“Old fashioned and in need of a facelift.”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed May 30, 2013

Booked a budget smaller room for one night. Place looked run down....pots needing planting, dark dingy bar and restuarants, soulless. Room pretty awful tiny yes but no tea or coffee facilities, tiny shower and the worst thin rags for towels ever seen in a hotel which at €92 was NOT cheap or budget priced. Had to ask for extra pillows and a hair dryer.....was followed to room for a ten euro deposit first! Location was superb right in heart of lovely town with own car park which had to be paid for. This place is crying out for a makeover. Breakfast was ok but some fruit would haves been nice... But why oh why did every table have a small grey and black plastic mini swing top bin adorning it. This was a dreadful site in the room. We were also told to sit at our room numbered table....why? We did not eat there in the evening...it was empty and again so uninviting. Lots of choice within walking distance.

Upon arrival at the hotel, we went down to evening meal, which was a set meal. After informing the waitress that 2 of our party were vegetarians she then produced an alternative for us, which was delicious. For the next 3 days, we were served excellent food. The hotel was very clean, and the staff were very helpful when asked for information about the town. Would certainly book this hotel again if in the area.

Unfortunately our first impressions upon arrival were clouded by the fact that we were almost two hours later than expected and the frosty face of who we took to be one of the owners did not bode well. However, after leaving our luggage in our room to be sorted out later we went down to dinner. We were part of a coach tour and we took our places after being directed by staff and told that we would keep the same places for all meals.
The set menu contained four courses, excluding coffee, and was very plentiful and of a good quality. The continental breakfast contained plenty of choice to satisfy everybody and on our first morning the staff were friendly, efficient and accommodating..
Our room, twin beds pushed together, was comfortable, clean, quiet and generally OK but there was only a bath with a hand held shower attachment and no curtain so showering was awkward. The towels were changed every day.
In all, the hotel facilities were only adequate but it was the quality and quantity of the food that dragged our rating up to 3 stars.
If we were to travel independently to Valkenburg in the future it is likely that we would look for accommodation with better facilities.

Room Tip: If you have a choice of room pick the biggest and best you can afford , although as a relatively sma...

As South Africans living in the Netherlands, we try to visit as many places as possible. We found the hotel on the internet after searching for accommodation in Valkenburg for a while as it is a highly visited place. We stayed at the hotel for a weekend. Check-in was quick, but a bit unfriendly. The hotel is not one of the most equip and modern hotels we have stayed in, but there is lots to see and do in and around Valkenburg, that it didn't matter. The room was very small, but clean. The bathroom is even smaller and very compact. The bathroom had a bit of a smell at all times, I would imagine it was the drain. On the plus side, the breakfast was nice, basic, but nice. Some of the staff were very helpful and friendly. The hotel is centrally located to all the restaurants and some of the attractions. Overall not bad, but I don't think we'll stay there again.

Upon arrival at our Hotel, it was immediately obvious that this was not the Upgraded Hotel that we had paid for and expected. Everywhere was clean,. The towels were changed everyday, and beds made etc. When we booked we asked for a twin room, which I suppose is what we got, but it was very compact and the twin beds were pushed together with no space at either side to spread them out. As I was travelling with another female family friend, we just accepted the situation, but its not ideal. The bathroom was very small and reeked constantly from the drains, fortunately we didn't spend much time in our room. No hair dryer, no tea and coffee making facilities, which in this day and age, we have come to expect them.
On a brighter note, the meals consisted of a 4 course set meal, which was always hot and plentiful, and the staff always seemed pleasant.
With regard to the lady owner, I think she would benefit greatly from a course in Customer Service, and public relations. We had a problem in our room,my friend accidentally spilled a drink over herself and some of it went onto the bed sheet. We apologized and asked for the sheet to be changed, she proceeded to be quite nasty with my friend, and upset her greatly. Accidents do happen and surely she should know this, I feel maybe this person is in the wrong job, and should I ever be in Valkenburg again, it most certainly would not be at this Hotel. Our much needed break was almost spoiled by this incident.
