“At first I wasn't sure, but turned out to be pleased with stay”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed August 23, 2013

This inn was booked for us by the tour company. When we first arrived, I was disappointed that the hotel is not right in the downtown area. It is only a five minute bike ride, but I was expecting to be right in the town. From the outside, the hotel seems a bit outdated and run down. The hall to the rooms also did not look nice at all, and I was not pleased when we first checked in.

I do have the say the room was actually nice, with comfortable beds, and great wifi access in the rooms. The dinner was excellent, with very good service, and so was the breakfast. We ate some kind of fresh bread with pumpkin seeds that was my favorite bread on the trip.

By the time we left, this place had won me over and I have to give it a good review. Also, I should say that some places we stayed right in the center of town ended up being noisy, and difficult to sleep, while the Tulip Inn was quiet and pleasant to sleep.

Franeker in general is not a super lively town, and if you are looking for a little more happening place, I might advise to stay in Harlingen instead (though I didn't actually stay there to know if its better - it did seem like it). The Planetarium in Franeker is definitely worth seeing.

It's basic and that's OK. Restaurant is only open until 20:30 and the breakfast is good and basic. Room I had was with the basic features, shower and toilet in plain white tiles. Room was a good size and the parking in front of the hotel is no problem.

Yes, nice hotel, what you would expect from a hotel chain, bit dated and a nuisence the reception on first floor then having to carry cases back down but yes thats a bit picky! Comfortable and we too were surprised at the quality of the food in the restaurant, tasty and plentiful, friendly and helpful staff.

Stayed in this Hotel in September 2012.
The room and ensuite were very clean. The bed was very comfortable. There was a welcome Tea/ Coffee tray with plenty of tea and coffee. Front desk staff were friendly and helpful.
We had Breakfast two mornings and lunch one day. The food was excellent and the dining room staff were brilliant. Everyone spoke english so there was no problem communicating.
The Hotel is in a nice quiet area and is easily accessible. It is not too far from the centre of town.
I would certainly stay here again should I come back to Franeker.

An excellent, accessible hotel, well placed for visiting Franeker whose centre, with its wonderful 18th century planetarium, is about ten minutes' walk away. Also ideally placed for visiting by car the nearby towns of Leeuwarden and Harlingen. The room was comfortable and well appointed and the breakfast was excellent, offering probably the best croissants ever tasted! The special offer room rate was a real bargain. The staff were helpful and friendly. An enjoyable stay.

The hotel was just average, typical for a small town, the front desk staff doubled in the restaurant as the front desk was basically in the restaurant. The room was clean, no real issues there. The whole hotel was a bit run down, but for the money it was ok. What amazed us was the food, we ordered room service and were suprised to receive food similar to that found in a 5 star hotel. The presentation and taste of the food we ordered was top notch! I took our plates back down the the restaurant to give my thanks to the chef for an amazing job, but he had left for the evening. We stayed at this hotel because we were leaving on the ferry to Vlieland in the morning, and it was only a few miles away. If your'e not picky, this hotel will suffice, the food made the whole thing well worth it.
