“Great late Winter/early Spring location”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed March 8, 2013

Went to Tivoli Marina Vilamoura in late Feb/early March 2013 to get away from the dreary British weather. We were lucky that the sun shone but there was a bit of a North wind so a fleece was still needed unless in a sheltered spot. On a couple of days it was warm enough to eat at one of the many outside Marina bars/restaurants for lunch but with a fleece on. Evenings were definitely inside only eating and a fleece or pullover for walking about were essential.
The Tivoli Marina does look a bit like one of those huge modern cruise ships but its location is ideal for strolling around the Marina or town with lots of choice of restaurants- most were open and we found the best (and less expensive) were tucked away in a square a hundred metres or so to the north of the Marina. (O Victoria we thought particularly good). With some of the other out of town hotels you would need a car.
The hotel is pretty big and very impressive as you walk into the reception. I was told that it was 60% full which for the time of year was pretty good-mostly golfers who disappeared during the day.
The very best part of the hotel is its staff. They were unfailingly polite and helpful. Concierge, reception, restaurant, domestic- all smiling, pleasant and helpful. No mumbles or grumbles when I asked to be moved to a south facing room-very obliging and helpful. Marvellous, and many thanks to you all.
The rooms were very clean and comfortable- great nights sleep in the huge beds-and the domestic staff did a wonderful job. Some commenters say this isnt really a 5* hotel and I would probably have to agree. The bathrooms are a bit dated and the bath/shower space is not huge with no shelf to put shampoo/body wash etc so had to perch these on the edge of the bath which meant they then slid down into the floor of the bath-a bit awkward. Also, the shower head holder was cracked so had to wrap the flexible shower hose around the grab rail. (We were in room 328- I did report this but thought you may wish to know in case nothing has been done)
The bedroom itself was OK-not bad ,not brilliant-OK! The tea maker was not great-semi boiled water also if you wanted coffee the capsules were 2 euros each-needless to say we avoided those-only two English tea bags provided per day (asked for more which we got for a day! -resorted to buying some of our own) All the lighting is energy saving which is fair enough but the bedside lights made reading for more than about ten minutes impossible-fine to have energy saving but for reading in bed something a bit better is needed. Its those touches that dont warrant the 5*.
Breakfast was on a buffet style service with a choice of Continental or cooked "full English"- very adequate selection and friendly, attentive waiter/waitress service providing as much as you want tea or coffee (good coffee!)
Had dinner in the restaurant- the only one open in the hotel at this time of year- which was as good and as competitively priced as most other places on the Marina.
My wife and I used the spa once each-would have used it more- but couldnt fit it in with the other activities we did in the area. Amy was fantastic-thanks very much Amy! Similarly priced to those near us at home.
I was told the hotel was 60% full but didnt seem like it as many of the guests were on golfing trips so werent around during the day so plenty of space in the public rooms. Not sure what it would be like in High Summer- there would be nearly 1000 guests if full and for me that would seem very crowded.
In summary we had a marvellous time at the Tivoli Marina Vilamoura, great staff, good location perfectly adequate rooms. Would definitely go there again-but not in High Summer- too hot, too crowded!

Room Tip: At the suggestion of a previous Trip Advisor comment before arrival I asked for a Marina view room o...

The situation of this hotel is superb, right by the Marina with the beach on the other side of the hotel. We were fortunate to have a room on the sea side as the Marina side gets no sun at all. However the room on the second floor was old fashioned and 'tired' in appearance with 2 cheap plastic chairs and a rusting table on the balcony.Other facilities in the hotel were only adequate, the gym was small and with older machines and no charts or instructions for the weight equipment. The jacuzzi was cold and there were tiles on the bottom which were missing or damaged. The steps leading to the Marina had green algae, weeds and moss growing on them.As this was our first time in Portugal we decided on a half board stay, the breakfast was good with good variety and fresh fruit available. The Chili Pepppers restaurant where breakfast was served has a problem with sparrows flying about,I spoke to a staff member who did not appreciate the hygiene implications of this situation.Dinner for the half board guests was very poor, the menu ran from Monday until Thursday and then from Friday until Sunday. The selection on paper looked ok but the quality was very poor with mushy tasteless vegetables and poorly presented food.We thought that for the second week of our stay we would have a different menu choice but this supposed 5 star hotel tried to serve us with the same menu as previously. We complained and even spoke to our agent about changing to bed and breakfast. We then had a long discussion with a manager and it was agreed that we could choose from the 'a la carte menu'.There was a great difference between the food we were served then and the first week, apart from the last night when I found a piece of what we thought originally was glass but after inspection realised that it was hard plastic in the desert! The staff on the whole were helpful and freindly. Before leaving we completed the guest questionnaire and took great trouble in writing about all the shortcomings I have mentioned in a constructive and measured critique. The management have chosen to ignore this as I have not heard from them since our return even though questions were posed to them.I our view this hotel is not 5 star standard.

Room Tip: At this time of the year try for a sea view.could be quite cold on the Marina side of the hotel.

Having stayed at this hotel on several occasions, we decided that it would be a perfect venue to celebrate my husband's 65th birthday. Believe me it did not disappoint. We requested a high floor and a nice view and that's exactly what was given. The Deluxe Rooms are superb with stunning views of the ocean. Breakfast was so good - exceptionall well cooked and presented. The staff were so willing and always charming - nothing too much trouble. Peppers served astonishingly good food and wine - with 5 star service! The gardens and pools were pristine.
On the evening of my husband's birthday, there was a knock on the door - there was an immaculately dressed chef with a trolley loaded with the most beautiful birthday cake and a bottle of champagne. It was so appreciated - even they were so busy with the golfing tournament, they didn't forget us and made our stay so memorable and enjoyable.
We will definately be back later this year.
Well done Tivoli Marina

Room Tip: All the deluxe rooms are amazing

Just back from a long weekend at the Tivola Vilamoura & we can't praise this hotel enough. As soon as we arrived the concierge was on hand to take our cases from the taxi & up to our rooms, the reception staff were very friendly & check in was straight forward. All of our rooms had fantastic views over the marina or habour & were of a very good standard. The cleaners came twice a day & could not be faulted.

It was my mums birthday during our stay & the hotel sent a bottle of champagne & a cake up for her which we thought was a lovely touch.

Breakfast was excellent as were all the hotels bars & facilities.

Highly recommended

Just back from spending 7 precious nights in this hotel....from the moment we arrived to the moment we left, nothing was too much trouble by the staff. We booked a deluxe sea view room and it was superb. Very roomy, very comfortable and with such a wonderful view....breakfast was delicious, varied and plentiful.

The hotel is perfectly positioned on the marina.....walking distance to everywhere......check out the restaurants BEHIND the marina...so much better than the ones on the marina front....no need for a car if you just want to chill..... Lots of lovely walking and we found a great little bar on the beach halfway to Quarteria.....very laid back and ideal for just relaxing.....

Many thanks to all the staff who made our much needed break VERY comfortable..

Room Tip: Book a deluxe sea view room....

Stay at this 5 star hotel a few times and it is wonderful. Great spacious rooms, all with either a sea or marina views. Situated in the Marina so close to all shops and restaurants. Staff very friendly and facilities great.

Room Tip: Request a marina view, as more to look at from the balcony.

Just got back from a week there, The staff from the Porter's to the Reception Desk are outstanding. We had a 4th floor Sea View, my wife said it was the best view we had ever had.
Everywhere is spotlessly clean. Pepers Restaurant is the best in Vilamoura.
Just one hitch, the lighting in the bedroom is very dull (it needs reading lights fixed to the wall)
We would deffinetly book again

Room Tip: Sea View Deluxe
