hotel. On the plus side we found the staff friendly and the food good (go half board unless you want to pay 30 euros a head in the restuarant or get a taxi into vilamoura every night)

We booked this place last minute for a quick 3 day trip over the bank holiday. A taxi to the hotel was 40 Euro from Faro airport which was fair... We checked in and were taken on golf buggy to our garden apartment (terraced hotel rooms surrounding the grounds). The room was really clean and tidy, looked a little dated, bathroom much better and a real 5-star bathroom. Hit the sunbeds straight away, finding a sun bed was a nightmare, lots of people seem to put their towels out at 6am and dont turn up till 3pm!!! Also, note that at the hotel you WILL pay 4.50 euro for 1l of water, Food was very nice and had a 5star price but was worth it. The buffet in the evening was 32 euro each but was stunning. Walked to the local shop (2km) not a good idea, you get a taxi for 10euro. Well advised to do this if you have kids and cant afford 100 euro a day in water. I would really recommend this place, needs a tidy up here and there, pool needs a re-tile but it is a really nice 5 star hotel in a lovely setting. Would defo consider booking again. Staff were all really nice apart from one woman at the pool bar who was a bit rude, nothing major though.

Visited this hotel in August 2010 with my young family. We stayed last year at this hotel in the Garden Suite, this year we opted for the self catering serviced villas. The villa itself was huge and very pleased with the amenities but a word of warning the beds are very hard and take sometime to get used to. I would say that nothing major has changed at this hotel since it was no longer a Marriott but did notice a few changes, such as paper cups at the pool restaurant bar and no service at the swim up bar. Also just to make you aware that take it with a pinch a of salt when staff or reception say "it will be with you in five minutes".... patience is a virtue sometimes at this place. Also, the fitness centre does not have air conditioning or even it does, does not work properly. Better to run outside!

Supermarket is a 10min walk from the apartments and we also visited again (since last year) our fav restaurant called Paisagem (closed on Thursday) and is just situated literally outside the complex. Try the cataplana, a fish stew with monkfish, prawns and mussels. It is served with rice and chips and definately enough for four people. This restaurant is authentic and we loved it so much went back another time.

The supermarket is a must even if you are staying in the hotel. A can of diet coke in the hotel is 3.50 euros, in the supermarket about 50c. There is also a bigger supermarket in Vilamoura called Jaffers - a shuttle from the hotel will take you into the Vilamoura every evening.

Still a nice hotel but might not go back next year and try something different. It would still be a place I would recommend to friends and family who want a fun and easy holiday.

We had been in Vilasol many times, a few times in the apartments and in the Hotel too. We had been in Vilasol Hotel for a weak, in 2 conneting rooms in main building last weak. Rooms are very good size, large bathroom and terrace and very confortable beeds. Nothing bad to say about rooms, clean everyday, change towles and linen and with everthing like TV, safety, fridge and iron. Bathrooms amenities could be much better, like it was in past, only champoo, soup and nothing more.
Breakfast is excellent, is more a nice lunch! Is really a 5 stars breakfast with everthing live cooking eggs, salads, juices, breads, fruits and much more.
Staff is very friendly, profissional and helpfull.
Pool area is lovely but needs to have more sunbeds ( like in the past), many of then are broken in Hotel garage. Childreen pool is very big and separate from the main pool. There are indoor pool too.
We lunch in pool bar a few times, nice food but pricely.
We never dinner in Hotel restaurant, Vilamoura has excellent restaurants much more
Hotel provides free cortesy bus to Falesia beach in Vilamoura 4 times a day and beach and pool towles too.
Vilasol Hotel doesn´t have free sunbeds and parasol on the beach like many others 5 stars in Vilamoura, you must pay it on the beach and is not cheaper!
Vilasol Hotel is not on the beach and is not easy walking to beach or Vilamoura marina, like I said, Hotel provides free cortesy bus 4 times a day and taxi service coast more and less 10€ each trip.
We like very much our weak in Vilasol Hotel and we will return but, in my opinion, Vilasol Hotel needs to be more carefully with a few thinks, like pool cleaness during the day, pool bar service, there arent waitress in pool area , bathroom amenities, beach club with sunbeds, more sunbeds on the pool, thinks that Vilasol Hotel has on the past and doen´t have any more.

