We arrived on thursday and left on sunday, and lived in one of the Rorbuhouse. We had a great time here. Our house was with 2 bathrooms and 2 bedrooms. It was big enough for 4 people. We where on a businesstrip, but since it was world champinonship in codfishing it was like an big event. Lots of people all over, both during the day and night. It's not the cheapest place but it worth it .. the nature has to be experienced, it takes the breath of u :-)

- Lamholmen has been inhabitated since the early 1800`s. There were several fish-companies, fish treatment factories, a barrel factory and "rorbuer", barns and houses. This all led to hectic activity on the island, where they produced Stockfish and salted fish on the little island in the middle of Svolvær harbour. Cod from Lofoten was hanged on so called "hjell" or salted and preserved in one of the quays. From the quay the finished products was packed and exported abroad. The Stockfish was mainly exported to Italy, while the salt fish went to Spain, Portugal and Brazil.But the operation on Lamholmen came to an end in the beginning of the last century, and years of hard weather began to mark the buildings. Decades of salt water and sun put its markings on the buildings - without anyone caring.The first "rorbu" built on the island was originally number 53. That same building still stands to this day. It was the first to be restored when Anker Brygge was raised in the early 1990s. It is one of the oldest buildings in Svolvær harbour, built early in the 18th century. Today it bears the numbers 213 and 214, two of our most popular rorbusuites!The original quay still stands and is today our main building, housing the bar and our well renowned restaurant "Kjøkkenet". We also have our offices there, and it houses three gorgeous suites on the top floor.The quay and the "rorbuer" are all carefully restored - without compromising the old craftmanship and timber. You can really feel the atmosphere from the old days in all our rooms, the thick beams and walls.You can still get a feeling of the era when the fishermen came to Lofoten in small boats with oars and sail. ... more less
