“Nice Hotel In A Peaceful Setting”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed October 21, 2012

This hotel provided us with a three night package of bed, breakfast and table d'hote dinner. The room was a bit small but the bed was very comfortable. Breakfast was varied and good but the evening meal was only average. Having said this, they were working down to a price and we did have the option of eating a a carte in the attractive looking restaurant at the hotel. The location is opposite a school but is very quiet and peaceful most of the time and it's a great base for exploring the area, including the town of Valkenburg, which is magical in December. In the evenings there is a small bar and it's possible to walk into the neighbouring village where there is a handful of locals' pubs which are interesting and very welcoming. If you go in the winter it's best to remember that this corner of the Netherlands gets very cold.

Booked one night and came a bit anxious because of all the bad reviews. But we were not disappointed. The check was quick and efficient. We got a nice room with a big bathroom. The double bed slept perfect.
The hotel was indeed outdated and needed a renovation, but it was clean in our room.
We only had breakfast and that was very good and lots of choice between everything.
As we were touring in the area we did not stay many hours in the hotel.
Overall we were satisfied.

We stayed in de geulvallei which supposed to be a three star hotel. The rooms are very small, the beds old andmuch too soft, the curtains need to be washed and the bathroom is a joke. The whole bathroom is from plastic and it feels you are in a dixie. The plastic is yellow from the old age. Carpets are worn, it smells and the food is terrible. if you can avoid please do!

When is a doubbelbed, doubbelbed? Well ours was only 120cm wide so sleep was rather light. Everything was just awful, the smell, the dust, noisy housekeeping at 7 am, stains on the carpet everywhere (did somebody feel bad from the food?) I even saw housekeeping washing the bathroomfloor with the towel I had just used to dry my face! Really, what a sad thing, because the location is sweet and charming but I highly recommand to sleep in a car rather than checking in here.

we stayed 4 nights with national holidays here in early december 2010 and were met with a smelly hotel corridor and an equally smelly bathroom. we and other guests complained every day about the stale water smell in our part of the hotel (1st floor rooms 102 to 106) but apart from saying it was a leaking pipe and sprinkling soda crystals down the shower, the hotel did nothing. the food was dull, apart from buffet breakfast and i paid almost 20eur for a bottle of the cheapest spanish plonk ever tasted, but only once.it's described as the fletcher hotel and restaurant but if you are with a tour you only eat in the breakfast room not the restaurant. there was no atmosphere in the hotel bar and no locals used it . the hotel is situated right at the end of the village and it's a walk to find another bar. not a place i will return to, it's very basic but pretends to be something better.

Although room and bedding were clean, the room was VERY small, service from staff was very poor, asked for another pillow, thought I'd asked for the crown jewels the length of time it "begrudgingly" took. Dinner was 6.30 - 8pm and believe me that was the length of time it took to be served the 3 courses which weren't very appetising any of the nights, in fact we went back to our room and "raided our snacks" because we were still hungry, 1st course soup was served about 7pm even though we were seated at 6.30pm, 2nd course was about 7.30 and 3rd course at 8pm, the staff (obviously under orders), were more concerned about going round the dining area asking if anyone needed a drink, then getting it, rather than dishing out the food, drinks were marked onto a card to be paid for at the end of the stay and none of the staff seemed to know how much the drinks actually cost, also asked one night what the meal was going to be as the previous night someone didn't like fish which is what was being served, (they got a basket of bread instead) and no-one seemed to know, in fact whatever was asked of the staff the answer was that they didnt know, someone in our group tried to pay their bar bill on the night before we left as we were leaving early the following morning and they were initially told that they couldn't because there was no-one there authorised to take money, why employ staff if you can't trust them, also some people in the group "lost" items from there rooms.
