“Eise Eisinga's Planetarium”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 25, 2013

Franeker (Frjentsjer in Frisian) is one of the most interesting towns of the beautiful Dutch province of Fryslân. It is an old town with many historic buildings of interest to tourists. One of the most intriguing buildings is Eise Eisinga's Planetarium which is nominated to be included in the world heritage list of Unesco. It is the oldest planetarium in the world which still functions. It contains a model of our solar system built in the 18th century by the self-taught scientist Eise Eisinga in his own living room.

“A journey in time and space”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 30, 2013

Very informative museum about astronomy and the historical background of the planetarium, which was built in the 18th century and still works. The 30 minute video (available in Dutch, English and German) about the creator of the planetarium is worth watching, I think.

“This Planetarium is a must see”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 23, 2013

If you are in the area, it would be a huge shame to miss the Planetarium. Its very interesting and impressive. The museum closes at 5 and opens at 10, but it is worth waiting for.

“Lovely”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 14, 2013

My wife and I visited the site. it was my second visit, I visited the site some 40 years ago and it impressed me as a kid. And now it was a impressive as it was 40 years ago. The acutal planetarium is in a small room but they have added many rooms with a lot of info on planets, stars and astronomy. The guided tour (well, the talk in the room) was nice and well done.

“Fabulous Instructive Museum”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 1, 2013

This museum is worth your trip to Franeker, where Eise Eisinga in de 18th century constructed on his own initiative and with his own hands and knowledge a planetarium to show the world that a big meteor wouldn't collide with Earth. It took him all most 7 years to built in his own house that now is the museum, attracting over 46.000 visitors every year. Really a must to visit and highly recommended.
