“Wonderful stay”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed May 4, 2014

We arrived on thursday and left on sunday, and lived in one of the Rorbuhouse. We had a great time here. Our house was with 2 bathrooms and 2 bedrooms. It was big enough for 4 people. We where on a businesstrip, but since it was world champinonship in codfishing it was like an big event. Lots of people all over, both during the day and night. It's not the cheapest place but it worth it .. the nature has to be experienced, it takes the breath of u :-)

We spent a week in the one off the Rorburhouse. We had a great time here. Our house was with 2 bathrooms and 2 bedrooms. It was big enough for 4 people. We were with 2 friends and had enough space inside. Our house faced the water. The first days we had breakfast at the hotel Rica because we were the only guest at the time. When there were more guest we had breakfast at the pub. We read about the breakfast that the choice was not enough, but we dont agree with that. The choice was far enough and it tasted good. The last day we had to leave early and drive back to Evenes airport. We were called by the reception that we had to take our time, because it snowed heavily that day. And because we had to leave so early we could not have breakfast in the pub, but we were given breakfast in our house. When we came back to our house that evening our fridge was stocked with, bread, yoghurt, cheese, ham, salmon, fruits, eggs and milk and juice. So we have to say thank you Anker Brygge, it was great!
We had a very nice stay in the Anker Brygge, it felt a little bit like home
We also had the privilege to see the northern lights one evening, right in front our house.

Room Tip: Ask for a house facing the water

Maybe not the best place for business stay, but definitely experience as small buildings are built basically to the boardwalk, so the sound of waves is very comforting during the nighttime. One apatment had large living room and 3-4 bedrooms, some of them sharing the bathroom. My double room was extremely tiny and without any room for clothes or luggage, so I can't imagine two people sharing the room. Definitely a place just to crash after outdoor activities, as there is no tv or other modern facilities in the room (except living room with kitchenette and tv). But if the intention is not to sit in the room, it works well, as there is large meeting room in big building and lovely restaurant. Local pub has karaoke nights which may kill many nice songs for you, but same time gives good understanding of local entertainment.
Lofoten is all about fishing and there are lot of activities by the sea and on the sea - fishing, sailing, rafting etc. Living is pretty rustic in Lofoten and Anker Brygge gives a glimpse of it.

Room Tip: Bedroom on a second floor, facing water, is perfect for good night sleep.

A group of friends and colleagues, staying nearby, turned up at this establishment without a booking and were pleasantly surprised. A warm welcome and decent menu. OK, with the sterling to kroner rate being what it is, the meal was not cheap BUT I would not have ordered pizza if I had any inkling of the size I was going to receive...

We stayed nearly a week on this complex because svinoya was fully booked. When we came late evening from hurtigruten and the tecrption was closed. But the room was excessively grand. The restaurant famous en for norwegian cocumstances moderate prices. And, very imprtant, aker is close to the city centre and hurtiguten- pier

Thoroughly enjoyed our week-long stay in a 2 bedroom/2 bath "rorbu" on the pier. The rorbu's are built like a duplex with a unit facing the water and another behind it--ours faced the water. Was great to sit and watch the fishing boats leave, the late/early morning sunsets, and listen to the seagulls. The restaurant is one of the better ones in Svolvaer and the tavern was certainly the most active in town. Location is an easy walk to the town center. Breakfasts were simple but typical with eggs, lox, hearing, meats, fruit and, of course, waffles. Rorbu was very comfortable and well cleaned each day. Staff was friendly and helpful in suggesting hikes and assisting with reservations and information regarding activities. Other hotels are more "modern" but if you are going to the Lofoten Islands, Anker Brygge is a good choice for a more "authentic" experience when staying in Svolvaer.

Room Tip: Request a room facing the water.

Svolvær was the most beautiful place that I have visited in Norway. Hotel Anker Bryggen is a very charming hotel located on the water. The rorbu (chalet) accomodations are very typical and I just found it very special to stay here. The red wooden houses are charming. The furniture is simple but okay. My bed was comfortable, the bathroom nice but for the price I have paid I would have liked to have a bathtub. The living room contained a small kitchen. All in all the windows are sort of small, there is not much sunlight inside the houses. The furniture is quite dark, I would have decorated them a bit friendlier...
The staff at the reception is very friendly and helpful, they all did everything to make me having an unforgettable stay there. I felt at ease here and would love to come back. There are bigger and more posh hotels in Svolvær, but they are too modern and lack of charm. Anker Bryggen is very charming. The rate is very high, but all over in Norway things are very expensive. But this is a SPECIAL hideaway and therefore I will go back there one day.
Breakfast well, other reviews said that they expected more of it. I must agree. At 09.30hrs in the morning many plates on the buffet were already empty. There was no staff around for a much too long time...

Official Description (provided by the hotel):
Lamholmen has been inhabitated since the early 1800`s. There were several fish-companies, fish treatment factories, a barrel factory and "rorbuer", barns and houses. This all led to hectic activity on the island, where they produced Stockfish and salted fish on the little island in the middle of Svolvær harbour. Cod from Lofoten was hanged on so called "hjell" or salted and preserved in one of the quays. From the quay the finished products was packed and exported abroad. The Stockfish was mainly exported to Italy, while the salt fish went to Spain, Portugal and Brazil. But the operation on Lamholmen came to an end in the beginning of the last century, and years of hard weather began to mark the buildings. Decades of salt water and sun put its markings on the buildings - without anyone caring. The first "rorbu" built on the island was originally number 53. That same building still stands to this day. It was the first to be restored when Anker Brygge was raised in the early 1990s. It is one of the oldest buildings in Svolvær harbour, built early in the 18th century. Today it bears the numbers 213 and 214, two of our most popular rorbusuites! The original quay still stands and is today our main building, housing the bar and our well renowned restaurant "Kjøkkenet". We also have our offices there, and it houses three gorgeous suites on the top floor. The quay and the "rorbuer" are all carefully restored - without compromising the old craftmanship and timber. You can really feel the atmosphere from the old days in all our rooms, the thick beams and walls. You can still get a feeling of the era when the fishermen came to Lofoten in small boats with oars and sail. ... more   less
