“Comfortable and stylish, free parking, overlooking the sea”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 26, 2014

Very well designed and comfortable hotel with indoor pool. Rooms spacious, we had a bath, and tissues were provided. Wifi thoughout. Restaurant on third floor (with view) allows eating inside or out. Food was creative and good, with a reasonable choice although the briefings were a bit pretentious, and portion sizes were moderate. Decent range of wine too. Breakfast was more basic than we would have thought given dinner quality.
It is isolated, and a fair way from Den Helder, so you are a bit marooned, but close to a major lighthouse and an historical fort.

Room Tip: Some rooms are on the ground floor, so if that helps, specify these. To get a sea view you would nee...

The hotel has nice, comfortable rooms. Staff is friendly. The bar and restaurant on the topfloor are great. Unfortunately the breakfast offered is far below average. That is really a pity. The environment is beautiful, close to the beach and close to the city of Den Helder.

Very friendly staff who always provide a warm welcome. pleasant and comfortable rooms some with a balcony to sit and enjoy the sun. Has a swimming pool but I have not tried it. Rented a bike from the hotel and had a great time cycling on the mainly level cycle routes. Food is to the high standards one would expect from this grade of hotel.

Room Tip: A lot of stairs internally. If these are a problem let them know in advance to get a room closer to...

Nice rooms, friendly staff and a beautiful location to escape the hustle and bustle and show the beauty of Holland

A little pricey and uncomfortably over the one hundred euros. Seems they took no notice of the breakfast comments. At 90 euros i would be singing its praises but it is just too expensive for what is on offer thus it gets an average rating

If you like a pool and a sauna, instead of the gym, and the company is paying, this is a great place.

3 of 5 stars Reviewed April 26, 2014

The Grand Hotel Beatrix is situated in the small hamlet Huisduinen a couple of kilometres west of Den Helder. The location is very close to the impressive (and enormous) dyke that offers a magnificent view over the North Sea and island of Texel.
The hotel must be rated overall as an average hotel. The hotel staffs were very friendly and helpful. The layout of the hotel included several levels with narrow staircases not serviced by elevator. Guest with a disability may have problems - unless they manage to get a room close to the single elevator.
The room was OK in size with fine flat screen TV, complimentary WiFi and a well filled minibar - but it lacked a couple of features that you would normally want for a few days stay. I would have appreciated a coffee brewer, a safe deposit box and an ironing board (and iron) in the room.
The bathroom was newly refurbished and fine - but it lacked a shower curtain. Female guests would probably also have liked a hair dryer in the bathroom.
With regards to the cleaning standard there was room for improvement.
Breakfast was average with a decent selection. However, a downside was the coffee that was made on a machine where it was not possible to get decent black coffee (like normal filter coffee).
The hotel is OK for the average traveller on the precondition that expectations not be set too high.

We spent 4 nights here and had probably the best room (no 5) but only realised this when we tried to change for a better room! It has a balcony but too windy to sit on it and not high enough to see over the dyke fully. When we arrived we had to fix two lights which didn't immediately work and even then, there was not enough light. Even the bathroom was not lit properly so there was nowhere to do make-up after dark. The bathroom needed upgrading although the over bath shower was adequate.
The pool was nice but the changing rooms were dire.
The hotel advertises a posh restaurant (C'est la Vie) and a bistro. Only the posh restaurant was available and we were there at Easter weekend. We could have dined at the restaurant but the menu didn't suit and it was pretty expensive. Apparently the bistro is on at the weekends but for some reason not Easter!
The staff were lovely, breakfast was good but the hotel was quirky, feeling more like a gentleman's club.

I have been staying at the Grand Hotel Beatrix for over 10 years. The rooms are very nice, the staff is very friendly. They have a great indoor pool and saunas. After a few days the staff considers you one of them. You really feel special when away from home. There is no other place to stay in Den Helder as far as I am concerned! Stay and enjoy.
