“Fun filled holiday”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 25, 2014 via mobile

My husband, my 2 year old and I stayed with Eurocamp at Duinrell for 5 nights. As soon as we arrived, I instantly regretted not booking a week! This was used as a stop-over holiday from travelling somewhere else to Calais. We made the right decision! The camp is approx 3 hours from Calais. Anyway, the camp is massive with the theme park and tikibad (water park) situated in the middle of the camp. The theme park is free to residents but the tikibad is 3.5 euro for 2 hours which is a bargain! There seemed like lots of rides for the older kids to go on but we did struggle to find suitable rides for our two year old. There was plenty of play parks for her to play in so she was happy. The shop on camp was well equipped but we used the local supermarket in the town and restaurants there. We also made a visit to the beach which was great (5 euros to park all day). We went into Amsterdam and used the park and ride at the olympisch stadion. Google it before you go as it's not as standard as park, hop on the bus and go. We paid for 4 days WIFI use on the camp which was 18 euros. This can be bought in the shop on camp. Overall, we had a great time and I would most certainly return when my little one is a bit bigger.

We've stayed at Duinrell twice, and we just can't complain. On arrival it's a bit tricky as your not sure where to park, as you are merging with all the theme and water park traffic. The park itself is great for families of all ages. We stayed with eurocamp and the caravan was clean and enough space for 4. The highlights for is are: wassannar - a short walk or drive (use the underground car park) with a good supermarket, shops, 3 italian restaurants, and not forgetting the ice cream shop - you can't miss it! The theme park - big enough to walk around for half a day, and not busy so you can get on all the rides. Leiden - 1 hour away, university town with canals and historic buildings.

We are just back from a 2 week stay at Duinrell. We are a family with 3 children aged 13, 11 and 9. There is so much for the children to do here. We have been at a different campsite every year for the past 10 years and this one is definitely one of the best. Our children loved the theme park. It opens from 10 to 6 to the public but is free to anyone staying in the campsite. It is nicely laid out with a variety of rides - something for everyone. The best thing about it was that although it closes to the public at 6 and the rides are closed too, the playground facilities (2 really large playgounds) in the middle of the park are still open. They also opened the trampolines and bumper boats to 9, though that may just be high season.

The tiki pool was great. About 10-12 different slides, some of which are height restricted and fairly fast! It is great if the weather is poor. We had 2 days of torrential rain but for the rest of our stay, the weather was really pleasant - about 23/4 degrees. It does get very busy though.

We didn't hire a car and used public transport which was so straightforward. We visited Leiden, Delft, Amsterdam, the Hague and Maduradam. All worth a visit. Most bus journeys are 4/5euro but you can buy a card which you top up with credit and use that to pay getting on the bus. You swipe it again getting off the bus and it gives you a discount. On most of our trips the discount was about 1.50 to 2 euros each way. This adds up when there are 5 of you! You can buy the cards from the local C1000 at the vending machine. Each card costs 7.50. This includes a 2.50 admin fee and 5 euro credit. You top them up at any train/bus station. They are a bit funny taking payment with cards though and we often had to use cash to top up. Definitely worth it if you plan to use the bus or tram a lot.

We shopped each morning at C1000. It is 5/10 min walk from campsite and so much cheaper than the campsite supermarket. It is shut on a Sunday. Also, it has free wifi so we never had to pay for the campsite wifi. The town of Wassenar is lovely with some really nice cafes and shops. We got takeaway pizza from La Scala which was so much nicer and cheaper than the campsite pizza!

We stayed in a 3 bedroom Espace with Eurocamp and it was in a lovely quiet, private part of the campsite called Middle field. It was well kitted out and clean and fresh.

Our children loved this park. They spent hours each day at the playground and theme park. There are bikes and go-karts too which you can hire. Would definitely recommend this park.

Just had to review this place. Booked it a few months ago as was half the price of centre parcs including travel (overnight ferry from Hull to Rotterdam). Static caravan which felt a bit cramped at times but on the whole we mainly ate and slept there. The rest of the time we were out having fun!

Four of us went including daugher of 6 and son of 4, park is only 45 mins the other side of Rotterdam from the ferry and relatively easy to find. We went straight to the amusement park (including in the price) and couldn't believe the size of it and scope of the rides! My daughter was over 1.2m and could go on all the rides, there was only two that my son couldn't go on much to his disappointment! But there was absolutely loads to do - 3 rollercoasters, log flume, carousels, bumber boats, trampolines, bumper cars, tobouggan, massive soft play area, go karts, huge slides, two big play parks, crazy golf etc etc. Yes, it was busy as school trips were on but queueing time was never more than fifteen minutes for the bigger rides, the tobouggan was about a half hour wait though.

WIth regards to the onsite waterpark, we went three times, 3.5 euros each for two hours was about enough but be careful it includes changing time so don't dilly dally. It was only an extra euro each for an extra hour, we did pay this once of the three times. Under fours went free. There about 10-12 flumes and the kids could get on about half of them, you needed to be over 1.5m for the bigger flumes which was fair enough as I can honestly say you they were very fast! Lazy river as well which the kids could go on was decent. Great fun and we thoroughly enjoyed it. The outside pool was open when it was really nice weather but we didn't bother with that.

