we booked to stay at the mourabel four weeks before we went so didnt expect to much when we arrived we was taken to one of the other parts of the complex very basic and the weather was in late 30s it was a nightmare trying to sleep as there was no air conditioning we was in an apartment for 6people and there was only two of us thank god as it was so stuffy i wouldt like to go in july august with little kids. it is away from the beach and marina but there is a courtesy bus three times a day all so a train that takes you the bar isnt the sort of place to relax before your meal and you didnt want to rush back for the entertainement it was our first time in the algarve and wont stay at this hotel again but it was ok just for a cheapy

We arrived here on 17th June and saw 3 apartments in the Parque Mourabel before contacting our tour operator to be moved elsewhere immediately. The photos of the Parque Mourabel bear no resemblence to the apartments on offer. The only word for all 3 that we viewed is "dire". They all stank of sewage, drains and disinfectant trying to hide this. The rooms were sparse and dark with faded, dirty chintzy covers and curtains, the bedrooms were small and dark and the beds were hard and no pillows to be seen, the bathrooms were disgusting and the kitchen areas on the passage from the broken door and 20 years out of date. It was just like some slum inner city tower block.

Go anywhere but here because it will make your skin crawl!

Cant speak for the Oasis but were told most of these were privately owned and timeshare.

There are 3 hotels/apt blocks in this complex and you could be placed in any of them! Parque Mourabel \ Pe Do Lago \ Oasis Village Hotel. We were lucky and had a superior room in the Oasis Hotel. This was very clean and recently refurbished, there was a lovely welcome pack of wine, milk and fruit on our arrival. There is TV (only 2 english channels - skynews and bbc news) fridge/freezer, cooker, toaster, iron and board, hair dryer, 2 X elec fans etc supplied by hotel. The sofa's double as beds (no seperate bedrooms). The apts are spacious and have a dining area and balcony. No problems with hot water or electricity etc. Rooms are cleaned daily and fresh clean towels left each day. The swimming pool was closed but there is one in each of the Mourabel and Pe do Lago which you can use. Sun beds are not plentyful and quite alot are broken. The Oasis bar and Restaurant are also situated at the Mourabel which is only across the road. We didn't actually eat in the restaurant as we enjoyed cooking up our own meals. There is a supermarket more or less on site, a courtesy bus to the beaches and marina that run 9am, 11am and 4pm both there and back - though it only carries 8 so sometimes has to do a few journeys. Transfers from the airport by taxi are approx 30 minutes and cost from 25 to 30 € each way. However if you pre-book in the hotel (with and English gentleman usually situated in reception selling trips) it will be a guaranteed price of 25€. The reception staff are not at all helpful when it comes to giving out information - you literally have to drag things out of them. There is nightly entertainment - Karaoke (Eskimo Al is great), live music etc, but there are usually kids running around too which if your looking to enjoy the show could spoil it a bit. Off site and within walking distance very limited to the Cactus bar which serves larger at 1€ a pint and has football on 24/7 or Parky's bar which is more expensive but a change from the hotel. Prices at the hotel are quite high, for a pint of larger and a martini and lemonade it was 6.25€ at the cactus bar the same came to 3.25€ but if like us you don't like football you won't want to spend all your time there. Taxi to the beach around 4€, to Quateria town (great market) around 5€ The beaches are lovely (though the sea is the ICY atlantic). sun-beds a pair with thatched umberella are between 9€ for half day (til 2pm) or 12€ for full day. Only get half day if you intend getting the courtesy bus back at 4 as very often they turn a blind eye to you staying til 3pm. There are 2 beaches the bus goes to Falesia and the Marina beach - try both. Don't get off at the Marina unless thats where you want to be (as we did) as it can be quite a walk to the beach. I would not go back to this complex as it is too far away from the beaches etc and you either need a car or travel by taxi ( I like to be near enough to just walk along the beach at dusk if I feel like). Having said that, I paid a very cheap price for the holiday and so cannot complain - some people wanted to pay 2* prices and get 5* accommodation - it just doesn't happen. Feel free to ask anything before you go - as like I said previously the staff are not very forthcoming with even the most basic information

“More than adequate”

Parque Mourabel Apartments

May 30, 2008

We have just returned today after staying a week in the Parque Mourabel complex and can with all honesty say I must have been staying in a different Hotel to the guy from Ireland! I booked this as a surprise holiday for my Husband's 40th on the back of Florida holiday and didnt have much money to play with, and quite frankly I was quite worried about what I would find after reading some the reviews. When we arrived we were allocated an apartment in the Oasis Village across the road from the Mourabel, which concerned me as this is noted as accomodation for 3 people and we had 4. I need not have worried as it was more than big enough. One of the beds in the living room did have the back hanging from it and I went to Reception to advise them of this, called into the bar to get ice cream & when I returned to the room the maintenance man was already there making the repairs! My room was spottlessly clean although it did smell damp in the bedroom every now and again. Cleaners came everyday except Sunday & I never had any cause for concern, then again I keep my hotel room as clean as I would my home, so there wouldnt really be any dirt to speak of. The pool was very clean and closed every evening at 8 & you could see the maintentance man cleaning it out every night. We ate in the Restuarant 4/5 times and the food was lovely. Kids loved it. I have to agree with the comments about the beds, there are not very comfortable. All in all the price for the Hotel is more than reasonable. You have to speak as you find and if you can afford one of the more luxury Hotels go for it, but if you are looking for a reasonable, budget option then I'd have to say this is the place.
Around 300 yards from the Hotel is a small complex of bars, resturants, shops. 3 places that are must tries are resturant A Carpa, it is fab but gets very busy so we booked when we wanted to go. A cafe called Cafe Doris which had full english breakfasts and snacks till mid afternoon & again was really nice, and a pub called Parkys which is a lot nicer than the pub there called Cactus Bar which I found very male orientated & bit rough but the beer was 1 euro a pint & always seemed quite busy.
The Hotel staff will happily call a taxi & the cost to the Marina is 4 euro, the walk to the Marina is about 20 minutes and very straightforward. The Marina in beautiful, but pricey so be warned if eating or drinking there. If there are any lovers of Chinese food, the best by far is the Harbour View, staff are friendly and food is fab.
We have had a lovely weeks holiday and our experience of the Parque Mourabel is cetainly a good one.
