“Keith's review.”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed October 21, 2012

My wife and I had a 2 week holiday at the beginning of September 2012. This hotel is not a 4star, I would class it between 2 and 3. The restaurant has a good buffet breakfast and wide choice, and able to dine inside or outside only ate one evening for dinner and again had a good choice. Bar area very good, again inside/outside. The bedrooms and bathrooms were clean, but the sea view that we paid extra for was only a side view.
The pool area was good, plenty of beds but no mattresses which made it rather uncomfortable to lay for long periods. and a lot of flies. The indoor pool and exercise area was very good, probably a fairly new addition. Generally speaking, this hotel needs a complete refurbish, because it must be one off the oldest hotels along with its sister hotels in Valamoura.
All in all we did enjoy our holiday.

Room Tip: A good 15 minute walk to Marina, shops (where you can book trips cheaper than along marina), bars an...

3 of 5 stars Reviewed October 19, 2012

We visited the Dom Pedro Golf Resort for 12 days in September 2012. It is a very nice hotel but not 4 Star. The rooms are comfortable. We paid for a sea view, which in fact, was a side sea view – you had to go out on the balcony to see the sea!

There is one plug in the bedroom where the TV is plugged in – so if you have an IPhone, I pad, camera etc. you have quite a bit of juggling to do! A very good hairdryer is supplied. There is a minibar in a small fridge, which means you have no room to keep any extra water etc. cool. Iron or kettle is not supplied.

Pool towels are available on payment of a refundable deposit and can be changed as often as needed. The pool area is very pleasant and there was plenty of room when we were there. There is a grassy area all around where sunbeds can be placed.

There is no Wi-Fi in the bedrooms and Internet connection is charged in bedrooms. Wi-Fi at reception (which must also be paid for) is a bit hit and miss. There is one PC available in the foyer. Wi-Fi is freely available in the hotel next door – The Crowne Plaza – you can go into the foyer and avail of it! Wi-Fi is also available freely all around the bars and restaurants –so I think it a bit rich to have a ‘4 Star’ hotel charge for it – I think it is free in some of the other Dom Pedro Hotels.

We stayed on a B&B basis – the breakfast was OK. If you want to eat outside you can be prepared to watch the flies having a feast on the cold meats and cheeses – this has been mentioned by several reviewers before but yet no attempt has been made to cover these foods. No proper tea cups are supplied (even though these are in the bar) – so people use double handled cereal bowls! – looks a bit alike a crèche! I asked the manager (man standing at dining room door) one morning if I could have a proper cup and was told “ask the boys inside”! Eventually a proper cup and saucer were brought to me – but not on any other morning.

The dining room staff were very unfriendly and unhelpful. The bar staff were nice. Generally the reception staff were helpful though one or two could be very grumpy. The cleaning staff were excellent and always very pleasant. Entertainment in the bar nightly was generally quite good.

On the day prior to leaving my husband received a phone call offering us a voucher on a future visit. We arranged to meet Dave in the Dom Pedro Portobello and of course, this was a Time Share scam. We told him from the outset that we were not interested but he insisted on doing his whole sales talk. The voucher had many conditions attached – and when we did look at it afterwards it did not apply to over-65s – even though he had asked our ages! – needless to say we are not interested in using it anyway. Incidentally Dave told us that we should have been told that we could use the facilities in any of the Dom Pedro Hotels while we were in Vilamoura.

We stayed 2 weeks from 29th Sept and have just returned.
Firstly I would like to say this hotel is not "run down and in need of modernisation", it is concrete and tile built (as most buildings in warmer climes are) and is not "modern" but is absolutely fine. It is well maintained and the pools and pool areas look like new.

If you are looking for loud music, entertainment, an animation team or a disco, this hotel is not for you. If however, you are looking for a quiet hotel (with the exception noted below), fairly decent breakfasts, a nice pool and sun lounging area and good service then this hotel fits the bill nicely. The rooms are well maintained and well cleaned with fair sized balconies, The pool area and the grounds are spacious and there is never a problem getting a sunbed. The breakfasts are good if you are flexible and enjoy the cold meats and cheeses on offer with a good selection of bread/rolls and decent coffee and orange juice. If you ask the waiters they will organise poached, boiled or fried eggs for you done in the kitchen and brought to your table. We only had bed and breakfast and 1 snack in the bar so can't comment on other food.

The only major downside for us was the noisy corridors and bedroom doors. It is impossible to shut the room doors from the outside without making a loud bang (although some people tried harder than others) and many people have no respect for others in that they laugh, chatter and generally roar in the corridors (which are concrete and tile therefore do not absorb any noise). Many of the guests are short-stay golf parties who seem to get drunk most nights and frankly don't give a damn about anyone else. I know this is mainly outside the hotel's control but most nights we were awakened at least twice by parties of people walking along the corridors at 1am, 3am and sometimes 5am.

