“Excellent Value!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 19, 2013

Having read some reviews our expectations were very low but we were only looking for a clean base for a few nights so we felt it would fit the bill.

We were pleasantly surprised. We had a upgrade which meant we had a huge 2 bed apartment. Kitchen facilities, etc were more than adequate. Overall, for the money we paid, we were very impressed. Yes, its a little tired in some parts but when you are paying so little what can you expect. (The kitchen units were actually brand new)

It was very clean and the food in the cafe/restaurant below was of a very high standard. All in all it was an excellent base for the Algarve. A very fair price paid for clean basic accommodation!

Arrived to find reception closed at 11.30pm. Found the bar area and Louis kindly called the receptionist to come and give us our keys, this took 30 mins. Virtually no manned reception area all week.

The room was dirty and black mould spots all over the bathroom ceiling (room 012). It was also on shower curtain...expressed concern to reception and was told it would be cleaned. Shower curtain was changed but black damp still on ceiling which got worse through the week. Towels only changed twice on Tues and Thurs, we arrived Sat night. Tea towel not replaced at all.

Balcony tiny, pool freezing cold.

Bar area closed at 2am on first night...we were chucked outside with our drinks, then another guest complained at us for making noise when chatting. Were told bar closed at midnight. Came back one evening to find bar closed at 11.30pm. Had a pizza and a monkfish dish in restuarant which were both lovely. Louis and the lady were polite but not as friendly as other owners of bars/ restaurants we have met on other holidays.

Beds were solid like laying on a board and two nights ago partners bed had a silverfish on it by his pillow. Couldn't sleep very well after seeing this.

Basic studio room which was quite small. Wished we had gone elsewhere.

Prices are the same as in England for eating and drinking at restaurants, so not really a last minute cheap holiday.

Won't return to Rio apartments.

Room Tip: Not room 012 , didn't have any other room so cannot advise further

Just come back from rio it was ok thats all i can say really ,.
Its old and tired needs updating the kitchens were nice looked new but no plugs 2nd apartment the same will got into that later
Tthe furniture had seen better days was probably new when it opened the wardrobe was that high i had to put things in on as stool the top cupboards i couldnt reach nobody could without a pair of stepladders the beds had boarding on the bottom the mattress had to be pushed up at one side as it had sunk
I had the sofa bed good job there was only me as the other part was only on 3 legs it looked like a 1950s cut down hospital bed with a 3inch thick mattress you could feel every spring .
There was a plug socket when you plugged anything in it came out of the wall this was a new socket but there was angap that i could get my fingers in so god help a child There was a door phone on each apartment door what for i dont know the wires were hanging out and when you picked it up it fell apart

We moved apartments after 4 days as we were kept awake by rowdy drunks as we were over the bar and there was nobody to complain to no night staff luckily on the 2nd occasion a nice gentle man my daughter met in the lobby went and had a word with them and all was well dont know who he was but i would like to say thanks again.
The next apartment was a bit better wow an electric kettle but the plug was about a foot on the floor so we had to get the stool out of the bedroom to stand it on and go to the other apartment to get the extention as there was nowhere to plug the microwave or toaster in .
Would i go again not till its been brought up to date the area is nice but you need a car luckily we did 30 mins to shops 40 to the Marina

We are just back from Rio Apartments. The place is very nice, bargain price and I will definitely go back again. we stayed at one bedroom apartment and it was very spacious, clean, kitchen well equipped, there is gas stoves and everything was working. I also surprised when I saw an iron and electric kettle, toaster, fridge with freezer and microwave (like a wee home). It's kinda difficult to keep a woman moaning but I can't complain at all about the apartments. The guys at reception were helpful, any issues or advises were provided without any hustle and in good manner (should thank them for it)!
Although, Vilamoura is a quiet area and if you want to escape the city's hectic life and enjoy "peace and Quiet" then it's the place. There are not much activities to be honest around the area but we booked a few excursions (browse for the best price around the area before booking it).
Enjoy your holiday!

there were 5 of us that stayed at Rio apartments Vilamoura. One of the girls was in a wheelchair, the only reason I'm pointing this out is because there was poor communication between reception staff and taxi ranks with what type of taxis to send when we were going anywhere. She had an electric wheelchair (doesn't fold up, and we said this everytime to apartment staff) and everytime the wrong type of taxi would arrive. Our apartments were lovely and spacious and clean, one on the bottom floor and one on the 2nd floor with a view of the swimming pool (the one on the bottom floor had a view of the main road). We got clean towels twice a week. the swimming pool area was lovely and there is a kiddies pool and an adults pool, there are two depths in the adults pool for anyone wondering. the restaurant / bar is nice.. not lively but we met some characters around the pool and bar. the pizza is gorgeous and salad huge!, chips not so nice. the staff in bar lovely. the supermarket is just a 5 minute walk down the road, to get into vilamoura marina you need a taxi, only around 4euro or if you don't mind walking 20minutes or so. Vilamoura old town is also just a 10 minute walk down the road and is lovely..well worth going for something to eat down there. The Rio apartments are a bit out of the way, but if you don't mind getting taxi's, walking or chilling by the pool then it's a perfect location as they are affordable apartments.. we found are apartments to be modern and clean. We also travelled up to Albufeira for the day 17euro in a taxi (very cheap) and loads to see and do, went to the Watershow Aquapark (only 10minutes from Rio apartments) brilliant! and did a 4hour Seacave Boatcruise.. recommend it. Booked the Aquapark & seacave boatcruise through the reception at rio apartments. We also treated ourselves one night to dinner on the marina.. an expensive funny experience but worth it!! We would stay in Rio apartments again :)

Room Tip: our friends on bottom floor had view of main road so not sure if this is all bottom floor apartments...

Great little apartment hotel. Not far from great restaurants, Marina or old village. Pool could be better looked after. Room very spacious and at the price I paid I would go back. You get what you pay for.

Just back from 14 nights at RIO the apartment allocated to us was clean the bed linen very clean so was the towels which were changed every 2 days kitchen short of elec plugs other wise good. the chap running the restaurant was a tad miserable and over the top with price, food so so. the flooring round the pool area is rough on the feet some loose paving be careful .there is a super market and a pub at the bottom of the road good value at both. There are no pavements round the vicinity of any hotels not a place for disabled people. Twenty mins walk to the town &marina which is very clean infact the the whole of Vilamoura is impeccable we got what we paid for

Room Tip: ask for a room first floor, the ground floor is shaded