You could eat mainly burgers, sausages or pizza in and around the park, wasn't extortionate when you compare what you get charged at theme parks in Britain but we mainly ate at the caravan to save pennys.

Re food shopping, there is an Aldi in Wassenar, literally a five minute drive tops and you could walk it. There is a shop on the campsite, more expensive than both Aldi and the C1000 shop in the centre of Wassenar but again not extortionate. The onsite camp shop does fresh bread throughout the day and there was nothing better than getting a warm baguette for breakfast lunch and tea!

I would thoroughly recommend taking in the ice cream at Luciano's in Wassenar. delicious and at 1 euro a scoop not extortionate.

4km away is the beach, glorious on a sunny day! WIndy so I'd definitely recommend taking a kite and having some fun but we had two days where it was 30 degrees and the kids loved it, sandy with a layer of washed up shells at the high tide point to walk over but other than that gloroius. Not sure how clean the sea officially is being so close to the oil industry and ports but certainly didn't look filthy and there people surfing. Yes the water was cold but it didn't stop my daughter playing in the sea from the moment she got there until she left.

Overall it was just great, may consider a 'duingalow' next time for a bit more space despite being a bit more expensive. I would also recommend taking table tennis bats and balls as there are a couple of tables. I wouldn't hang your hat on the entertainment as it was pretty poor so would just recommend board games. We will definitely be going back.

Went on a Camping and Caravanning Rally- but will definitely return. Great campsite- but it's huge! Excellent is you have children or are a kid at heart 'cos the fun fair and outside pool are free. You have to pay for the indoor pool, which is a water park rather than a swimming pool. Free entertainment on site- but it's in Dutch. Close to the beach and a bus runs outside taking you to Amsterdam which is about 30 miles away. One of the big bonuses for us, as motorhomers, was that you walk directly into the village of Wassenar- which has 3 supermarkets- one being an Aldi. As usual campsite shop more expensive- but they always are. Drinks expensive- but it's Holland- so we sat outside and had a few, chilling with other campers. If your on a budget and coming from the UK- you can travel via Hull, Dover etc or use the Eurotunnel- it's about 4 hours from Calais. Will definitely go again- even without kids. Showers spotless and launderette too.

Room Tip: Ask to be pitched near main facilities- because the campsite is huge

The caravans are very closely packed and even though it's a family park the noise is just phenomenal until 11pm when there's a curfew. There's no protection from noise from the thin tin walls and there are kids screaming, kicking footballs at the caravan, driving go keys up and down and their parents SHOUTING at each other just millimetres away from your head.... Till 11pm. It's like trying to sleep lying in the middle of a kids play park. Which might be fine for other people's kids but we have a 2,5 and 7 year old and 11pm is a struggle, especially after a long travel. Spoilt entire holiday. Kids were crying because they were so tired and just wanted I sleep but you can't ... You HAVE to wait be cos it's a damn zoo.

We just spent a week in Duinrell, staying a Rossini Riviera from Thomson Al Fresco and had the most amazing time.

This was our first ever holiday at a campsite abroad and we were super impressed with the mobile home. It had everything we needed, the beds were surprisingly comfortable and was the perfect size for us and 2 kids (7 and 1). The Alfresco reps were brilliant too, always happy to share a smile and give info whenever we asked.

The site itself is brilliant - the kids had an absolute ball. We were located in the Middenveld, which was perfect for us. Few min walk to the plaza, bike hire and park. Hiring a bike is a must, we all really enjoyed our early morning bike rides around the site, and was a great opportunity to take pics within the theme park when no one was around. The theme park was such good fun, queues were minimal, except for weekends and even then it was no longer than a 10 min wait. We must've ridden the coasters at least 20 times a day lol.

Tiki bad was very busy at times, but we did find that it was fine if you weren't wanting to do the slides. It was defo quieter during the week. Pay attention to the previous reviews about the changing rooms, they really are tiny - however perfectly manageable. And if you're a dafty like me and can't figure out how to close the changing room doors, my 7 year old figured it out. There is a little wooden strip on the seat in the changing room. Close the doors and flip this down and that's your doors locked. There are plenty of seats poolside as well, so if you have little ones it's sometimes best just to get them organised through there. I certainly got my 1 year old ready at poolside as it was more spacious than the changing rooms.

C1000 is the best supermarket in Wassenaar and is super easy to find. We did pop into Aldi but found it not as good as C1000. That being said, the onsite supermarket was excellent too and wasn't that much more expensive than the local supermarkets.

All in all, we had such a wonderful time, we've already booked for next year. It was the only place we've been where my eldest actually cried when it was time to go home. All I would say is if you can, go longer than a week, as it flew in and we only scratched the surface of things to do in the local area.

Room Tip: Middenveld is a good location if you want to be close to plaza and theme park. Site is very large s...