Otherwise for us this hotel was great and we would return again. It has good facilities in a good location with only 5 or 10 mins walk to most things. Prices in Vilamoura have increased a fair bit though and I am not sure we will return too soon because of this. If you want to eat cheaper you can walk to Quarteira reasonably easily but a taxi back after dark would be recommended.

Room Tip: Rooms on floors 5 to 8 are best with either sea or pool views from every one.

We stayed in this hotel - June 2011 for 10 days.
I booked 2 rooms - and the hotel honoured our request for the rooms to be next to each other. We had an adjoining door - which made things much easier to visit each other. Nice sea view.
The hotel was very clean - fittings slightly dated. No carpets - which is expected in hot climates. We only had bed & breakfast - the breakfast was adequate, we had a table outside every morning which was great. Swimming pool was excellent, plenty of sunbeds - we spent most of our 10 days around the pool - which was very relaxing (rather than charging around trying to see everything & needing another holiday!). Excellent restaurants within walking distance - especially Romanos & Caddy Shack (cheap food & Sky Sports). About a 15 minute walk to the Marina - good restaurants there too - but more expensive. Beech within walking distance - but seemed to be quite windy the day we visited (also you have to pay for loungers) - so we didn't stay long, and ended-up back at the hotel pool! The Spa was expensive - so hardly anyone was using it. Would recommend this hotel.

Dear Guest,
First of all I would like to thank your preference for the Hotel Dom Pedro Golf Resort.
Don’t quite understand your review, because we have: a selection of salads in the à la carte menu of the bar, we have a selection of salads in the à la carte menu of the Restaurant, in our buffets we have always simple and composed salads, we have always a grill station with grilled fish and grilled meat at the out side at lunch and dinner, a selection of fruit in the buffets and à la carte menus, and at breakfast we have fruit and low fat products.
Portugal is a Mediterranean Country, with a healthy cuisine, and we kept that spirit in our Hotel.
I really like for you to give us a second chance, and I can unsure that we will change your opinion.
Best regards,
Pedro Alves

Just returned from a fab long weekend with a group of 6 ladies, we stayed the same weekend last year at the sister hotel, Dom Pedro Marina and tried to book again but the hotel was full. We all agreed that the Golf hotel feels slightly more up market than the Marina Hotel and has much more indoor and outdoor space with larger pools etc. The downside was that at the Marina hotel there was a free hot tub which we used everyday, this hotel charged 7.50 euros to use so we didnt bother. The rooms were really lovely and comfortable and we requested a sea view without paying extra and got one. On check in the man at the desk was really friendly and also a really friendly lady, other times the reception ladies were not as nice and a little abrupt. The hotel is a longer walk from the nightlife around the marina than the other hotel and this is why we would probably book the Dom Pedro Marina next time. This hotel attracts lots of male golfers which is good in one way as the pool is very quiet during the day, however it can get lound around the bar in the early evening when they all meet for a drink which was fine for us but something to bear in mind if you are a family. Overall had a great time and would definately return to this hotel.

Room Tip: Ask for a sea view room

Flew from Glasgow with Jet2holidays for a week in Sept bed and breakfast.

on the way out literally turned up at GLA and within seconds we were checked in and on our way, flight took off on time and surprislngly i found thier 737's very spacious, is it a colour thing in the cabin or are the seats well laid out, don't know but it just flew by (boom boom)

on arrival check in was effeicent and fast, on looking around the lobby looked very spartan and dull with concrete everywhere, kind of reminded me of cold war Russia, not that i have been but thats what it looked like, put it this way if the weather had been bad it certainally was not appealing enough to sit and have a drink and relax with a book.

Breakfast was the usual fare and filling although the cups for tea/coffee were tiny like expresso cups, my wife who likes her tea started using the double handled cereal bowls for a cup and before you knew it everyone was doing the same.

Around the pool there was plenty of sunbeds, i went to the bar and got 2 plastic cups of syrupy cola and was charged 5 euros!!! needless to say that was the last time i did that as a visit to the supermarket across the road for some cans of coke at 70 cents each which we kept in our room fridge and brought down with us daily.

rooms were well equiped and comfy along with the bathroom, pay for the safe as our patio doors were dodgy and you never know if anyone could have tried to get in.

Villamoura itself is clean and well laid out and i would say a lot of money has been spent on its layout and street furnishings, the marina is the hub and is well served with restuarants and bars of all types although they all seem to charge around the same prices, if you are on a budget you might find it hard as this place is really geared up for the money set judging by the value of the boats tied up which probably amounted to more than the GDP of a lot of small nations!!

Coming back Jet2 lost the earlier raves i had given them as our flight was almost 3 hours delayed which in all my years of travelling is the most I have had to endure, basically when we checked in at Faro, which is not the most comfortable of airports to hang around in, had not even left Glasgow on the way down.

All in all a relaxing break, Hotel needs a wee bit of an uplift though in the lobby area.

Room Tip: high floor overlooking the pool as there was a bit of early morning noise on our side which was 3flo...
