“Restaurant looks nice but serves very mediocre dishes”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed March 31, 2013 via mobile

Castillo is quite large and has a very pleasant interior. Service is good and friendly. Restautant was packed which usually is a good sign. However, for the positive notes, that is about it.... The red house wine is very low quality and served tapid and it didn't get better after that. We probably should haved limited ourselves to golden oldies like burritos, tacos or tortillas but we didn't and ordered two mexican dished that you don't come across that often: swordfish , and stew topped with cheese melt. The stew-with-cheese was really only no more than that and after a couple of bites there's really nothing more to discover and, although not bad, the dish becomes quite dull. The swordfish can only be described as uneatable: two triangle shaped fishpatties tasting like they come straight from the freezer of a cheap supermarket. Leathery, tasteless fish meat floating in an acceptable sauce of tomato, courgette and other veggies. Coffee was good though, but that is not enough to save the meal.

“Focus is on quantity, not quality.”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed March 10, 2013 via mobile

The decorations inside look nice and the service was just ok. We ordered a plate for 2 with loads of different dishes. But, all of the dishes had more or less the same taste, which was a pretty average one. It all felt more like a Mexican fast food experience and I would rather have spent my money somewhere else.

“Very nice location!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 6, 2013

You enter a different world when you come to this place. The warm Mexican atmosphere here is fantastic. The service was fast and friendly.. even while it was very busy at this place! Usually I am not a fan of buffet but I took a look at it and decided to give it another chance.. I was not dissapointed! Great mix of flavors and a lot of variety!!

Well done el Castillo!

“Self service with quality food”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed December 23, 2012

During our stay in Valkenburg we had diner at restaurant Castillo. We reserved in advance, but didn't realise that was in buffet form (you can order a few things from the card). The buffet had a lot things to choose from. Aswell the starters, as the main, as the desserts were in big portions available to pick from and always hot and fresh. It tasted very good. The plates got changed all the time, so you didn't had a dirty plate on your table. It's in the main street of Valkenburg, so a good loaction as well. The staff was very nice.

“Loads of good food for a small price.”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed September 15, 2011 via mobile

Most of the restaurants in this neighborhood were the same, except this one. The overall theme here is, of course, Mexican, but perhaps a little bit cheap.
This being said; the service was good. They were friendly, fast and would give you more side dishes if needed (at no extra charge).
We ordered a plate for 2, for around 36 euro and it was awesome. Loads of variation, enough side dishes and waaay to much food (which is good).

Also loads of Mexican beers.
