“Keep going strong”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed June 30, 2013 via mobile

I recently celebrated my upcoming anniversary here with nearly 40 business acquaintances and friends. After some rocky patches and changes they re definitely finding their feet again with A new couple looking after service and hospitality and the unbeatable Paul Fagel still very much in control. He is inspiring a young kitchen crew who went all the way at my luncheon: foie gras with rhubarb, sea bass and coquille and samphire, bavette with port sauce and asparagus and more... The whole event was a feast from planning, booking to indulgence. On this very busy day they gave 40 'spoiled' diners an unforgettable experience - chapeau!

“Totally disappointing”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed June 23, 2013

It was our 25th wedding anniversary. We decided to eat out with our children (17 and 13). Het Arsenaal was cold in atmosphere, the food just ok, but over represented. The waiting times were too long for a quiet Sunday evening. When my husband mentioned that the waiting time was too long he was told this is " normal" and given absolutely no apology or understanding. It is different if a guest chooses to linger over dinner but we arrived at 6.30 and left at 9.30 - disappointed, angry and feeling ripped off. If you want a relaxed restaurant experience, a special meal, a good atmosphere, professional staff and ambience keep away from Het Arsenaal, Naarden - it is disappointing, totally mediocre and boring.

“Stylish, but too expensive”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed October 29, 2012

The Fagel family has given rise to several reputed restaurant chefs, and we visited "Het Arsenaal" led by Paul. This restaurant is located in the old fortress city of Naarden, and features modern French cooking. Whilst the food was very good and tasty, and the service friendly, we considered the prices too high, even for a more formal restaurant like this.

“Beautiful setting”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 19, 2012

very picturesque. Great food/wine - highly recomended. The location is ideal with a lovely little canal close to the entrance. It's located in a very peaceful and elegant neighbourhood and has attractive indoor and outdoor facilities.

“Noblesse oblige - dissapointed”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed May 30, 2012

Het Arsenaal is known in Naarden (and beyond) as the "upmarket alternative" with good food etc. The problem is, this creates expectations, and unfortunately in our case we were disappointed. The atmosphere on a warm summer evening was excellent, the people were nice. But we had to wait one and a half our for our main course (we had booked beforehand), and the food was mediocre. Not bad, but then there were the expectations. And the price.
We were four people. First we had to wait 15-20 minutes before even getting the menu. One of us wanted a starter, the others did not. The starter finally arrived after one hour. After he finished, another 20 minutes of waiting. When I made a remark about it the answer was that you must expect that with the starter taking some time. Ok, but the main course was just the "menu of the day", fish. This was reasonably good, but not more.
The Sauvignon Blanc was excellent, and the desert also reasonably good. But all in all I think you can get a better dining experience at 50 Euro per person.
