“An excellent place to holiday”

An excellent friendly hotel from the start of our holiday to the end.
There is nothing tired about this hotel, the outside is painted a warm terracotta and in good repair,
We had a 1 bedroom apt on the 4th floor which was very spacious well furnished and spotlessly clean. All the staff are friendly and helpful a real credit to this hotel, our apt had a good view of the casino and beyond to the sea.
Everything is on your door step. The beach and marina are a 2, 3 minute walk away.
We had 3 excellent meals at The Harbour View Chinese on the marina ,
If you want good Portuguese food then go out of reception , turn right to the road , go left , walk past the bars and supermarket until you see a left turn , there is a Portuguese restaurant with real value for money good food, not a toasty in sight.
As it was slightly out of season we had no problem getting a sun bed and there are complimentary towels , you cannot reserve beds with a towel at this resort .
As for the bar it was deserted, a pity as it is a nice room , most people don't want a TV on , nice music would be better , the barman was very nice but the prices are very high and i think this is the main problem, no customers mean no atmosphere .
I would highly recommend this hotel.

“Disappointed”

Arrived at the hotel to find the pool being 'cleaned' and so was out of order until the end of July (we were there in June!)
Main entrance to the Portobelo was covered in scaffolding. The smell of paint thinners and paint were strong at times to say the least.
It is not acceptable for towels to be hung over balconies however, it is acceptable for painters to cover your balcony with dust sheets as they paint away merrily.
The staff (and the painters) at the hotel were however very friendly.
Our travel company did not inform us of any of the renovations, unfortunately I cannot reveal their name!!
Anyhow, the Portobelo was not serving breakfast ,so not only did we use the pool in the Golf Hotel during the day, we also had our breakfast there. Please note if going for breakfast in the Golf Hotel, it's better to go later in the morning to avoid queuing!
Eating out - nicest eateries to be found in the square behind the marina front.

“Just what I expected - Lovely holiday”

Dom Pedro Portobelo

We read the review on Portobello before we went so as soon as we got there checked out how close Dom Pedro Golf was (just over the road) as we were informed to use their facilities as higher grade hotel. The staff at Portobello were exceptionally friendly and helpful, the restaurant at portobello is in the middle of a refurb so used Golf the whole time. So close for all amenities you could possibly think of, and very friendly - highly recommended at a cheep price as long as you don't expect the ritz - clean and comfortable. Portobello Golf has a lovely pool and gardens to relax in make use of them.

I stayed at the Dom Pedro for seven nights and was very pleasantly surprised. I booked through lastminute.com and got a really good deal.
The hotel is really well situated, across from the casino and just a few minutes walk from the beach/marina.
The room was quite large and very clean and the kitchenette well equiped, although we only cooked once.
We were told that we had to go over to the Dom Pedro Golf for breakfast every morning, where there was a breakfast buffet with a good selection.
There were some renovations taking place while we were there but with very little inconvenience to us. We only heard banging one morning and it wasn't even too early.
Basically I couldn't fault the hotel, especially at the price we paid!

I had 7 days of staying at the Dom Pedro Portobelo, and enjoyed all of my days there. The staff made it easy, and welcomed you every day with a smile, and they were professional and courteous, helped me book a car, and even confirmed my flight for me the day before I left. The apartments were clean and lovely and we overlooked the pool and the ocean. The only complaint that I would have is that the casino (across the street) can be very noisy at night, so close your doors before you go to bed, and you will have no problem.
I would stay here again.