Stayed in the vila sol village apartments, and had the most amazing 3rd floor split new apartment.Fabulous, everything you could want in accomodation for an amazing stay.Roof terrace with ample sun beds, table and chairs barbeque, and lovely space.Weather in August was extremely hot so air conditioning was much appreciated. The gardens and pools were lovely, loads of space, however there was definetly a shortage of sun beds and parasols, which led to towels being put on beds as early as 5.30am,and then not being used until maybe 3pm,so a few problems caused when towels were removed. For the accomodation and prices i think every apartment should be allocated beds that are numbered which i have seen in other apartments privately owned! problem sorted. At times it was actually quite nice to lie on the grass underneath a tree and get a bit of the shade.I travelled with my husband and 7 year old child. We found it impossible to rent a car months before hand and only got a car in the 2nd week at a cost of £517.00.Up until this we had to taxi into Vilamoura which wasnt a problem as long as the taxi came! Staff from the onsite bar and restaurant ordered taxis for us to be met outside, but some people stood at the entrance to the complex further away from oscars bar and flagged down taxi and jumped in. Make sure to book for a specific location away from the bar or entrance to the resort so that you get the taxi you ordered. With a 7 year old and no rental car,you are very isolated here.A swimming pool is not enough to keep a child entertained most of the day,and i started to shrivel up being in the pool most of the day as there werent that many kids that mixed with each other. Thankfully i got chatting to a lovely Irish woman who had 3 children, and my son had great play time with them. The bar and restaurant Oscars was fine for food.good quality and great service, but if you don't drink and don't want to be in a bar with a child, they do have a lovely garden to sit in,but there is quite a bit of noise from the main road outside.Didn't have a great experience in the italian, but they did say 5 members of staff let them down. Loads of customers left, not a good night for all and not cheap if the food had been good! everybody allowed a bad night.Overall apartment was amazing, gardens glorious, food at pool bar really good, deli france on site great for fresh breads and incredible pastries, supermarket had absolutely everything you need, But i missed not being able to walk off the resort and soak up a bit of Portugal without having to depend on taxi or rental car.Definetly need a car while staying here as you really can't depend on taxis.Loved the apartment, loved the gardens, amazing security, staff at pool bar great, but with a child i think i would look for something that had more entertainment for children at night without having to go to a bar or travelling to vilamoura and walking around the marina.Resort gorgeous, probably better for older children who don't need entertained, and for couples who want total relaxation during day and a chilled out evening or late night session at the marina.Wasn't the resort for me with a child, but with a group of girls, who didn't mind taxis, great!

Travelling abroad for the first time with young children we took care to seek a quiet hotel offering good facilities for families within reasonable distance of the beach.
The Hotel Vila Sol certainly provided high quality accommodation, good fresh food, and a quiet and relaxing atmosphere. The staff were very friendly and made the children feel welcomed and at home. The overall standard of service was excellent throughout our stay and the shuttle bus service to Vilamoura very convenient. The childrens pool is seperate from the main pool, was a definite hit with the children but could do with some upgrading..
Would we recommend the hotel to other families with young children?Yes but with the following proviso:
The hotel is located about 2Km from the main entrance to the hotel grounds and golf resort. This means that if you wish to access public transport, the nearest supermarket or the nearest bar/restaurants outside the hotel and resort complex you face a 4Km round trip. We did not have access to a car so we resorted to the use of taxis but at 10 euros for a round trip this makes a trip to the supermarket to pick up groceries and snacks essential for the well being of young children expensive. The annoying aspect of this situation, and the reason we did not give top marks for service is that the Hotel do operate a regular shuttle service to the Hotel Spa which is located at the resort entrance, opposite the supermarket but have a corporate policy not to offer access to this service to non spa users. The staff obviously appeared awkward with this policy which, if reversed, would make the hotel far more user friendly for families with young children and make us more prepared to consider revisiting the hotel or recommend to friends and colleagues.
