My boyfriend and I stayed at the Nautilus Apartments during the last week of April 2003. We were both really impressed by the apartments and the staff. We were lucky enough to have a ground floor apartment with a garden, which got the sun from 8.00 am until 5.00 pm, at the far side of the pool. A perfect spot for a bit of sunbathing if you didn't want to sit round the pool itself, although there were plenty of sunbeds if you wished to. Our apartment was so spacious that even if there had been four adults staying there would still have been enough room for everybody. There was plenty of cupboard space for all and the kitchen was so well equipped it was a real 'home from home'. We had a microwave, toaster and kettle. There was also a proper cooker with four electric rings and a full size fridge with a decent size freezer. The kitchen cupboards were stacked full of every possible utensil and piece of crockery you could imagaine or would ever need. There was even a tv set in the living room, although very limited channels and a refundable charge is made by Reception if you want the remote control. The apartments also have air conditioning which provide heat as well as cooling the apartment, but again there is a charge for this of about £25.00 per week payable at Reception. The pool bar/restaurant was really impressive as well. Although not a very large restaurant, the food was always excellent and the staff were just the best (particularly Fernando the Bar Manager). Overall I would say probably the nicest self catering apartments I have stayed in over the years. The Nautilus Apartments are about a 20/30 minute walk (or five Euros in a taxi which you can ring from one of the payphones situated within the apartments and will pick you up from Reception) from the Marina in Vilamoura where all the 'action' takes place. Plenty of bars, restaurants and shops to visit and, although I understand that Vilamoura is one of the more expensive resorts in The Algarve, we were probably only paying the same price for tnd Carvery and the Sete Bar (which is part-owned by the footballer Figo) are definitely worth a visit for a lively and entertaining night. The beaches by the Marina are absolutely beautiful and almost deserted whilst we were there. We were told that the season proper does not really kick off in The Algarve until about June and it can reach as high as 110F (in the shade) during the Summer months. It was probably in the mid-eighties every day whilst we were staying, definitely hot enough for us.Overall I would say a most excellent holiday and a place I would definitely recommend. We are hoping to go back in the not too distant future (although probably not during Euro 2004 as they are planning on building a new stadium not so far from Vilamoura especially for next years tournament).
